- Are you in the Christmas spirit yet? Christine Baranski's Martha May Who is, and she's got the Christmas Lights to boot!
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000): He's mean, he's green, and he doesn't like the Yuletide season one bit. Jim Carrey stars as the title character in this live-action adaptation of the classic children's story by Dr. Seuss. High atop Mt. Crumpet, The Grinch observes the residents of Whoville joyously preparing to celebrate Christmas. He decides he's had enough of all this happiness, and conspires to steal Christmas from Whoville! A fascinating film filled with Academy Award nominated sets and Academy Award winning make-up that perfectly captures the unique look of Dr. Seuss' world. A true holiday classic!

Martha’s maniacal grin as she uses that light canon - she really is a good match for the Grinch.
Lmao I was just thinking that. She's actually pretty chaotic.
Not gonna lie, Martha was eating the girls UP in this movie. I want to be just like her when I grow up.
I Know that's right 😂

Jesus is the Real Hero (Believe it or not).
@@laylolireesesq4787 yep! I still enjoy it (Allison Taylor from Simpson’s/Superman 1,000/Kevin Costner on McFarland USA).
@@laylolireesesq4787 I still see how Jealous Betty is (Little Foot and Ducky/Tim Burton Spoof on Mars Attack/McDonald’s at Lincolnshire/Flexibility since 2011 and 2010 finally counts!😇).
I’m starting to think Martha May had the best lights for 2 reasons:
1. Mayor was trynna get some whossy
2. She wanted the grinch to be able to see them from mt crumpet.
Most likely the mayor is indeed trying to impress Martha
@@alexanderip1003 that’s why he cheated Betty Lou out of a well deserved win
You right
@@alexanderip1003 1:05 Martha and Betty both should know Christmas isn’t about Selfishness and Winning: it’s not even about Presents or Trees or Reindeer or Decorations.
Whossy 😂😂😂😂
I’m just finding out that the scene with the cannon was 100% practical and was played in reverse. The machine they used actually pulled the lights down without breaking any of them or shorting out the wires.
That’s just insanely awesome
I could tell it was shot in reverse. It made it look even cooler.
That is AWESOME!!!! Not dissing on CGI but they will never make movies as cool as this.
I think you can see the people in the background walking backwards lol
Its not 100% practical, The initial cut of her starting to use it 1:21 isn't practical that's purely composite. However the transition to it "placing" the lights is. The reverse play was always vary obvious (especially in theaters).
Martha is like the privileged popular girl who is actually nice, but tends to brag without realizing how she sounds.
I think the reason Martha has the best lights is actually for the Grinch hoping he’ll come back to her.
I like this idea
Love that long "Hi!"

