When Keith and Mick were feuding in the late 80's ,and Keith formed the Wino's,he was asked if he was worried about performing without Mick.He said no,but he was very afraid of playing without Charlie.
Charlie Watts was never the most flashy drummer. He wasn't known for the frenzied solos of Cream's Ginger Baker, or for placing explosives in his kick drum like The Who's Keith Moon. Instead, he was the subtle, stoic heartbeat of The Rolling Stones for almost 60 years. We all Brazilian fans will miss Charlie. RIP 🇧🇷

charlie´s grooving game is still going strong... interesting to see that he does his typical thing where he doesn´t hit hihat and snare at the same time but when he plays a beat on the right he doesn´t skip the beat
This is the creative process. At this stage, it's not much fun to watch. It only begins to be fun for the musicians (and onlookers) when a song starts to form. And Mick J is a pretty good guitar player, and loves to play, but says his guitar-playing is worse than his singing, so...
It is shocking to hear the difference. While Steve is a top pro, he doesn't have the short delay in the beat that made the Stones so distinctive. But credit to him, and to the Stones, for one last tour. I will be there! And God bless Charlie - the greatest of all rock drummers!
@@Methilde No one ever will replace him. He was unique, and his love of jazz I think is partly what made him special. I'm still thinking of him and very sad he is gone.

Based purely on this clip, I think I have finally realized they are greatest Rock N Roll band ever. I know the Beatles in their time were Masterful. But there is something to be said to see that band, still together, still basically in tact jamming and being.....well.....a BAND.

The best part of watching this (I play the guitar) is Charlie Watts. Watching him drum on that first song (2:06) shows a man who is the master of his domain. Pretty cool stuff. (BTW - another cool drummer to watch is Tom Petty's drummer, Steve Ferrone . The guy has chops)

Some of the best fun with performing arts is had out ofthe public gaze, just mucking around, jamming etc, like this, in old clothes in some shed or garage or back room etc. Watchingdancers doing this type of thing is great, too, intheir raggy old clothes, unwashed, hair a mess, all sweaty... Ballerinas carrying on like this, just warming up, going through the moves, cigarette hangingout of their mouth as they do impossible stretches,splits etc, taking a few munches from a chocolate bar, to keep the energy up... Some even wearing their favourite football team's guernsy andlong sox and shorts... But, despite the appalling attire and greasy dirtyhair, sweatdripping off them, etc, they still look so passionate and sexy, artistically...Ioften saw painters or photographers asking the studio operator for permissionto sketch or photograph them in this very natural state. Theycouldn't understand why visual artists wanted to draw or photograph them like tis, rather than on stage, all polished up, in their fine stage costumes etc.
it's about the band. Individually they are not the best at what they do, but together, despite all their trials, tribulations, and warts, they are the ultimate embodiment of rock n' roll
This is great! I happened to see their setup in Los Angeles, they were cutting tracks for the Emotional Rescue album at RCA. Larger room, so there were slightly larger amps, PA. etc. They were very cool, let us use the bar when they weren't in. Oh yes, I can remember one night the engineer told us that Keith was sleeping on the couch, so the bar was off limits that evening (Keith would sleep when the session was over, so he could start overdubbing as soon as he was ready)!
No such thing as being a musician for one day. Either you're a musician for life or you're not a musician at all. It's a state of mind and part of your soul. Doesn't even matter how good you are at your particular instrument. If it's something you can't live without, you're a musician.
