Hey man, thanks so much for all the info, I have a question. On tunecore it ask if each song has been loaded before. Some of them have, as singles. However even though Single has now been remastered for the album. My question is, if I click “yes they haven been loaded before” will it replace the single versions with my new mastered and edited ones? I’m afraid my album will have the versions thats already loaded as singles.
It gets a little complex with this stuff. In short of its a new version of the song (remastered, remixed) then it counts as a new song and therefore not released before.
@@PeteJohnsMusic does the streams stay with the old version or when you click on my profile will it have the new version with the old streams? Thank you so much for that quick response.
I’m far from an expert, but I’m pretty sure that is done at the song level? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
Hey Pete! Is it possible for me, when reuploading the audio files, to instead select a different audio file, for example, a louder more proffesional version? and will i maintain the same amount of streams? Thanks.
For context, I plan to upload a 5 song EP, 4 of them are singles and the fifth will be release in the EP. I want to delete the single vesions of the other songs so I maintain the same artwork for all my songs.
@@qwertyswars I haven't tried doing it yet. But I will let you know. If you are using distrokid, try and see if it will give you that option. Or perhaps you can upload an experimental track and see if you can change the audio file. Best of luck.
Very helpful video Pete! I saw an artist promoting a single off their album and I noticed the whole album was uploaded but every song was greyed out except the single. The album essentially unlocked on the release date, I was wondering if you know how this is done. Thank you in advance! 🙏

I’m fine with keeping both the single and the ep version up just wasn’t sure if it was necessary to use same isrc code
I uploaded my album first because I wasn’t sure of when I would drop the single. If I now upload the single (that’s already on the album) with an earlier release date than the album, will it work correctly? Does the single need to be UPLOADED first or have an EARLIER release date. Any help would be really appreciated !!

Pete - so, I have an album that I've already uploaded and scheduled for release. (It comes out in October). I have several singles that have been releasing each week. Those singles have their ISRC codes. The album that I uploaded also already has DIFFERENT ISRC codes for those songs. SO. My question: can I alter/edit the ISRC code on songs ALREADY UPLOADED for a future release? Thanks so much!! These are some tricky things to figure out for sure. I appreciate your tutorial and all of the responses you've made to everyone so far.
Good question? I must admit I’ve only ever done it the other way. You might need to reach out to DistroKid d ask them directly. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey Pete! I have the Musician plan, and I can't change the ISRC code to what it was when I relased it. Do you think it could work if I don't put the code there?

Hello Pete! Currently figuring this out to release my debut album, and I have remastered some singles to fit the album flow. Will the metadata still align if the new audio file has a small lenght difference compared to its single version? Thank you!
Fantastic, super helpful. I'm looking in Distrokid after walking through this and notice that the old singles are still there. Do I need to do anything with those "singles" in Distrokid now that they're packaged together as an EP?
@@PeteJohnsMusic and will the “stream count” be tied together? Like if someone listens to the ep version, will that reflect on the single? Thank you very much
Hi Pete, Thanks for the helpful video! I have one question though. I tried to see if someone already asked the same question in the comments, but I don't think someone has. At 11:16 you are at the 'Extra's' part. I was wondering if you know that if you already chose 'UA-cam Money' and 'Shazam' when you released the songs as singles, if you have to select this again when you release the songs as an EP? Hopefully you or someone else can help me with this!
Hey there. So, the two versions are treated completely separately so you can choose to add extras to the EP or album version. However, for UA-cam Content ID, if the song is exactly the same as the single version then it won’t need it added again.
Hello Pete! thank you so much for this video! quick question, can I release a single on Friday (the third single of the upcoming album) and the album on the following Monday? or do albums have to released on Mondays, as well? thank you so much!
Hey there. You should be able to release on any day you like, provided you have the Musician Plus plan and go e it enough time. Albums and singles are treated as separate releases. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Thanks again Pete for this helpful video. Do you if, when you put singles into an album, the count on the number of streams for the songs continue or re start at zero? Thanks in advance!
Hey there. Pretty sure each "version" is treated and counted differently. You can try releasing the single using the same ISRC code as the song on the album and it MAY work... but I haven't really tested this.
Would love To know of others experience when it comes down to streaming countability; like for example your single A got 10.000 plays, will those count and appear on the exact song a but within album/ep??

Your video helps answer part of my question and I have also been trying to find out if I can name my new album and use the same artwork, as a single I have already released which will also be on the album? I just really like the existing artwork and song title! Thank you!
It can’t be an exact duplicate. You can either remove the previous release, or edit the artwork to be sightly different.
@@PeteJohnsMusic ok got it, thank you so much for your quick response, being able to speak to a human these days is a rare commodity!
now here's a deep question for you! I uploaded some songs accidentally as mp3 files to distro! If I upload them in WAV format and link them to the right ISRC #, will Distro get confused since they are different file types when trying to link them?
You’ll need to remove the original songs first. It won’t let you re-release using the same ISRC. Http://studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@PeteJohnsMusic so maybe I should keep the files the same and have some mp3 and some Wav for consistency sake and just not make the same mistake next time
I am currently dropping an ep and I previously released the lead single for it as a single is there a way where I can add the already released single to my ep?
You can but it will generally be treated as a separate song.
@@PeteJohnsMusic so do I just make it as a normal release in the album ? And will the streams be together? Or the same
Sooooo good. Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful.

