Just after we finished a character analysis on Shadow in Sonic Prime Season 3, Sega drop an announcement trailer for Sonic X Shadow Generations out of nowhere! Clearly they intend to make 2024 the year of Shadow the Hedgehog and are eager to get us all hyped for Sonic Movie 3, but there is actually a lot to unpack in this 60 second trailer!
Is this Sonic Team's attempt at addressing the meta era and reviving Shadow the Hedgehog to his former glory? Let's discuss!

Here’s hoping the rumors of Hayden Christensen voicing Shadow is true because I like how his career has been getting revived, so it would be befitting if he voiced Shadow during Shadow’s revival.
He could go for a performance more like David Humphrey than Jason Griffith
@@meta13gaming Yeah, Jason Griffith grew on me a lot as Sonic (and even Jet XD ) but I never really liked how he voiced Shadow.
He just sounded a little too similar to Sonic for a character who's in some ways much older and isn't supposed to be a relative.
Hayden is perfect for being the voice of shadow in sonic movie 3!
Yeah, Hayden's a *great choice* to voice the Ultimate Lifeform. He knows how to play a deeply emotionally character struggling with inner darkness. And he sounds similar to David Humphrey so that's a plus. But this is simply a rumor, we'll have to wait and find out soon.

I'm thrilled for Shadow! But I am worried at the same time. I want our black hedgehog to get the respect he deserves and I just want team dark back!
The way Black Doom twists reality around Shadow was indeed the most Inception *and* the most Doctor Strange thing we've ever seen.😂

i didn't see any youtuber talk about this yet but in the shots of shadow kicking the rocket part thingy and in the biolizard bossfight shadow is enveloped in a green aura so it seems that chaos control (the time stop or time slow down ability) is coming back alongside the chaos spear and chaos snap now the only thing missing would be the chaos blast and shadow's moveset would be perfect
Shadow clearly using chaos spear might be enough to prove that at the very least he's not just a reskin of sonic going through different levels. That alone gets me pretty hyped.
I'm just happy you're one of the few people that correctly called it Final CHASE instead of Final Rush like a lot of reactors and commenters did. I get it's not as good or as popular, but still, it's nice to be accurate.

I hope... I just HOPE they bring Mephiles back for this. Even if it's just a cutscene where Black-Doom is trying to mess with Shadow's head. I'd be really happy.
Same, though I'm mixed because whilst this is a perfect opportunity to bring Mephiles back; knowing that Black Doom is the main antagonist of this story would limit Mephiles' impact - and he's a Shadow villain I feel deserves an equal footing to Black Doom.
I just couldn't say where else we could bring him back though :/
@@ApexPredator1000 I don't really think they will ever bring him back as a main villain because it wouldn't make any sense.
First, he got erased from existence entirely (I think Izuka said at some point that some characters like Sonic and Shadow can still recall the events of 06 even tho it never really happened. But i can't remember it exactly now, to be sure), AND he merged with Iblis to become Solaris. So it wouldn't make sense to Mephiles to return. Who would return would be Solaris.
@@SqueakerBunnyI know it won’t happen but here’s an idea I had for Mephiles. Say he does make a return in this game due to the Time Eater’s influence, what if he was able to sense that something isn’t right with time. I mean Solaris had way more control over time than the Time Eater did, and Mephiles being half of Solaris, has time abilities too.
What if Mephiles is able to tell this Shadow isn’t the one he knows from 06, and that at some point in the timeline he’ll cease to exist. So Mephiles tried to find some way BACK into the main timeline, to the present that this Shadow comes from.
When you combine the power of time from both Mephiles and the Time Eater, who knows what can happen. (I know this probably won’t happen but the idea is cool)
@SqueakerBunny yeah just feels like there's still more they could do with him against Shadow. Of course, that would also require them giving him more of his own stories in the future too.
On the how? Well, there was the theory before generations came out that he could return through Time Eater's own messing with time, or that mephiles was the time eater after being lost in time from the events of 06?
There's probably a few ways it could be done believably if they do end up wanting to do so one day.
@@Slimeonian My idea would be to bring Mephiles from an alternative timeline where he won and then got rid of Iblis either because he was of no use for him anymore or because he is too narcissistic to allow himself to be something other than the true Mephiles.
And now he is traveling through realities just with the purpose of destroying them all just like he did with his own.

Think of Shadow’s campaign like how they did for both Sonics, with Classic, Adventure, and Modern. Shadow will probably have levels be before the incident (when Maria was alive), during the incident (Sonic Adventure 2 to Shadow the Hedgehog), and after the incident (Sonic 2006 and Sonic Forces). The first boss would be the Biolizard since sealing it would have required help, Black Doom as the second boss, and Mephiles as the final boss before maybe a new final boss? Maybe Infinite? I don’t know if they will reference his appearance in Sonic Colors DS, since the Mother Wisp got to appear in Team Sonic Racing (Shadow was also there). Maybe a line like how Sonic mentioned “genies in magic books”.
If we're going to see Black Doom, then we gotta see Maria and Dr Gerald! 😮
They're integral to Shadows character development.

