He had previously asked me to release the soundtrack ASAP, but after some changes in the theatrical release date made by the distribution company, they asked me to change the release date for until April 20th, 2023... I was about to delete the whole thing from the stores until I found your video. ☺
If u abort the album and re upload it will Apple Music accept it again ? I have had 4 tracks that had an error. Just afraid to abort it and Apple Music not accepting it again
It is always risky if you are uploading the exact same song, but should be okay. Worth waiting at least a few days between to ensure it’s complrtrly removed.
Hey. It is possible to change the audio. You must ensure that the metadata and the track length is the same and it will replace the track in the stores, after which you can choose to delete the original track. It is risky at times, and might not work in certain scenarios. So do not delete the old track until you are sure that the link takes places.

Here's what worked for me as suggested by Spotify : While you are re-uploading the new track in my case, with an improved mix. Make sure the metadata and song length are the same. If the metadata is altered, your distributor can submit a metadata change sheet. Here's where Distrokid is so helpful. If you select the original date of the release, they will file everything for you automatically. You do not need to enter the old ISRC code. All you have to do is enter the original release date. You can also change the name of the song but not the name of the artist. This comes in particularly helpful when you initially release a single from an album. Later when the entire album is due for release, select the original date for that particular song and in 5 days the original single should link with the song in the album and retain the same play count. Now, it is at your discretion whether you would like to keep the original single or delete it. Hopefully, this was helpful. Great work with your channel. I end up spending a lot of time into this research, glad to see someone make it available at ease. Cheers p.s: This has worked for me, although there are times this might not work if Spotify deems that the two tracks and are not similar enough.

Quick question! My song has already been processed and submitted to stores. if I move the release date one day forward(From Thurs to Wed), will that delay things? Also, if I choose to edit the release, but don't edit the artwork, will my song artwork be blank
I wouldn’t bother taking the risk for the sake of a day right now as it can actually impact your release and make it take longer, or mess up with some stores. If you can avoid editing during the release process it’s best. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Great video mate, I was wondering if you knew how long an album artwork change takes to go live? I’ve done it once and it was pretty instant (same day), been waiting on another changing for a few days now but when I search for the song on Instagrams story Spotify music search the change has been made, just not on actual Spotify. if you put a song on youtube and THEN release it on distrokid, can you say "no" to "previously released"? what could happen then? I heard that the "previously released" applies to music distributors rather than platforms, but is that true?
Yes. Previously released only applies to actually releasing to streaming platforms via a distributor (Spotify, Apple Music). Platforms like UA-cam, Facebook and Soundcloud don’t count as actually “released”.

It’s always the best idea to leave a song to release once it’s uploaded. I would probably remove completely at this stage if you want to ensure it will have the right artwork.

So, because details may have been sent to some platforms, you may want to completely cancel this release and wait a day or two then resubmit if you want to ensure everything is exactly right. Hey pete! I'm really at a loss right now. I uploaded two songs through distrokid to Spotify Just so I could test how it would sound. I intended on deleting them and re-uploading them as "official releases" that I would advertise at different dates (a month or so apart). It seems that I can do that if i keep the same name and metadata (not sure what that even is). The problem is I also want to change my name before putting stuff out "officially" and I only want one of the songs released right now. Basically I used distrokid to 'test' things out, not realizing that the genie is kinda out of the bottle now. Am I able to change my name through distrokid, then re-release songs somehow?
Hey there. Unfortunately the stores a cracking down on exactly this right now because artists have been releasing the same songs multiple times to try to get more exposure and get on playlists. You also can’t change your name with DistroKid yourself once you have released if you’re in the standard plan as you only get one artist name. You would need to remove everything and then contact DistroKid to ask nicely if they will help. The songs may still be rejected if they are exactly the same however. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

I have a similar problem with the $35 plan. Every song has the correct album image... but each one is labeled an individual album lol It never asked me what album each song belongs to. So... 20 songs became 20 albums with the same CD Cover 😆
Im pretty sure actually distrokid said.. "we can't control these things since they aren't part of us but rumor has it you can use the same isrc code, same file name and song name and it may replace your old song" with plus membership
I just released an EP for a new project. This album is all trippy bass music, but one track is a very loud, amplified hardstyle song. All the tracks sound great in wav form, but the one track sounds like a bad UA-cam video with new artifacts. I'm sure this is something Spotify did. I haven't checked other stores yet. I love distrokid though!
Hi Pete, I only need to edit the preview start clip time. Do I have to add the album cover again? I noticed in your video and on my edit page it’s blank. If I leave it blank and only edit the start preview Distrokid will use the artwork again already released. Correct? Pete I truly need help I deleted an album i released back in may because I wanted to edit something as in add a new song/track I made, which was no problem 💯anyways separate from that my first song “ Intro (Mind Is Racin) in the album won’t upload however all the other songs do. It keeps saying “ Song: Intro (Mind Is Racin') Error: Duplicate audio found, but with a different title (Intro (Mind Is Racin)) or artist (Solo Gang Era). Unfortunately, streaming services do not allow the same audio to be uploaded with different metadata. The metadata must match exactly. “ like what can I do then I had the mind racing song out as a single before the album but I even deleted it to see if it would let me place it back on the album but it keeps just waging that... I have a headache hahaa honestly and idk what else to do Is there no hope uploading my album just because of this?...
It can be tricky once you hit these issues with DistroKid. Often you'll need to ensure things are completely removed from stores before re-uploading. Contact DistroKid if you are still having issues via their FAQ page.

