Notes about the 'One Song' series:
The idea for the 'One Song' series came about when I was trying to come up with a cool idea for my next EPIC amp comparison with around 30 amps. So I came up with the idea of writing a song in multiple styles that would do a good job of 'testing' the versatility of an amp. It would start clean and end with metal. And I thought it could be interesting to use multiple guitars, one for each section.
Then I realised that it would be cool to release each amp's video individually first and when I'm all done I'll upload a compilation that would essentially be similar to all my other mega comparisons, including all the timecodes etc.
So that's the plan basically! However, I'm also planning on running the song through some modeling platforms to also demo those and see how well they can work with all the material in the song.
I've chosen to NOT use the same IRs for each segment this time because I want to use cab tones that the amps are 'comfortable' with. So don't view this as a direct comparison of the amps per say, but view it as an amp showcase that also allows you to hear how the amps function inside the song or inside the music, of course in comparison to one another in that sense! This will showcase the uniqueness of the amps more, which is more fun imho, plus it allows me to be a little bit more creative when reamping each amp. Plus: some of you guys will say 'they all sound the same' anyway and the different cab sounds will make the amps sound more interesting and unique!
For the metal segment I'll very likely use a boost pedal for most of the amps, just so you metalheads or djentheads can hear how a downtuned baritone with a boost sounds with the amp.
Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy this series and I hope I made the song interesting enough to listen to it a couple times (because I don't expect anyone to watch all 30 or more amp videos lol).

Metalhead here. Could you test TC-100 I might be splashing out on Mesa amp but not sure which of these two to get. This is very convincing video :D Wonder if there is much difference between the two amps.

Excellent Demo! I love the fact that you play through all the modes of the amp, and you just let the tones speak for themselves. Great riffs also, very tasteful and you let all the notes ring out so we can hear all the sustain, etc. Well done Sir.

One thing I've realized in the One Song series, is Amp's really don't change your sound a whole lot. Same for different tubes. Different' speakers, and differen't IR's, huge differences.
Just crazy I spent years, chasing amps, when I should have just been chasing different cabinets/speaker combinations.

The crunch channel on the dual recto (Or should I say Solo Head) is often overlooked imo. Its great for rock and pop punk!

I love this series man, great to hear what tones are available in these great amps. Just bought a triple rectifier solo, after a little time dialing I can definitely agree, its got the goods! It's a very versatile amp and way more than just chug, which is obviously in there and very satisfying. I also own the JVM and 6505 along with some other great amps but man that triple rectifier is a monster!!!

Best rectifier video available. I have a triple Rectifier. Bought this amp as a Jack of All Trades. The Clean channel is the closest to the Lonestar Amp which is probably one of the best Cristal Clear amps out there no longer in production. Few amps nowadays can give you this kind of clean without a “Fenderish” tone. And the Solo/Lead tones are out of this world. I am not sure how I feel about Blues/Country tones for this amp though. The clean channel does it well as a pedal platform also. I am not familiar with modern metal or Prog, but for any metal up to the 2000’s it is a staple.

Sounds great! How do you have the fx loop set up? What position do you have the send or mix control? I have an older triple rec that I just had modded from parralel to series fx loop... Cant understand wy the amp, with loop engaged, has 3 different volume controls (master/channel volume, plus send in fx loop)
Been struggling with this amp for a long time

Are the cleans, clean enough for country and blues? Sounds like it on the video, but sometimes can be hard to tell.

  • @gab.lab.martins

I'm doing a direct comparison using this and the JVM video. The JVM is obliterating the Recto. When you listen to the Recto on its own, it sounds good, but going back & forth with the Marshall, the Mesa sounds both fizzy AND dull at the same time. Which is strange, because just yesterday I did the same thing with the JVM, Recto 25, and Jubilee 25, and the JVM came out last (imo). Do you think there's a major difference in tone between the Dual and the Mini? Or did you change the variables (IR, post EQ, etc)?
In case you didn't notice, I'm considering changing amps.

    • @SonicDriveStudio
      @SonicDriveStudio  3 роки тому +2

Well it all depends on your tastes. I like that Marshall sound with more mids but the scooped and 'fizzy' Recto sound also sounds good to me personally. The Recto 25 is also great but it sounds a little bit more 'compact' and mid-focused. I did change the cabinets this time around as I talk about in my notes.

I'm looking at purchasing a Mesa Dual Rec multi-watt for my first big boy amp to replace my Orange TH30. I'm mostly a basement player, though, and was wondering if this thing is manageable in this environment with my UA OX attenuator when I'm not recording via SPDIF?
    Thanks,

Don't know if this will help 10 months later but yes it's very manageable, just picked up a dual rectifier roadster and it can be very low volume, though as we all know not as satisfying lol.

@@dustinscott5628 Thanks for the response! Funny enough, I was able to get a great deal on a Mesa Dual Rec Multi-Watt a few months ago and was able to find out for myself how great these things are at low volume. Honestly, in my opinion, it's more manageable than my Mark 5:35.