Ngl I fucking laughed so much about the goofy ass introduction and then I was blown away by how good it looks?? Like damn they acknowledge his own game, real???
I really hope he has many stages that highlight his backstory, because when they really release it before the 3rd movie...that would be so good and such a smart thing to do, especially for newer/more casual fans!
Also I wish that they also bring Sonic Heroes and the whole theme of him being a possible "fake" that was also a huge thing back in his game. I really pray that the regulations on his writing are gone now, I really really want to see him interacting with his friends and especially Team Dark. Also immense hopium from me but....Mephiles is literally Shadows shadow PLEASE BRING HIM BACK(because my hopes for 06 recognition are kinda low tbh)
They could do so many things with this game, I really hope it will be longer and fleshed out...but man I am just so happy to play as Shadow again! I love Shadow so much and he is such a character-trope defining character for me, it would make me so happy when more people can see his true character!
Let's wait and see but I am definitely hyped!

This Sonic X Shadow Generations game looks absolutely peak and Shadow definitely looks he is going to be Peak again. It’s crazy how they are doing a Shadow game. I think the stages in Shadow generations are going to be Final chase, Racial Highway, Westoplous and I can’t wait for those returning stages. Great video Ace Card Gaming)

What was shown in the trailer ironically is almost exactly what I would've wanted to see in Forces' episode Shadow when Infinite started messing with Shadow's perception. That had been such a wasted opportunity back then

To me shadow has always been a glass 🧅 he’s the guy who acts moody and keeps to himself but it’s his friendship with Maria and to protect the friends he still has that keeps Shadow going simple as that
I wonder if they'll bit and pieces of from each of the story routes from Shadow the Hedgehog, treating them like alternate timelines?
I am going to be honest, I feel conflicted about Sonic X Shadow Generations because even though I love Shadow, I still feel like the Sonic franchise has been riding on nostalgia for far too long and Sonic X Shadow Generations won't do a damn thing to change that. Sonic X Shadow Generations seems like some type of cross-promotional thing related to Shadow's appearance in Sonic 3. Also, Shadow should have stayed dead at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 (just like Sonic Team originally planned) and I say this as a Shadow fan because bringing Shadow back to life after Sonic Adventure 2 cheapened the emotional impact of his sacrifice at the end of Sonic Adventure 2. I love what Shadow was like as a character in his original appearance in Sonic Adventure 2. Shadow was originally just a broken man saddened by the loss of his only friend Maria until he made new friends like Sonic in Shadow's original appearance in Sonic Adventure 2. But then Shadow became an edgy asshole simply for the sake of being an edgy asshole. Shadow became a parody of himself after Sonic Adventure 2. In my opinion, everything Shadow-related after Sonic Adventure 2 is not canon. In my headcanon, Shadow fulfilled the dying wish of his best friend Maria by saving Earth at the cost of his own life and is now reunited with Maria in Heaven.
I wonder if we are gonna see Chaos Shadow as something you can achieve for Shadow.
Sega's treatment of Shadows character post Sonic 06 has left me jaded, but this game could be Sega realizing the mistakes they have done and be an olive branch of redemption where they revisit Shadows past and make his character authentic again instead of treating him as a discount Saiyan saga Vegeta
While I'm happy that Shadow is getting what He deserves and that He's my second favorite Sonic character (with A. Sonic being the first and B. I used to be a Goth Emo back in My High School days) I know Sega is taking past Sonic games like Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations because Sonic Movies 1 and 2 bought in new fans.
Sonic Colors Ultimate - Sonic Movie 1
Sonic Origins/Sonic Origins Plus - Sonic Movie 2
Sonic X Shadow Generations - Sonic Movie 3
and I feel that this is goodish even though Sonic Colors Ultimate is Sonic the Hedgehog: Genesis 2.0 and Sonic Origins/Sonic Origins Plus is alright who knows how Sonic X Shadow Generations will come out, who knows Sonic Movie 4 will see Sonic Unleashed and Knuckles or Sonic Unleashed World Wide (with Knuckles and Shadow playable) and Sonic Movie 5 might see Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Adventure 2 get the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth treatment if Chaos is in Sonic Movie 5.
I put high hopes in the gameplay, it looks fantastic. I can't say why, but I really say Frontiers standard! I'm highly anxious about the story. By adding new "things" to his past, I hope they aren't screwing up his already confusing Story even further, and sadly I have low hope to ever see a grounded, non-vegeta-like Shadow ever again...
Me too, rewatching the end of SA 2 and Sonic Heroes, Shadow seemed to follow a way different path, I still can't understand how we got there.
Me, in typical me fashion, I somehow managed to miss every single leak about Sonic times Shadow Generations until after it was announced.
But, y'know I'm gonna count that as a skill
My current theory about why "Black Doom but no Black Arms" is that given recent additions to the series lore, Devil Doom may have know of a way to survive his defeat at the end of Shadow's game, but his army was still destroyed ;)
Think the main point against remixing content from '06 is that Black Doom seems to be driving this new story and there are several very sticky reasons why he shouldn't know about that game's events. I mean, he was already quite dead by the time it never happened. XD
But I hope they find a way to justify it anyway.

