Heya Pete. I use Distrokid for my music. I recently chose to pull down "80's Joint" and replaced it with what I feel is a far superior remix (as of this writing the track is still pending)... I didn't think to grab the ISRC or UPC numbers tho... 😣 I hope this doesn't complicate things too much... ***EDIT*** The updated “80’s Joint” is now uploaded and there was no issue re: the ISRC or UPC numbers.
What if I have already uploaded the track, but still decide to upload the track again with an instrumental version? Then it becomes an album. Should I still keep the ISRC etc or just see it as a completely new upload?

Hey there. So, generally the single version and album version will be treated differently. You can try using the ISRC of one version when releasing another (as long as it has the exact same file and metadata) and this may align, it no guarantees and it may differ across different platforms. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

I submitted an album to be released through distrokid only to realize right after that I had uploaded and incorrect song file for one of the songs. The album was submitted to streaming services but has not yet been “released”. If I remove the album and resubmit it with the correct files, do I still need to wait the 2-5 days even though it wasn’t released on streaming platforms yet?

What’s happening when you try? You can’t Co mate your artist name once you e already got an active release. You Will need to remove any current released songs and then contact DistroKid to request a name change.

Hey there. Each release is treated separately whether an album, EP or single. So you’ll be fine. Whenever you can avoid removing or changing anything I would recommend it, it if you need to it’s possible.

If a song is on an influencer's Spotify playlist and I remove the release to re-upload a newer version, I wait the appropriate amount of time you suggest, and then follow all your instructions on how to re-release with same UPC and ISRC, will it eventually be accessible again on that playlist or is gone forever from the playlist?

Hey there. It’s always best to avoid removing and re-submitting if you can. However if you remove and then wait a few days, then re-release with the same ISRC code, sometimes it can retain streams.

I deleted a track from my second artist account. Now I want to change a few things like a different drum set and different instruments here and there and upload it on my first artist account. It's basically a new song - but still the same theme. Can I just upload it as a new track or is necessary to ''rerelease'' it ?
There's a chance the platforms will flag this as a "duplicate" track and not allow it, but if you've changed it enough, and especially renamed it, you should be fine. Unfortunately because some artists re-release songs just to try to get them placed on playlists and gain more "hype", the streaming platforms have really cracked down on re-releasing the same song. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Hey there. It’s less about the distributor as it is the platforms. Apple Music and Spotify will often block if you try to release the exact same song multiple times as many artists have been trying to re-release the same song to get in to playlists. Hey there. If you released it with DistroKid then yes you can remove and then re-release it. Make sure you have a good reason for this and really need to change something as many platforms will reject t it and potentially ban future releases if you remove and re-release the exact same album. This is because artists have started removing and re-releasing multiple times to try to get playlist placements.

You cannot edit this release until your name change request has been completed. These requests can take many months for streaming services to receive and process on their end. This is a pure deal breaker.
What if it’s just one song on an album that you want to change the file? Is it l best to do this before the release or after the release? do you have to redo the whole entire album. Hi Pete, I want to release an album with a previously released single on it (which DK says you can do), but I want to change the audio file to something like what you described. Same length, a couple fixes. Would I go about this all the same way as you described? There isn't an option under individual songs asking if they have been previously released, but there is the ISRC box.
Hey Sara. Yes, you can include the song on an album and change it (the audio file) to a new one. I've done that on a few albums where I've included previously released singles, and I haven't tried to use the ISRC codes, though you could do this to see if the plays would link up.

I have the Musician Plus, and the second artist name I didn't want, has been registered on the release. Hey there Victor. The “two artist name” thing is at DistroKid’s end so you may need to contact them to remove the one you have used, once there are definitely no action e releases against it.

Distrokid put an additional name on my band name that I didn't specify. Like I put Kathryn Allyn, and it came out on ITunes as Kathryn Allyn & Mike Lunoe. Amazon got it right. I don't know why, and I can't figure out how to fix it. Can you help?

What for You copy the codes before you delete a song? What are You doing with those codes?
ISRC codes can help sync previous playlists and play counts if you ever choose to remove and re-release.

It will usually keep them but no guarantees. If it's important to you, it's safest to leave your releases alone.

Hi there. Nope, you own your song and can upload it wherever you like, as long as you don't use "Content ID" on any of your songs at all.

When I reupload, will it just take the place of the previous song so the streams and playlists they've been added to will stay the same? Hopefully my question makes sense aha. If you use the ISRC code it should simply replace the original versions but there’s no guarantee unfortunately.

For instance, upload the album in its current form, copy the UPC & ISRC codes (to register with Nielsen), delete the album from DK and then re-upload with the same codes when it's complete? I deleted a track from my second artist account. Now I want to change a few things like a different drum set and different instruments here and there and upload it on my first artist account.
It's basically a new song - but still the same theme. Can I just upload it as a new track or is necessary to ''rerelease'' it ?
There's a chance the platforms will flag this as a "duplicate" track and not allow it, but if you've changed it enough, and especially renamed it, you should be fine. Unfortunately because some artists re-release songs just to try to get them placed on playlists and gain more "hype", the streaming platforms have really cracked down on re-releasing the same song. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

• Changes in playing time which exceed 10 seconds

Apple Music and Spotify will often block if you try to release the exact same song multiple times as many artists have been trying to re-release the same song to get in to playlists. Hey there. If you released it with DistroKid then yes you can remove and then re-release it. Make sure you have a good reason for this and really need to change something as many platforms will reject t it and potentially ban future releases if you remove and re-release the exact same album.
This is because artists have started removing and re-releasing multiple times to try to get playlist placements.

I want to release an album with a previously released single on it (which DK says you can do), but I want to change the audio file to something like what you described. Same length, a couple fixes. Would I go about this all the same way as you described? There isn't an option under individual songs asking if they have been previously released, but there is the ISRC box.
Hey Sara. Yes, you can include the song on an album and change it (the audio file) to a new one. I've done that on a few albums where I've included previously released singles, and I haven't tried to use the ISRC codes, though you could do this to see if the plays would link up.

I removed my first song before have been submitted to the digital platforms, I mean because being the first release, the artist profile of the digital platforms wouldn't have been created right? I have the Musician Plus, and the second artist name I didn't want, has been registered on the release. Hey there Victor. The “two artist name” thing is at DistroKid’s end so you may need to contact them to remove the one you have used, once there are definitely no action e releases against it.