Nope. You would need to remove all your music and then re-upload. And need to be careful due to Apple and Spotify having pretty strict guidelines around this. Only do it if you really need to.

@@PeteJohnsMusic You are right. Thank you! I abandoned and submitted it. But, FYI, everyone, the title has to be exactly the same because the stores have the audio with the same sample rate and stuff that was previously submitted even though it was deleted. They won't accept the same audio with a different title. They are strict about it. So, you have to have a different audio (re-mastered) if you want to change the title of the song.
I just noticed that Distrokid charged some fees a few times. Do they charge the fee every time I edit my release ? I have submitted 2 singles (both haven't been released yet), but I just wanted to edit the artworks. I couldn't find how to contact Distrokid regarding the duplicated charges in FAQ. Has something changed with distrokid. I just got an email saying my EP can't have 7 songs, only 4-6 so I had a new cover art made without EP in it and just need to change the album title to not say EP. I get the same instructions everywhere I look to just go into my album page and click on edit release. The edit release button simply doesn't exist. I have options to change album artwork or abort album altogether. After the disastrous onerpm experience I switched over because of the ease of use which now distrokid seems to be screwing things up too with a janky non functional website. Before uploading they simply could have had basic guild lines saying a song limit or range for EPs and not green lit everything before sending it off to be rejected by the stores. Such a simple thing that now seemingly can't be fixed.

If I click the abort album it just has a message saying I can't reupload using different metadata or artist name which I'm pretty sure I'm not trying to do by just changing the artwork and making a small tweak to the title. Hi! I forgot to use my own IRSC codes (I didn't realised that Distrokid was doing it automatically and assumed it would use the ones that were embed in the wav files during the mastering...) Do I need to delete the album then and start all over again? The warning message that appears when clicking on "remove" is a bit scary: "Streaming services won't let you upload it again, unless you use the exact same artist name and metadata." Thank you for your help! :)
Yeah it should work without you he ISRC code but Jay not align with your original release. And yes, streaming services have cracked down quite a bit on folks uploading the same so multiple times which is why it’s best to avoid re-releasing if at all possible.

hi so I have a question. I have two accounts Wyborn and DUGWAY, and I want to move a song from Wyborn to DUGWAY. Whenever I go to edit the song and change the artist band name to DUGWAY it says “update all five of my Wyborn releases to the new artist named Dugway?“. This is confusing because dugway is already been created I don’t want to make yet a second account with the same name DUGWAY I want to know if it goes on the already made account with the rest of the already released songs. if that makes sense. i’m just confused by their use of “NEW” artist name when in fact it’s an account that’s well saturated with releases.

As in if I have a song set for release 2 weeks from now, and 1 week later I decide to change artwork, will the submission be unaffected whatsoever? Or will it be re-pitched automatically? I would always wait a few days to ensure it’s completely down otherwise you’re more likely to get errors from stores that you’re releasing something that’s already released. And ensure it’s not the exact same file and serials otherwise it will get rejected.
Hey I uploaded a song into distrokid that's already made it on UA-cam but I made a mistake and didn't add the featured artist in will it change the title on UA-cam and add their name into it ? Also how long does it usually take for the edits to happen ?
Does it show up as your most recent release in your Spotify Apple etc? Is it possible to backdate a release? For example a song I released April 2021, could I have it in my store back in April 2021 and not my most recent release?
Thanks so much! I actually have a different issue. When I scheduled the release, I made a mistake in the song title! Instead of "Get" I put "Be"! ARGH! DistroKid changed the title, thank goodness! But the Hyperfollow link still has the mistake. I've also been dealing with DistroKid re: another issue. I've been trying to get disentangled from a band that is no longer together. I'm still having trouble establishing my own Spotify for Artists page. (Long story.) Anyway, the release date is now 2/29. Should just say "no biggie" re: the Hyperfollow link & just push back the release date? Cons? Or should I pull the release from the stores & re-release it? Cons? Hey there. So yes, I think this would work as long as you completely remove and then re-upload under the different name. I may try this soon with my own single that I released through Amuse (another distributor) and re-release it through DistroKid under my name. Mostly juts to see how things work. I imagine as long as they are completely new and don’t share ISRC codes etc then it should be fine?
Pete Johns that’s what I was thinking / hoping. Distrokid says you cannot upload, delete, then reupload if the metadata doesn’t exactly match , but they aren’t clear on if that’s a “end-all” fixture (not barring the song(s) being completely removed from both distribution and platforms). In any case, I suppose I can delete and wait a few days for the song to be removed, and then give it a go. I suppose Amuse is also an option. I look forward to hearing how that works.