UPDATE:
Did this work for you Pete? are all of your streams combining on all platforms?
Anybody else have success with this?
I didn’t really try to sync up listens as I didn’t use the ISRC codes. DistroKid say that it “should” sync but no guarantees. More info here. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Thanks Pete. Will the new songs lose their Steam counts on eg. Spotify? or does the platform know that it's the same song and will take them over?
Generally they will be treated separately. You can use the ISRC code if you want to try to sync them, but a lot depends on the platform.
Do you think it's a good idea to release 6 singles then bundle them up into an album with a couple extra songs for an 8 track album?
Yep. Really no down side to having more songs released in more ways.
@@PeteJohnsMusic will this reset the stream count on the original singles?
@@piersonbooth thats what im asking about to :)
Doesn’t really matter. Most of the time it will be tracked separately.
This was really useful for combining some earlier releases into an EP, thanks buddy! :)

After you re-release your singles as an EP, do you have to register them in your PRO of choice and copyright them again or is that unnecessary?
I’m far from an expert, but I’m pretty sure that is done at the song level? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
Thanks ever so much for this thorough video, you helped me tremendously!!

Hey there. My advice is to only re-upload if you really need to. Check out more info here. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@reubencilliers im tryna do the same thing.. what did you end up doing?
@@qwertyswars I haven't tried doing it yet. But I will let you know. If you are using distrokid, try and see if it will give you that option. Or perhaps you can upload an experimental track and see if you can change the audio file. Best of luck.
Very helpful video Pete! I saw an artist promoting a single off their album and I noticed the whole album was uploaded but every song was greyed out except the single. The album essentially unlocked on the release date, I was wondering if you know how this is done. Thank you in advance! 🙏
Hmmm…. Not sure that option is available through DistroKid? Unless the specific platform can identify that a single has already been released and make it available on the album page? Maybe check in with DistroKid directly. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@PeteJohnsMusic That's what I'm thinking. I'm really curious, I emailed Distrokid to ask. I'll let you know what they say! There's a lot of examples of this on apple music on the homepage under "Coming Soon" Thank you for your response 🙏
@@mikelavish did they get back to you about that? Id love to know how to do that aswell
So I’m releasing a single, than a few weeks later a 6 song ep including that previously released single, should I include same isrc code from previous releases single or does it not matter? I’m fine with keeping both the single and the ep version up just wasn’t sure if it was necessary to use same isrc code
Yeah, you can try using the ISRC code and it SHOULD link them but doesn’t always work.
I uploaded my album first because I wasn’t sure of when I would drop the single. If I now upload the single (that’s already on the album) with an earlier release date than the album, will it work correctly? Does the single need to be UPLOADED first or have an EARLIER release date. Any help would be really appreciated !!
Hey there. So I haven’t actually tried releasing a single with a release date in the past but it seems to be supported by DistroKid. I would check with them directly if you’re not sure - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
If I release an EP for 3 weeks out, and want to add another track to it prior to the actual release date is that possible?
Nope. Need to remove the whole release and release again from the start. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
COULD YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME INSTANT GRATIFICATION!? Like would i be able to upload a first cover then a second one???n please reply
Not sure I follow your question sorry? Maybe check out my DistroKid FAQ here - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
You might need to reach out to DistroKid d ask them directly. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
hey Pete,
how can I edit my release from "album" to be identified as EP?
it contains 7tracks with the total duration is less than 30 mins.
I think anything over 6 tracks is automatically an album?
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks for the reply. is there anything that I could try to get changed to EP? do I have to reupload it again?

It says an album title but I want to release it as an Ep how will distrokid get to know that its an ep
I think it just names it based on the number of tracks. It’s pretty interchangeable between EP and album. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey Pete!
I have the Musician plan, and I can't change the ISRC code to what it was when I relased it. Do you think it could work if I don't put the code there?
Yeah it should be fine. It just perhaps won’t align with the original release. It as long as the first one is R.E.M. led you’ll be fine. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Great video it work perfectly! I am now going to remove the singles will this affect the auto generated videos on UA-cam?
Yes. If you remove a song it’s corresponding UA-cam automated video will also be removed.

Hello Pete! Currently figuring this out to release my debut album, and I have remastered some singles to fit the album flow. Will the metadata still align if the new audio file has a small lenght difference compared to its single version? Thank you!
Check out my DistroKid FAQ here. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Fantastic, super helpful. I'm looking in Distrokid after walking through this and notice that the old singles are still there. Do I need to do anything with those "singles" in Distrokid now that they're packaged together as an EP?
You can remove them or leave them. There’s really no major issues with having multiple versions of the same song released.
@@PeteJohnsMusic and will the “stream count” be tied together? Like if someone listens to the ep version, will that reflect on the single? Thank you very much
Hi Pete,
Thanks for the helpful video!
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks a lot!
Hello Pete! thank you so much for this video!
quick question, can I release a single on Friday (the third single of the upcoming album) and the album on the following Monday? or do albums have to released on Mondays, as well? thank you so much!
Hey there. You should be able to release on any day you like, provided you have the Musician Plus plan and go e it enough time. Albums and singles are treated as separate releases. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you so much!
Great ....thanks...doing this now!

Hey Pete.
Can I after uploaded my album, delete the singles?
You can, but there’s really not much reason to do this.
Good advice mate.
🙏
Awesome.😎

Thanks again Pete for this helpful video. Do you if, when you put singles into an album, the count on the number of streams for the songs continue or re start at zero? Thanks in advance!
Hey there. Pretty sure each "version" is treated and counted differently. You can try releasing the single using the same ISRC code as the song on the album and it MAY work... but I haven't really tested this.
Would love
To know of others experience when it comes down to streaming countability; like for example your single A got 10.000 plays, will those count and appear on the exact song a but within album/ep??
Yeh this is a very important question!
