- If you walk into a Xi'an Famous Foods, you'll likely hear the rhythm of wide hand-pulled noodles slapping onto the counter. The restaurant's biang biang noodles are the star of its most popular dish, spicy cumin lamb noodles, one of the dishes born out of a father-son dream to share the cuisine of their hometown. The city of Xi'an sits at the eastern end of the Silk Road, where flavors and cuisines of China and the Middle East combine, and today, the cuisine attracts hungry New Yorkers to Xi'an Famous Foods' 10 locations.

Spicy Chili Oil Perfectly Coats Xi'an Famous Foods' Most Popular Dish | Legendary Eats
I visited years ago and the noodles are certainly delicious but I’ll never forget that Jason Wang donated ~$75,000 to the suicide prevention hotline the week Anthony Bourdain died. This family will never forget how Bourdain’s visit jumpstarted their massive success.
Respect definitely will visit when I travel to NYC.
Real recognize real
I thought u meant Jackson Wang lmao
Humility beats everything. I hope for many more years of success for this family. And thank you for that note. Not that you WANTED credit, but who would have known that this family possessed such sincerity even at their level of success? That's some interesting info @tosh t
Def gonna hit this spot, next time im in NY
His dad rockin that cut tho!!!
bro all of my chinese friends who had stylish dads ALL rocked that same cut! and they ALL pulled it off lmao.
Had thought it was his brother at first.
For real 💯

He really went for the peaky blinders cut
This is actually a good 'Food Insider' review. Very professional and humble host and great business with regular people reviews....not like yuppy girls/guys eating everywhere and giving their opinions
I was just about to say that too, the other ones always feel like a highschool project with wanna be "hipsters" , this was def MUCH Much better, it was professional, yet the reviewer was still having fun with it, a perfect balance
Not to mention the "yuppy" vids usually recycles their video shots over & over again
Agree
I totally forgot this was even food insider!
@Taryn Varricchio Take note with our feedback please. We are so tired of the super hipster, squeezing out donut filling, repetitive clips. I like this kind of video. Keep it up!

" I can make it at home just 7 ingredients and chili oil"
- the chili oil has 30 spices
lao gan ma is already amazing, that shit is a drug with dumplings or any type of noodle man
the chilli oil can be simple, just salt, MSG, red chilli power then hot oil pour on it.
@@royisdabest i see another lao gan ma addict. nice

It doesn’t have to be exact just put your own spin on it, you can make some pretty good sauces by using the spices you want
Oh thank God this restaurant hasn't closed yet. I saw some interviews of them at the beginning of lockdown and economic meltdown, they sounded pretty grim back then (they didn't get the early phase of COVID relief). Thankfully they are surviving now and hopefully forever more.
They closed more than half their stores
For the East coast folks, you can order the whole package from them online. They send you the chili oil, cooked lamb, vegetable, and the dough. You can pull the noodle like in the video before cooking it, then mix everything together. It's pretty fun and tasty just like at the restaurant.
I wanna order some 😮

Xi'an Famous Foods is a must-go place for me whenever I visit NYC. The food is absolutely authentic and amazing. It's also beautiful to see everyone from all backgrounds enjoying their food like Xi'an natives.

can’t stand the one that keeps harassing the owner for the secret recipe…she’s unbearable.
As a former New Yorker, I can confirm that their food is really good. We moved out of nyc in 2015. We tried every xi'an noodle restaurant in bay area. Nothing is as authentic as theirs.
I'm pretty sure the only place that will have xi'an noodles that are as good or better is San Gabriel and nearby areas east of LA
@Your Lover I will agree that driving and parking in LA is shit but have you seriously eaten here? San Gabriel has the best Chinese food in North America, hands down
Daaaamn. I knew they were the best in New York but I assumed the Chinese population on the West Coast meant the odds were decent someone in SF could fairly go head to head. But if not there, its best in America, hands down.

@@bananaman5267, well, as the story goes, he did suffer from severe depression for years, largely due to alcohol & drugs, and the final straw was his girlfriend, Asia Argento. She had spoken out about Harvey Weinstein's sexual abuses a week earlier to a reporter, then she was found having sex with the reporter. I guess Anthony had enough of this shit on earth.