Hey there. It’s easiest to consider the DistroKid release as having nothing to do with your current accounts anywhere - with Spotify, UA-cam or anywhere else. When you release, an artist profile is creating on all the relevant platforms so you don’t need any accounts with any services.

You must ensure that the metadata and the track length is the same and it will replace the track in the stores, after which you can choose to delete the original track. It is risky at times, and might not work in certain scenarios. So do not delete the old track until you are sure that the link takes places.

While you are re-uploading the new track in my case, with an improved mix. Make sure the metadata and song length are the same. If the metadata is altered, your distributor can submit a metadata change sheet.
Here's where Distrokid is so helpful. If you select the original date of the release, they will file everything for you automatically. You do not need to enter the old ISRC code. All you have to do is enter the original release date. You can also change the name of the song but not the name of the artist.
This comes in particularly helpful when you initially release a single from an album. Later when the entire album is due for release, select the original date for that particular song and in 5 days the original single should link with the song in the album and retain the same play count. Now, it is at your discretion whether you would like to keep the original single or delete it.
Hopefully, this was helpful. Great work with your channel. I end up spending a lot of time into this research, glad to see someone make it available at ease. Cheers
p.s: This has worked for me, although there are times this might not work if Spotify deems that the two tracks and are not similar enough.

Yes. Previously released only applies to actually releasing to streaming platforms via a distributor (Spotify, Apple Music). Platforms like UA-cam, Facebook and Soundcloud don’t count as actually “released”.

I wouldn’t mess with a release in progress as it can cause issues. In my experience it has taken 1-2 weeks across the various platforms.

It’s always the best idea to leave a song to release once it’s uploaded. I would probably remove completely at this stage if you want to ensure it will have the right artwork.

So, because details may have been sent to some platforms, you may want to completely cancel this release and wait a day or two then resubmit if you want to ensure everything is exactly right. Hey pete! I'm really at a loss right now. I uploaded two songs through distrokid to Spotify Just so I could test how it would sound. I intended on deleting them and re-uploading them as "official releases" that I would advertise at different dates (a month or so apart). It seems that I can do that if i keep the same name and metadata (not sure what that even is). The problem is I also want to change my name before putting stuff out "officially" and I only want one of the songs released right now. Basically I used distrokid to 'test' things out, not realizing that the genie is kinda out of the bottle now. Am I able to change my name through distrokid, then re-release songs somehow?
Hey there. Unfortunately the stores a cracking down on exactly this right now because artists have been releasing the same songs multiple times to try to get more exposure and get on playlists.
You also can’t change your name with DistroKid yourself once you have released if you’re in the standard plan as you only get one artist name. You would need to remove everything and then contact DistroKid to ask nicely if they will help. The songs may still be rejected if they are exactly the same however.

I have a similar problem with the $35 plan. Every song has the correct album image... but each one is labeled an individual album lol It never asked me what album each song belongs to. So... 20 songs became 20 albums with the same CD Cover 😆

I just released an EP for a new project. This album is all trippy bass music, but one track is a very loud, amplified hardstyle song.
All the tracks sound great in wav form, but the one track sounds like a bad UA-cam video with new artifacts.
I'm sure this is something Spotify did. I haven't checked other stores yet.

The metadata must match exactly. “ like what can I do then I had the mind racing song out as a single before the album but I even deleted it to see if it would let me place it back on the album but it keeps just waging that... It can be tricky once you hit these issues with DistroKid. Often you'll need to ensure things are completely removed from stores before re-uploading. Contact DistroKid if you are still having issues via their FAQ page.

But, FYI, everyone, the title has to be exactly the same because the stores have the audio with the same sample rate and stuff that was previously submitted even though it was deleted. They won't accept the same audio with a different title. They are strict about it. So, you have to have a different audio (re-mastered) if you want to change the title of the song.
I just noticed that Distrokid charged some fees a few times. Do they charge the fee every time I edit my release ? I have submitted 2 singles (both haven't been released yet), but I just wanted to edit the artworks. I couldn't find how to contact Distrokid regarding the duplicated charges in FAQ. Has something changed with distrokid. I just got an email saying my EP can't have 7 songs, only 4-6 so I had a new cover art made without EP in it and just need to change the album title to not say EP. I get the same instructions everywhere I look to just go into my album page and click on edit release. The edit release button simply doesn't exist. I have options to change album artwork or abort album altogether. After the disastrous onerpm experience I switched over because of the ease of use which now distrokid seems to be screwing things up too with a janky non functional website. Before uploading they simply could have had basic guild lines saying a song limit or range for EPs and not green lit everything before sending it off to be rejected by the stores. Such a simple thing that now seemingly can't be fixed.

