So here is something I didn't notice. If you go outside Sastasha with the quest "It's definitely Pirates" You will see a group of adventurers that are striking similar to Edda's group. Only the Conjurer is scolding the Tank and the Thaumaturge is saying: "Thank goodness our Tank didn't lose his head!"
You know the funny thing is Edda probably had incredible potential as a healer if only she had received the proper guidance. Her skill in necromancy was quite potent.
I come back to Edda's story every so often when I wind up with Tam-Tara (Hard) in roulette. Funny enough, I also always seem to glean some new bit of information every time as well. This time, I found out that Edda actually appears in 1.0. During which the WoL discourages her from the path she's initially walking down: That of necromancy.
I wish they went back and did side stories like this. I love how creepy it is and all but I think what I liked best was how it really made the world feel alive. For me, it really helped drive home that while we're out there killing primals and eventually going to the Moon, there are just normal adventurers going on in their lives independent from you and you just meet them at certain points in their lives.
@@ProperBird I know im late to this comment section but I'd just like to say it was 100% everyone elses fault, Edda literally was forced into a role she wasnt ready for nor trained for at all, and pushed by all her members (including her very own lover) forcing her to over extend herself and her fiance ran off and Leeroy jenkins'd the whole thing lmfao, its just sad, tragic, and her members are pretty awful for what they did to her.
Liavinne actually was a scion, she died in the attack at the waking sands *minor spoiler* if you start a new game you can find her at the waking sands, you cant tell she is dealing with some personal issues there, at some point she is using a pitchfork as a broom, and an npc looking worried next to her. she has different interactions depending on where u are in msq.

@@El_Legante Problem is diehard newschool Final Fantasy fans are extremely opposed to the idea of a Necromancer job, especially considering how rare and equally revialed they are in the lore of this setting. I mean just look at Summoner, it's even in the game story they had to bend over backwards to be accepted since they summoned manifestations of primals, same for Black Mages and outside Warriors of Light those who practice those magics are simply tollerated. Considering in the series Necromancers only showed up Twice, both times being in obscure Game Boy titles, the support for such is even more hampered.
In retrospect, looking back from shadowbringers, the story bears at least some bit of resemblance to Minfilia's arc- only instead of trying to bring her back, we let her go, and welcomed Ryne into our lives. I think Edda would approve of that.

Let that window licking black mage lick the ground.
Amazing video. Coming back to palace of the dead recently, it got me thinking about Edda and her tragic story since it's been such a long time since I've last heard about it. What a nostalgic journey it was.
I was kept trying to remember who this young lady was later when playing this game because I felt so bad for her when they were blaming her for Avere's death. I am glad I found this video. This is one of the characters that left an impression on me. Thank you
I really love how this whole story just started out as a random bit of background, a way of underlining things for you and setting the stage for how you're needed. But then it just freaking HITS THE BLEEPING FAN! when you come across Paiyo Reiyo in Ul'dah after the base story. ...Should make people stop and think about things a bit. Such as being decent to your associates and the like. Though, just saying, I do find it rather stupid that Edda should be in love with Avere with the way he was talking about her. Yes, she went off the deep end. But still. If he got drunk and was verbally and mentally abusive... Well, love works in messed up ways some times.
Abusive relationships are extremely common. One person giving support to another at a particularly vulnerable time is all you need to cement a lasting abusive relationship. The victim will often fall back to that good moment to excuse everything after; "He wasn't always this way" "He can be good, I know it" "He didn't mean it like that" "I just need to be better to help him". Always chasing after that one good memory. It is also common for the victim to rewrite events to cast the abuser in a better light, in this case Edda interpreting Avere's arrogance and jealousy towards the WoL as admiration. And yeah, this hits close to home. So I had reply with some insight.
Been waiting months for a good telling of this! The game presents the story in such a subtle way at the beginning that many players don’t notice it while they’re speeding through the cutscenes and dialogue. I knew you would do a great job with your narrative and presentation! Edit: How long did it take to capture the ghost Edda sighting? I hear they are fairly rare.
I heard this from an FC mate, but apparently Edda has been in game since the O.G. FF14. Apparently there was a female NPC in a village that if you talk to her is learning magic, but it's hinted that she is dabbling in the "darker" aspect of it. If this npc was in fact Edda, that would mean she had some knowledge of necromancy and picked it back up upon Avere's death.
They do such a good job with side quests. Events that took place at the beginning of your story can still have relevance and deep meaning even after you saved multiple worlds four times over.
Thank you so much for this, I did so much different content in the game all at the same time after I started playing, that I'd forgotten a lot of things that happened from lots of different questlines by the time they continued again, and wasn't able to connect all the threads. I remember seeing those adventurers outside the dungeon when I first got there, but didn't recognize them later in the quests, or even later still when I tried out PotD. While I'd seen the majority of this play out in the game myself, it was so spread out over time that I didn't understand what was happening as it unfolded... so thanks so much for taking the time to put it all together like this! Really love the whole spooky campfire/true crime documentary vibe that you have in the video too!
I did the first half of the story. Now i literally am thinking on reactivating my sub in FFXIV just to do the other half of this quest. Damn! I didn't know that there was more to this!
Got a Disembodied Head Resonator from a moogle event. Friend told me to remember the adventurers over at Gridania who were fighting over a dead member, and then brought me to Tamtara Deepcroft (Hard). Bruh. And then friend thought of helping me level a class I just picked up by going to PoTD. And then I saw the cutscene with the mysterious lurker who appeared to be wearing rebel boots and a dress. Unfortunately didn’t get deep enough in PoTD, but I had no fking idea that the lurker was Edda and PoTD and Tamtara Deepcroft (Hard) were related. The Disembodied Head Resonator makes so much sense now.
I dont know if anybody has noticed this, but if you unlock Sastasha hard, there is a team of NPC outside, where they pretty much flipped the personalities of everybody in that squad; - A Cowardly Tank - An Aggressive Healer It was a very... therapeutic thing to see because I thought Edda's tale ended after the deep dungeon
