- Xinjiang cuisine is some of my favorite! In this video I tried some classic including the famous BIG plate of Chicken and hand made chinese noodles. I had the Xinjiang dishes at Eden Silk Road restaurant in Fremont in the Bay area.

HI!!!! Thanks for watching the video :-) Lot of comments about this place being expensive, I think it's not bad for the quantity of food they give you. I definitely think my fav dish there the big plate of chicken is super tasty and the large portion could feed 3 people and extra noodles are only a dollar or 2. You can'g go wrong with any noodle dish there so maybe skip the salad :-) Also like I mentioned in the video, I've never been to Xinjiang, I don't claim to know what authentic Xinjiang food tastes like. I just know the food tastes pretty good to me and that the workers and cook there are all from Xinjiang and they told me they are cooking the way they did back home. Hopefully one day I can visit and be blown away by the local cuisines, but to my Unxinjiang trained taste buds, this place tasted pretty good :-)
Love ya! Mean it!
Strictly Dumpling definitely go to xinjiang someday, and you will be blown away by how good the food is there, I just spent the recent Chinese New Year there and still reminiscing the awesome flavors I've had growing up, never forgotten even though I've been living in the states for 7 years now
Hope to one day soon :-)
Strictly Dumpling may your future be blessed with heavenly food from all corners of the earth 🙏
Strictly Dumpling Hey Mike, man you can make anything look good! I used to live in Spain (Rota) and the food was always fresh and very good! Spaniards love to incorporate garlic in their dishes, and one of my favs, was the garlic chicken! My salivary glands are going crazy just thinking about it. Keep up the great work. You need your own show on the travel channel! God bless.
I've got the same T-shirt! When I saw it, I thought, I don't even care if it fits, I'm buyin' it.
Whoever it is that recommended this place to Mike, thank you. XinJiang food is something that deserve more attention, imo. I haven't had anything from that region that isn't awesome.
I'm uyghur & from Xinjiang ! so happy to see this video from you !

with all the chaos of the internet and youtube, your channel is sanctuary....
Agreed, brother.
Mikey Chen = best at describing food experiences!
Damn! I love this footage! You get the history, the restaurant, the food itself, and the action in the kitchen. This is awesome!!!
I love when the restaurant allowed you to film the food being made! So cool!
You just spent exactly $86.75 on one meal and finished it. You still amaze me every Mikey😂
Another priceless vid from Mike. For all those who are ethnic whatever and say the cuisines he's trying here in the US is a poor substitute for your homeland's cooking, please remember most of us Americans will never get a chance to travel around the world and try everything, so even a "poor substitute" (which is really a subjective judgement, of course) is preferable than none at all. Gastronomically Yours.
Thank you for promoting these out of the way mall restaurants. You boost their clientele, and enable them to employ more staff.
You are the best Mikey!!!! Always makes me hungry when I watch your
Amazing videos
Xinjiang cuisine is awesome....a beautiful fusion of Chinese and Middle Eastern flavors
If you like that type of food, the next thing you should do is go find good Uzbek food and compare/contrast. Same underlying Central Asian cuisine, even same dish names, but then you have one (Uygur) that developed under Chinese influence, and the other (Uzbek) that developed under Russian influence and has a lot of overlays from Russian cuisine. It's really, really fun to put those two side by side and look at it as a case study in how history influences food (and if you're ever in Washington, DC - there's some seriously good Uzbek food hiding in the suburbs).
Adam Brickley I happen to live in an area with 2 Uzbek restaurants and agree the food is similar and delicious.
Yeah, uyghurs and uzbeks are in the same subfamily the language are like you said influenced by russians and chinese, but it's like the same language
just 5mins ago check in disappointment to see there was no new videos and this appear now!!! so happy finished work and chill watching your video
Mikey Chen is the best UA-camr. 💕 I love all your videos.
Pretty expensive i must say.
it's in california
Simon Paulsen those are not California prices, im from Los Angeles and im very surprised 20 dollars for 3 skewers of meat, i can get the same thing for 8-10 dollars
TheDihan8 Expensive by California standards too. Could be cause Uighur food is rare.
Albert Bazinyan in all fairness the quality of this food is probably better than the 8-10 dollar ones.
TheDihan8 those are HUGE portions
Try the one called “Charcoal Kebab House” in Toronto. The owner and cooks are Uighur people. Literally the same taste you will have in Urumqi.
never stop making videos I have watched every one of them your great at grabbing the viewers attention

Hand pulled noodles are so good !! You have to try them, no better noodle on this earth !!
Delicious! Love your channel!
It's so cool to see that you moved to the Bay Area! I loved watching your videos in New York because it felt so different from the atmosphere that Northern California provided. If you are looking for a hole in the wall but fresh Cantonese Seafood Dinner, I recommend Fu Lam Moon in Fremont too :)
I've been subbed for a bit now and I want to tell you that I've tried sooooooooooooooo many cuisines all over the world, but when I went to China and ate "real" Chinese food, I was totally floored, easily the best cuisine I've ever had. What I noticed was that the texture of the ingredients played a huge role in Chinese cuisine.
The highlights from my China were the hotpot and a dish from Szechuan which was covered in fried red chilies but inside there was chicken pieces. I also had this shrimp which looked raw but was fully cooked. Supposedly a technique for cooking.
Anyway, the Xinjiang cuisine looks amazing and I realllllllllllllly want some RIGHT NOW! :)
Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to add was that the noodles. Oh my God, don't even get me started on the Noodles. Absolutely divine!
Yup! I am biased but Chinese food is my favorite :-)
For those wondering, Originally the Uyghur first settle their kingdom in present day Mongolia before migrating to Xinjiang and Gansu. The Uyghur in Xinjiang settle in the Tarim Basim and interbreed with an Indo-European/Aryan (possibly an ancient Iranian tribe) Tocharian which is why most Uyghur in Xinjiang have a wide variety of look with their culture a mixture between Arab/Iranians/Turkic and most Uyghur today live in Kashgar and Hotan while the Han are more situated in Urumqi. The other Uyghur who settle in Gansu became the Yugur which the Han Chinese refer to as the "Yellow Uyghur" The Yugur are believe to have more of the old Uyghur tradition and still follow Buddhism which were the Uyghur old religion before they converted to Islam around the 15th century. The name Urumqi derives from the "Dzungar" Mongol which means "beautiful Pasture" in their language. The Han vs Uyghur conflict is a long and confusing one. I believe most of these conflict is between the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and the CCP. Innocent Uyghur and Han get caught in the conflict between these two. The Chinese officials along with other Central Asian states have list the ETIM as a terrorist group with support from ISIS. Most of the stuff that are reported about Xinjiang comes from Western Media which likes to show the area in a bad light. Xinjiang is actually a beautiful place and the Uyghur people are some of the most hospitable people. Xinjiang isn't a place where conflicts occur everyday, in fact most Uyghur, Han, Hui, Tajik, Kazakh, Xibe are live peacefully among each other in the Autonomous Region. Don't listen to Western Media lies about Xinjiang or Rebiya Kadeer who does not represent all Uyghur people or the ETIM. The same Media that made us think Iraq have Weapon of Mass Destruction. Xinjiang is China's largest producers of natural gas and coals. Listen to Uyhgur Muqam a collection of 12 musical poem and dance that was preserve by Amannisa Khan. The music is actually good.
Love your shirt, Mike!
