I think people really want to meet the artist. When I’m doing a 1-day pop-up, l make sure to identify myself when people are looking at my work. It seems to really help sales!
Such a great video!! I’ve finally saved up enough to buy myself a wheel and will have enough soon to hopefully get a little kiln too, and markets are high on my priority list when I’m able to start making again. Will be keeping so much of this in mind!
Another hint is to have a bag the customer takes the item with them that is so cool or unusual that people will stop them and say hey what is in there? I used to make animal jewelry and my bags had air holes I hole-punched into them. Remember also that the bag they take away can be advertising for you.
I started out doing markets and still do a couple per year. Choosing the right market is key! I do art markets where people are there to see and buy art. These are usually juried and harder to get into but much more profitable. I find I do much better at those than craft fairs or locally organized fundraiser type things.
Echoing a lot of the other comments - but this was such a great video! Thank you for taking the time to do these! I especially liked your comment about RB face, can so relate! Can't wait for the next video.
Yay for a successful market! Thanks for breaking down the ACTUAL cost including tax & overhead because its so easy to see over 1000 and think that all goes into your pocket 🥲
OMG, thank you for this video! It's very helpfull!)) Next time I'll got to market I use your advices for sure. I especially like advice about price tags on the bottom of the pieces, that will cause people to touch your pieces before they found out what the price is. And you are soo charming! Please make more videos)
Hi ! Super helpful video 🙏 At first i was using boxes as well, but I found out that luggage was soooo easy ! I have this big luggage that can hold a whole 1 or 2 days market. And it rolls 😇 this is usually the way I tell myself I have enough pieces with me 😂
Good job. I say hello to people and tell them my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe, and to feel free to pick the pieces up. I then let them shop. Tend to sell more this way.
@@MaeCeramics I'm like you. I do it because I like to make stuff, but I have other streams of income. I mostly just put the money back into making more. Fueling my hobby.:)
III don't think you have resting B face I don't you have very kind eyes for sure this conversation is brutal because at the end of the day I have to make something many people want T__T
Watched this multiple times to get pumped for some upcoming markets. Laughed out loud picturing myself yelling "CUPS GET YOUR CUPS HERE" at the crowd. -@mohawkpottery

100%. It’s not all about the finished product - it’s about who made it when looking for handmade pieces.
That part of engaging the customer can really be the difference between a sale or no sale.
I like this style of video. Very interesting to see how the table is styled and managed throughout the day

I’m going to be doing my first market in 2024 and this video is such a fantastic resource! Thank you!!!! 💖

So creative!! I love it. There was someone selling crochet flowers and they had a whole fake florist bar thing set up - was v cool!
Mark is really good at marketing his market

I used to use luggage but I found it a bit too heavy!
Do your teapots go on the stove? I've seen people say you have to use a specific clay?
Love this video, so informative and you made it enjoyable to learn! Yay to selling your work 💥
Such a great video! Definitely checking out this market next year!!! Would love to see your stuff live!
I’ll see you in Feb!
Would be cool to see how much a piece costs to make
(materials, labour etc.
This is really interesting thank you, I haven’t done a market before but I’d like to one day
You should!
Breaking even is a win for me. Any extra sales makes me feel like I accomplished my goal of making money from my craft

Mark runs a market and he’s great at marketing 🥴😏
How do you have time for all that you have going on?! Crazy, my inspiration haha
Honestly I don’t know! I live a chaotic life 😭
TY
Im just curious about the 60 pounds table cost.
Is that the total table cost, or half that was split with your friend?
Total cost - my friend and I were next to each other but both had a table for £60
How much stock did you bring?
I didn’t make a note of it but probably 50-60 items?
Sad when your final profit is 300+😢
The pain is because I don’t pay myself a salary or hourly rate - so the thought of this being the profit of days and days of work is sad!!
