I'm so glad that so many people are deterred to enjoying nature due to the rain. It's usually just a light drizzle. Just put on a rain jacket, it's not a big deal.

    I am not swayed!
I watched your videos before accepting a new job in East Side Seattle, loved what I saw, and of course, right before I move there (next week), I see this video... Oh no, right? But after hearing these points, it made no difference for me. The culture, variety of activities, seafood & cuisine, tax (benefit, considering I spend very little), and yes, even the weather are all reasons I feel like I made the right choice, and I'm still very excited for my move.

Cali transplant, classic, but I love the rain and long cold season. I would never live in Seattle proper but Kirkland/Redmond/Bellevue/Ballard/Bothell/Lake Forest Way/Shoreline are all awesome suburbs IMO. You can be 30-45 mins away from everything in the city (which isn't a ton tbh, Seattle lacks nightlife and real attractions outside of Pike Place) and not be affected by the drugs and crime (which isn't a ton either tbh). I prefer a sleepy city so I enjoy Seattle, I like the transit options as they've always gotten me where I needed to be :) Excited to see how the light-rail expands and improves in the next 10-20 years.

Disagree on the food. We may have variety of food options but doesn’t mean that they are good. I’m not even comparing to LA or NY. Fine dining is the worst.

We moved from Southern California. We love the moderate climate and we love the rain and the gloom. We also love the incredibly great air quality, the biomass, the large number of outdoor activities. I love the casualness people have towards appearance - most people here are not obsessed with their looks, don't feel naked without makeup, are not all using Botox or getting surgeries - people here accept themselves are are comfortable in their own bodies. While the cost of food is higher here (restaurants) we are saving a ton of money not paying for gasoline, and we are saving a ton of time not being in our cars for hours everyday commuting or just going out for the evening.

I lived in Seattle for 15 years then moved to San Francisco 10 years ago. Ain't even close when it comes to food options. Seattle is a food desert compared to SF.

    • @misteriknow2069
      @misteriknow2069 8 місяців тому +2

SF has more options for food…but I’m not sure if it’s necessarily better as a whole. SF ain’t even all that. It’s got good Chinese food & San Jose has slightly better Vietnamese food & the Mexican food is better in the Bay, but that’s about it. Our Seafood is better. Our Teriyaki/Sushi is better. Our Chowder is better. And our coffee is better. You wanna see a food desert? Go to Sacramento or Boise or Yakima 😂

I think you're onto something. The last time I went to the south, I really liked the food at first. But it was definitely saltier than I'm used to. I also started feeling unwell after a few days from the sheer amount of food that was either deep fried or just cooked to death in grease.

I am absolutely miserable here. Moved to Seattle from South Florida two years ago to escape the politics and toxic family. As someone without local roots I have struggled to meet people and build relationships due to the introverted and cold nature of people here. The “Seattle Freeze” is real and terrible and the weather is fickle and tends towards gray, rainy, and bleak. Seatte is the city you move to if you want to be ignored. I am moving out since my exploitative job fired me before I got back from medical leave and there’s no reason to stay in this shithole anymore. Worst place I have ever lived.

Want to move to Seattle? Don't. This place hasn't been the same since the tech bros. relocated here from Silicon Valley during the 2010's, and y'all ruined my hometown, f'ed up housing prices, and destroyed the gay scene on Capitol Hill. Artists and musicians used to have a thriving scene here, that's where grunge came from, but they are all gone now because housing and the cost of living caters to tech bros. making 6-figure salaries.
The "Seattle Freeze" didn't exist until everyone from CA and NY decided to start moving here in the late 80's when Seattle was voted "Most Livable City". Suddenly housing prices skyrocketed and locals started getting priced out, and my school was full of kids from out of state. THAT's what caused the "Freeze"; having people move here hasn't done anything good for this city and the locals are VERY aware of that. You have NO CLUE how many wonderful businesses and funky hangouts have been torn down for ugly apartment housing. This city gets more generic and less interesting every year.
The weather here isn't the same as it used to be either. Our garden zoning got changed from 8b to 9a this year because of climate change. We used to NEVER get weather above 90 and now it happens every summer. Much of the housing here has NO A/C because we used to not need it, and now every time it gets hot people struggle to stay cool. The wildfire thing is very, very recent for this area BTW.
We also have one of the most regressive state tax systems in the country. High sales tax means lower income folks pay a higher percentage of their income in tax, and anything that needs to get done tends to raise property taxes. The fight to tax large corporations like Amazon that have had a massive impact on the region keep getting blocked, so gradually people have been getting priced out of the area so only the wealthy can afford to live here. Anyone working-class that is employed in the area has to live where it's affordable, generally in places south of Seattle that have a long-standing violent crime problem, and commute an hour+ to work.

Lived in the greater Seattle area for two years. Liked everything about it a lot including the rain, but not the extended cold weather. Thus, returned to Northern California. Came to the conclusion, Western Washington is a wonderful place to visit in the summer, but not to live permanently. I shall return!

  • @Rhomagus

4:16 Californians average 90 in a 70. No one is pulled over either. Cops just don't seem to care about the speed limit down there. As a driver by profession it was typical for people to do 5 over in towns, backroads, and residential areas and 10 over on the freeway. I've noticed now it's 10 and 15. There are still quite a few people though that'll do 5 below on the freeway, which can be frustrating due to the variance, making it a bit harder to time lane changes and other maneuvers.

It's been mentioned before, but the "Seattle freeze" and the passive aggressiveness of people. I've spent time in Boston and NH, along in Los Angeles, and my New England accent has come out a LOT more since I've been up here, which has been off and on for a few years now. That said, I can't STAND passive aggressive people and I make it well known, so, I throw on my BAWston accent and my strong assertive behavior let people know that if they TRY being passive aggressive with me, I'll call it out.
Being anything than passive aggressive will make you ZERO friends, but that would require what people think. I know people here say that people from the East Coast are "rude", but in actuality, we're not. We're blunt and forward. We have zero time to deal with bs or mind games.
That said, I'm stuck here for another two years and I hope those two years fly by QUICK!
