what I love about this, is that none of them try to out perform the other. Lets face it the best 3 voices of an era and all perfectly content to let the other one shine!!! sheer poetry in music. my personal fav is Mary. but all 3 amazing
Me too Love them all But Mary T wow I saw her and Peter and Paul from their beginning. She was so hip with having to try to be and her contralto and a male tenor too
All three of them have very distinct, crystal clear, beautiful, pleasant voices and they harmonize amazingly well. No trying to sing over each other, just these 3 amazingly talented ladies combining their talents beautifully.
She sure does! and whereas i put it on as to join in the singing, she had me sobbing throughout the entire song! just like the one she does with John Denver! "Leaving on a jet plane"! and don't think i could sing a single note there either! too many tears and spirit groaning within and outside! wow! that was a trip and a half! :-)
I saw this when it was first broadcast. Had been anticipating Cass’ first TV special. This was 1969 and I was only 15 years old. I had first heard of the M&P from my older brother when I was only 12 years old. His record collections had a big impression on me. He had them all, the Beatles, Peter, Paul and Mary, Jefferson Airplane, Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Aretha, Laura Nyro, etc. I came to love rock & roll through him. I especially became fond of the M&P and collected all their music religiously. I loved their harmonies and thought Cass was awesome. I followed her career thru the years and was heart broken when she passed away much to soon. Since then have followed all these artist and grieved when they passed as well. I had not seen this since actually getting a recording of Cass’ first special Now I have her second special too. I am now a nearly 68 yr old granddaddy and am so very thankful that we have something like You Tube to revisit these amazing moments in music history. To all who put these various artist’s performances out here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
I, too, am grateful these wonderful singers and songs are on here. Almost 65. I was little when the folk music scene was big, but as I grew up, I fell in love with these great songs I am hearing again. Love it. Love the harmony!
American Queens! Thank you, this brings my heart home again - I miss this feeling in the US where we were all a community, a Nation united. We had our differences, we protested, voted, and lived useful, hopeful lives. I miss the love...it's all men with mindless hate and endless pockets, telling us what they're going to do to us. God bless everyone - I wish all the old hippies would run for office - we need this love back, I miss my country. xx
Had Mama been lived to this day, she would have been as equally big as Cher, Aretha Franklin (RIP), Dolly Parton, Patti Labelle or Diana Ross. Gone way too soon...
She's bigger than them all, hun. She was a good soul with an incredible voice and all the time in the world for her fans. A rare gem especially in modern 'diva' terms.
I didn't know this existed- actually have tears in my eyes (and really not sure why) perhaps I missed these voices more than I realised. Thank you so much for posting it!
I think it could also be the nostalgia for this era and the simple beauty of this performance. Live, no autotune, no flash, just sitting there singing.
Yeah, a total masterpiece, every song a gem! I remember when it came out, I was trying to be a tough guy teenager and was not visibly impressed when a girlfriend played it for me. Of course, on later listenings I started tearing up😃
.....are you THE Rick Nowels...who produced and co-wrote with many...including Stevie Nicks? If so, I'm among a batch of Stevie fans who ADORE her 4th album, THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR. thanks.
I would sit in the foyer of my Grandmothers house listening to this on an 8 track. She would play it on her big component stereo and it would echo down the hallway! God what great memories!!!!!! LOVE TO ALL READING THIS!

3 totally unique voices in perfect harmony! Including the beautiful Mary Travers, I really miss her" (As a teenager when my peers were "into" Beatles, Rolling Stones, Leonard "lets keep the party going" Cohen, et al, I was collecting Peter Paul and Mary LPs, and trying to learn Paul Stookey's guitar skills. No regrets,.... They sang beautiful harmonies and unlike today's "music" you could understand every word of every song! Those were beautiful times the 60s!
Yea! sure it is so hard to understand Adele, perhaps your hearing is not as good as when you were young. You have developed what they laughingly call ,old ears, All the music of your youth was wonderful, now you hate everything ,yet no generation has a lock on talent Somewhere 20 years from now an older couple will hear a song by Justin Timberlake caress his wife's cheek and say ,that's are song babe they don't write them like that anymore ,lol
Eddie Black, I think that you're mistaken. He said that his peers were into the rock bands of the day and he wasn't. So,' his message isn't that all of the music then was great, he's talking about folk music. The folk music of the 60's had a huge impact on the culture and politics of the day, still is pretty relevant now. I agree that there are many young artists and groups that write and play incredibly good music. But so many are electronically enhanced that they are devoid of any meaning. It's about the genre not the time period.
I love the beautiful harmony! I grew up in the 1960's & 1970's, & as a singer myself, these three women, along with Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Ann Wilson, Janis Joplin, Donna Summer, & Pat Benatar, were my idols. If I were only half as talented as they, I'd be happy.
This made my early morning. These are 3 great singers each in their own right but this was pure magic to listen to. Mamma Cass and Mary Travers are no longer alive though. Thanks for posting this. The days of real music.
Talented women just singing together showcasing their beautiful voices..and not competing for who's sexiest or who can show more of their ass like the artists now do. This is talent, confidence and class.
Absolutely stunning stuff, and a complete joy to watch and listen to, the epitome of absolute sheer personified talent. So effortless with no gimmicks, just three great voices. Todays generation is being found to be sadly lacking. ❤️
The best music that ever existed most certainly came out in the 1960s, hands down. When, but in the 60s, did you ever find a sacred hymn in the top 10 on the billboard? That was Judy Collins' Amazing Grace sung with voices only - NO instruments at all. These three angels combined their awesome voices and gave fierce competition to the angels without even trying. I miss those days still.
This is so crazy! The great Mary Travers, the even bigger Mama Cass AND Joni Mitchell together! What a heavenly band this will be, when on someday the last of the three ladies left with us, Joni Mitchell, will cross Jerdan too. What a pitty that Mama Cass and "Mary" have gone so early!

Can't choose.
And you can tell they really enjoyed it.
sheer, not shear (sheep get sheared)
This is STUNNING. If only the beautiful Mama Cass had been able to live longer.
A great talent, unfortunately she was the architect of her own fate.
@@davitofarito Very harsh statement. Not nearly such an architect as Jim Morrison or Jimi Hendrix, just to name two.

Mary Travers not only sang like an angel, but she was also a stunningly beautiful woman.
She was. However, I have always been totally in love with Joni.
Mary was an underrated performer. She was simply superb
Great legs.
I met Mary Travers in 1967 back stage at A Peace Rally. Such a hip Groovy Woman
