NOCO Genius 1: Why you need this cheap battery charger

- After I did my video telling viewers how to trick common battery chargers into charging very dead batteries, I stumbled on this little buy from NOCO.
NOCO claims that, unlike other chargers, theirs will charge car batteries discharged all the way down to below 1 volt! Let's test it!
I'm also going to talk about why hot rodders may want this little charger in their garage. Specifically, those of us who have aftermarket fuel injection systems, like the Holley Sniper, Terminator, FI Tech, or Edelbrock Pro Flo.
Link to my other car battery video. This is still helpful if you don't have one of these NOCO Chargers

Keep going! Love the video.
Thank you! The UA-cam algorithm is a fickle mistress so I have my ups and downs, but I’m having fun and have some big plans coming this year.
Thanks

good info, thanks
Absolutely!
Great video. I love that Jeep in the background.
Ill sell it to you cheap. That this is terrifying.

I thought the genius 1 had a repair mode. It says, Restore your battery - An advanced battery repair mode uses slow pulse reconditioner technology to detect battery sulfation and acid stratification to restore lost battery performance for stronger engine starts and extended battery life.
It might have something passive, but only the 5 and 10 have the selectable repair modes. I did a test on the repair mode in the 5 in another video, it does something but its not a miracle worker.
The benefits of a low power charger is you can use a UPS to power the charger while you are out and about, 15w 1Amp is nothing for UPS's, but it may just be the difference between stranded somewhere or not. I always bring a Craftsman 20v Battery 150w AC Inverter with me to power additional 12v fog lights (with an AC-DC 12v power supply of course), so i may just keep the charger in the truck for just in case moments.
Excellent point.
@@CatfishMotorsports Just an update regarding this, yeah i'm glad i got that charger. I can just use the craftsman V20 battery/150W inverter and place it in the engine bay along with the charger when i get home to maintain the battery and it works great (instead of using a long extension cord). The reason why i do this is because i have a sound system with a 500w Amp and two 12's that tend to drain the battery (headlight dimming during bass hits) etc, so this helps me make sure my battery is never an issue.
You should look into the noco 2d $40 and direct mount to the car to plug in every time you park. I have a 2016 battery that’s been running strong in my 73 Lincoln mark IV because of the noco.
I’ll do that. I legit just killed the battery in my wagon (my fault. I left the key on) but that might have saved it.
I’m going to buy a NOCO 5 too. I want to test that repair feature.
Good info. For 30 bucks, I might have to try this for my ole junk.
I kinda want to kill a battery on purpose just to try to Force mode, but batteries are too expensive for me to tempt fate that much.
@@CatfishMotorsports I've got a couple laying around...... wanna take a trip to central Florida?
@Archersgarageandwhatnot I’m actually from the 813. So that will almost certainly happen eventually. My mom has already been complaining that I haven’t been back recently.
@@CatfishMotorsports nice! When you decide to take a trip, let me know. I'm on the west side of Orlando. I'll take you by the shop so you can see the Star Chief.
Have you tried the reconditioning function of the charger?
I got an old car with “dead” battery. I connected the battery to a C-Tek charger to recondition. The battery functions as new now.
This one doesn’t have that function, only the larger NOCO chargers do. I haven’t got around to buying one but that’s good to know!
@@CatfishMotorsportsAfter I watched your video, I found this video showing the forced mode charging a dead battery: ua-cam.com/video/m1lh1LubUXQ/v-deo.htmlsi=SQ7Qsxez5TRwJVPY
C-Tek makes a better one but thanks for your review.
I can’t compare, but I have one of those little NOCO jumpstarters too that I’ve been very happy with. I always take it with me when I go on a long trip in one of my old cars.
I’m be had mine hooked up for 4 days now. Still pulsing red
Is the battery good? I’ve used mine to charge the batteries in three different cars and it’s gotten to green in all of them. The only one that it acted funny with was that Super Start that I already suspected was bad in some way.
i guessing its good. im not getting any errors@@CatfishMotorsports
wriggle the clamps, I had a bad connection with your result, after that it brought it up in about 2 hrs
If you got a marine battery with threaded studs put the clamps on the lead posts , steel studs are poor conductors it throw charger off , @@5831a
Dead cell
Most likely yeah.