Yeah it should work without you he ISRC code but Jay not align with your original release. And yes, streaming services have cracked down quite a bit on folks uploading the same so multiple times which is why it’s best to avoid re-releasing if at all possible.

hi so I have a question. I have two accounts Wyborn and DUGWAY, and I want to move a song from Wyborn to DUGWAY. Whenever I go to edit the song and change the artist band name to DUGWAY it says “update all five of my Wyborn releases to the new artist named Dugway?“. This is confusing because dugway is already been created I don’t want to make yet a second account with the same name DUGWAY I want to know if it goes on the already made account with the rest of the already released songs. if that makes sense. i’m just confused by their use of “NEW” artist name when in fact it’s an account that’s well saturated with releases.

If I pitched a song to Spotify editorial playlists, and change the artwork while it’s being pitched, will the pitch submission restart? As in if I have a song set for release 2 weeks from now, and 1 week later I decide to change artwork, will the submission be unaffected whatsoever? Or will it be re-pitched automatically?

Alas, you’re right. The answer is pretty much “no”. Only by removing and re-releasing.

I would always wait a few days to ensure it’s completely down otherwise you’re more likely to get errors from stores that you’re releasing something that’s already released. And ensure it’s not the exact same file and serials otherwise it will get rejected.

Depends on the platform. Usually about a week to update on most places.
Does it show up as your most recent release in your Spotify Apple etc? Is it possible to backdate a release? For example a song I released April 2021, could I have it in my store back in April 2021 and not my most recent release?

Thanks so much! I actually have a different issue. When I scheduled the release, I made a mistake in the song title! Instead of "Get" I put "Be"! ARGH! DistroKid changed the title, thank goodness! But the Hyperfollow link still has the mistake. I've also been dealing with DistroKid re: another issue. I've been trying to get disentangled from a band that is no longer together. I'm still having trouble establishing my own Spotify for Artists page. (Long story.) Anyway, the release date is now 2/29. Should just say "no biggie" re: the Hyperfollow link & just push back the release date? Cons? Or should I pull the release from the stores & re-release it? Cons? Note: The song isn't showing up on my new Spotify for Artists page. Is this a problem? Also, should I care that my 2 songs rekeased under the band name won't be on my page even though I co-wrote them & I'm the vocalist. Thanks!

Hey there my friend. Any changes, especially to make release dates sooner, may have an impact on the release being available on all platforms. I haven’t personally tried this but I think it would be at least somewhat risky.

Okay so you said I can’t delete/replace audio files. What if it’s just one song on a project. An EP project to be exact with 5 songs on it. One of the songs has the wrong audio files. Is there anyway to replace that or would I have to delete the whole project?

So I know you/DK say you can’t technically change the artist name or reupload audio files - however, if I delete all my music off distrokid under my old name, and then reupload using my new name, will there still be an issue (duplicated audio format, metadata etc.)? Hey there. So yes, I think this would work as long as you completely remove and then re-upload under the different name. I may try this soon with my own single that I released through Amuse (another distributor) and re-release it through DistroKid under my name. Mostly juts to see how things work. I imagine as long as they are completely new and don’t share ISRC codes etc then it should be fine?
Pete Johns that’s what I was thinking / hoping. Distrokid says you cannot upload, delete, then reupload if the metadata doesn’t exactly match , but they aren’t clear on if that’s a “end-all” fixture (not barring the song(s) being completely removed from both distribution and platforms). In any case, I suppose I can delete and wait a few days for the song to be removed, and then give it a go. I suppose Amuse is also an option. I look forward to hearing how that works.

Hey there. No, unfortunately the release is treated as one entity. You would need to remove the whole album and re-release it as an album.
Okay just to clear this to myself . For example if I have a song and want to upload it to UA-cam as video clip and also upload it with distrokid for other platforms , what should i do ? Upload my song as video clip fort on UA-cam or distrokid ? And should I have account on all platforms so I can upload it easily through distrokid ? Or it doesn’t need ? I can just upload on distrokid and he will just store them on the platforms by itself ?
Hey there. It’s easiest to consider the DistroKid release as having nothing to do with your current accounts anywhere - with Spotify, UA-cam or anywhere else.
When you release, an artist profile is creating on all the relevant platforms so you don’t need any accounts with any services.