+1 for a London branch! Dying to have another bowl of the lamb cumin noodles N1!
There is a lot of craft that goes into this. Making each set of noodles to order for a restaurant takes time and space. You can’t pre-make things in advance. You’ve got to appreciate the dedication to the art.
Hearing those noodles, brought back childhood memories
This video was seriously good. I can't really explain why but could be the way the food looks, the success story and the chemistry between the owners and the interviewer. Definitely looks like a place one should go to when visiting New York!
Living in Queens, NYC is such a treat; having all sorts of ethnic food from the world over.
me: **clicked on the vid for chili oil**
the vid: **dough go slap slap**
Im so glad they are still rocking on! i gotta go back there ASAP for my craving.
Xian’s famous food is the only vivid memory from my NYC trip. Top notch noodles. The best Chinese food I ever had.
I'm from Xi'an!!!! I miss this !
I love that the testimonials came from people of all different ethnicities. It tells me that there's something in this food for everyone
I wanna fly from Suriname to Xi'an Famous Foods just to try the dish. The biang biang noodles is calling me.
It shows the Beauty and the Art of the food before you devour it? Yum BigTime! I perspirate right on the top of my Head while the Host showing when she raised up the Beauty of those Noodles! And Wow for that Home Made Noodles! That's Awesome!
I just tried these this weekend. Its one of the best things I've ever eaten and it was like 9 dollars. That's just crazy!! In midtown manhattan no less.... everyone needs to try this
I thought they were siblings at the beginning of the video
Gorgeous family - I will definitely order the cookbook! ♥️
Their food is AMAZING!
Indeed. On UA-cam, I saw recently some happy people in rural Xi'an foraging casually for special meals wild arugula, wild thyme, etc., and even wild morel mushroom, which would be outrageously expensive in the west, and the ways they prepared and combined these organic food ingredients with, for example, lamb, vegetables, starch, etc. were just so "international" !!! I think Silk Road definitely contributed to the exciting multiculturalism of Xi'an.
Perfect for a day when you feel a little *chili!*
I was about to get the pun gun but this time I'll spare you.
I ate at the East Village location 10 years ago and Jason was taking the orders, still remember how delicious and flavorful the food was, continued success guys.
Looks sooo good!! Great interview and video.

I've had their food from when they just started back in Flushing. Love what they have done and their growth! Its so heart warming to see them being able to almost break barriers and have people from all sorts of backgrounds to come and enjoy their food. They contribute so much to the culture. Keep on representing to the fullest!

I like these people, usually with food videos exploring restaurants the energy is weird and people just seem fake and disingenuous but this father and son duo and the host seem pretty cool. Super clean kitchen and very fresh looking ingredients, food looks great too
tried making the noodles just now, delicious, did it without the slapping no quite as thin, but so easy and delicious.. defiantly going to try that again, develop the art 😄
That dish IS delicious. Got to get it.
That is heaven in a bowl ....wow
I love not only the noodles but also the people. I can feel the positive vibes in this place just by watching the video!
Is it just me or did anyone else think the father was the son for a second because of that fresh 'do? Seriously, pops is stylin' with that haircut.
Man that food looks amazing!
looks incredible
I’m envious, I wish I eat that in my house and I’m Chinese. But sadly, my folks are not huge fan of spices.
In fact, my mother is Cantonese/Southern Chinese. She has this philosophy that food should be ‘pure’ or natural; always lightly flavored and balanced.
For example, rice should stay white and never mixed with any stuff, except fried rice.
As a Chinese who have tried this place, I approve the message in the video.
Have to go where the cooks are Chinese though. Midtown locations not nearly as good as Chinatown one
@@trentbateman agree
Looks delicious, love Northern chinese food. From Malaysia.

Wonderful video. That really, REALLY looks good!! I like the owner (and the father/son team approach). If I'm ever there - I will make it a guaranteed stop. Thanks so much.

In Chinese this is an combination of 油泼面(chili oil noodles) and 孜然羊肉(cumin lamb),combining both dishes is no way traditional but its sooooo good

You know your stuff, that’s the old school og location. It’s wild how big they’ve gotten since then.
@@caglioso yeeeeeeee. Used to go there before Anthony Bourdain went starting around 2006. My dad was always one of those Jonathan Gold type foodies who did heavy amounts of research into the best places in New York and he heard about it through the grapevine. After the Bourdain episode aired we got really excited about it and went there again. Some of my other favorites in that area was that dollar Peking duck shop that I believe was down the street (it’s been closed for a while I think) and this one lamb skewer stall somewhere in flushing that I always forget the name of.