It has been confirmed that Black Doom is actually the main villain of the Shadow campaign. Which is also confirmed seperate from the Sonic Generations remaster. (Makes sense given the different graphics and Shadow clearly having more abilities than Modern Sonic) They are definetly hiding a lot of both this seperate game practically (which i wouldnt be surprised if it's called Shadow Generations) as well as the remaster. Why else mention slightly updated graphics and further bonus content if it were just a 1:1 port? They could have easily shown the other levels briefly. All were revealed before release with the original. Something tells me theres some things in both that werent ready to show yet. And they did emphasize to look out for more.
I think the Shadow the Hedgehog game is more part of the mainline
Another fun Shadow video. I too am curious about what we will get, especially with what SEGA will give the fandom with Shadow. As for his characterization, well, who knows if we will get the Shadow we want. Trying to portray Shadow the way he was outside of his 2005 game is kinda tricky, especially with how particular Iizuka's team appears to be about his character. And we need to remember, he's Sonic's polar opposite and not just an equal. And its very annoying when detractors assume we want Shadow to be an alternative to Sonic.

I can’t help but wonder if Jason Griffith will reprise his Tom as Shadow in this remake? I’ve no qualms with Shadow’s current voice actor. But there was a certain, dark subtly Jason had that emphasized Shadow’s introverted nature after the Ark. Shadow’s voice had that edge to it, dark and deep, to where you weren’t sure if he would go into an anger-fueled fury, or be cold and callous as he destroys his opposition. Jason seemed to accurately strike that balance. Shadow’s trauma made him more reserved and introverted, as he likely resists opening up or letting his guard down, since that’s the type of thing that cost Maria her life. Jason’s Shadow had just enough inflection in his delivery, to where you could just hear, that emotion and humanity under Shadow’s dismissive seriousness.
I love how this game is at the same time a sequel to Generations and Shadow the Hedgehog (and I personally think that game is awful).
So excited for this, my only concern of this game is that this seems like another solo Shadow game, and I don't want that, I want him to interact with Sonic and the others like in TMOSH.

Yeah, I had that story synopsis from the steam page in the video. It does say Black Doom is back, but I’d doubt they’d spoil whether or not it’s the real Black Doom in the story synopsis. It could well be the real one, I’m just open to it being a fake as well.

I am expecting Sega to lock the Shadow portion of the game behind either the $70 special edition or behind $20 DLC. Sega's a big corporation, they usually take any chance they can to nickel and dime us.
On one hand, Shadow has moved on from the past twice now.
On the other hand hes been character assassinated for 10 years and a definitive return to form is deeply needed. As long as its the corect Shadow. Not Mandate Nightmare Faker "cowards run, i fight" dumb dumb Shadow with no friends.
Making Shadow's game is easy - just remove the mandates and let Ian Flynn cook

I am both excited and nervous about Shadow's "return."
Whether it's the third live action movie or this game, we could get the best written and best portrayed version of Shadow that we've had in years, but ultimately that won't stop haters, detractors and overly critical critics from making their "hilarious" UA-cam videos saying crap like "Shadow the Hedgehog? More like Shadow the.... EDGE-HOG! HA GET IT? COS HE'S EDGY! EDGY THE HEDGEY! God I'm so funny and original! It took me all night to come up with that joke! Yeah, Shadow sucks! And you Emo Edge-Lords who listen to Linkin Park need to just accept what a terrible character he is! Shadow was NEVER GOOD!"
And because we know that Sega have a tendency to listen to the most negative of feedback and ultimately always learn the wrong lessons, there's every chance that history will repeat itself. "Well, the fans hate Shadow again! Back to the sidelines he goes! And everyone is making jokes about him; well we can do that too! Yeah, he's a total Edge-Lord! See fans, we hate him as much as you do! Here, have more Classic Sonic and Green Hill! See, we get you! We're on the same level! So you love us again, right! Please buy our games again!"
Tbh, when I saw the leaks, all the way till now, I’m not really excited for this. And I’m not exactly sure why.
I still want to play it, and it looks interesting.
Maybe it has something to do with me not caring about how they write Shadow.
Not helping that all of my interest in the Blue Blur is mostly in Archie right now.

The most I’ve been excited was Fang coming back in Superstars.
The failure of Colors ultimate has nothing to do with it being broken. The truth is nobody cares about Sonic Colors because the game is cringe. Shadow stuff is selling because the content is cool and interesting.
While I agree completely that Colours is an awful game, many people seem to enjoy the original so I don’t just dismiss it out of hand. Ultimate being broken gave people a reason to be nervous about a Gen’s remaster.