Always classic
Hiiiiiiiiiiiii!
@@shewhosdifferent7396 I still see it (Little Foot and Unikitty/Chipotle in Los Angeles).
Lol i live for ittt
The way Martha-Mae drawls out ""Betty! HIIiii!" has more character in it than I've literally ever heard anywhere else, including like, Daniel-day-louis levels of actor. I at ONCE know what the actress is conveying. A ridiculously specific and overdramatic version of the neighbor we ALL know.
The crank and stance Martha does is hilarious
If the Grinch saw this he'd probably say he still likes her, as he admires a woman who can crush someone's spirit.
Everyone wants that cannon to speed up Christmas decorating, don't try to deny it. XD
I think I was in second grade when I saw this movie in theaters with my family. As soon as Martha showed up, that was when I realized I also liked girls in addition to boys.
I think Betty does too
I remember wanting that cannon so bad as a kid.
Anyone else ever notice that Christine Baranski is the only one in this movie who didn’t need a lot of makeup to look like a Who? Everyone else had parts added to their face. She’s the only one they basically just put in regular makeup. The only thing they really changed is they gave her more of a lip which is weird because Whos don’t have much lip.
She's the only one with a regular nose
This scene seems real satisfying when finding a badass method to decorating the house
I think they did it to make her more beautiful looking compared to others and kinda show why everyone fell in love with her.
On another note isnt it awesome she had her own home no kids or husband but still did her own thing?
it cause was the only who who didnt "stick up her nose" to the grinch
Who else here REALLY wanted this Cannon as a kid? Like that Xmas lights Cannon would have made decorating so much easier!
were you decorating the outside of your house as a kid? 😭
@@pansharks Well I lived in an apartment complex in New Jersey and I always had a tree during the holidays. But I always loved wanting to have a house to decorate lights with.
Saw in the comments that this is scwne was shot reversed and the machine is actually to take down lights
@@brittcampbell852 I know that’s good editing. But I still think that thing looked super cool.
I say "Betty Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" and "the MuScLes" all the time lol
Those 2 lines are iconic
@@juliahornback2843💯💯
How they did this scene:
They had a gun that took all the lights off, and then just reversed the footage lol.
Asked nobody cuz it's so obvious
“Betttttyyyyy!!! Hiiiiiiiii!!!” 😂❤
Martha!
MATERIAL GWORLL
With our technology today, someone could literally recreate this light cannon, And I’d buy it in an instant.
BETTY
Hiiiiiiiiii
God tier line delivery
I want that Christmas lights canon!
Me too
Same
I gotta get me one of those.
Same here
1:01-1:04 I don’t know why, but I love that line!
That machine that launches Christmas lights sounds like a tank
Why is Martha feeling honry during the whole movie
the real meaning behind this scene is that both women are unhappy.. instead of spending xmas with their loved ones.. they were out competing like little kids in the freezing cold.. martha for having no one who truly loves her and betty for not having no one to truly lust for her.
Me as a kid watching this and not realizing I was a lesbian for another twelve years: Huh! Interesting!
One of the best Christmas movies 🙂
yesenia are you dating sonic
@@treymcclure4645 um no, it’s Samuel
ok
Martha May always had a thing for the Grinch
I read today that apparently the machine pulls the lights off the the building and they just played the video in reverse so I wanted to give it a watch. Looking at it now it is pretty obvious but it still blew my mind.
Read that also on FB and that's why im here 😆.
Yeah but the trick is keeping the lights working and not snagging the wire
In my freshman year in college, I was unlocking the door to my dorm and coming from my friends' dorm right next door, I could hear Martha shouting from their TV "Betty! Hiiiii!" I quickly ran into my room to drop my school stuff off and race back to knock on their door to watch this movie with them, mostly because one of my friends was watching the movie for the first time and I wanted to see her reaction to everything
At 1:37 you can see the the spull is spinning in the opposite direction of the lights being fired out of the cannon. They forgot to reverse that clip.
love this scene
I’d love one of those cannons! Omg my house takes forever to put lights on it and this would cut the work down to seconds
“Please I’m really impressed” 😂😂
Martha knew she was about to end Betty’s whole career as she was headed outside 😂
Betty!
" " " _H'aaaaaeeeeeeeyy~._" " " 🌈👋
hahahhaha it's almost as silly as Goldmember's _"I louu'fff _*_g'oooOOOOOOOOOLLLD!"_*
I loooooove this so much even in 2023!!!!! ❤
The way Martha May puts up all her Christmas lights in a heartbeat with that machine gun - no wonder Betty Lou Who is no match for her!
Lou is so supportive of his wife, he's awesome
I LOVE Molly Shannon. She's so talented and absolutely lovable. 🥹
I know it's pretty much the future but no one can ever think about maybe impending something like
Nailed it. 😊
If only such cannons were real
I Love This Movie
My sister does too.
This was exactly what I was looking for thanks hahha
Martha May must be a doctor or lawyer to afford those lights and the house

During the holiday lighting contest, the Mayor declared Martha May Whovier the winner when the card handed to him by one of the judges clearly read that Betty Lou Who was the winner. I felt sorry for Betty, she went to extremes just to make her Christmas light display the best that year. Martha did the same with hers too, but Betty won the contest fair and square, and the Mayor robbed her of it just so he could win the heart of a woman who ultimately loved the Grinch over him. Just goes to show how powerful and corrupt the Mayor really is, willing to smash other people's hopes and dreams to pieces just to get what he wants.
Commercial: Two children in 2049, make a star burst in the sky to Surry County Virginia, after eating the Stouffer's Macaroni.
Martha May happens to be Betty Lou’s neighbor which is surprising
I sort of wonder if this effect was done by playing the clip in reverse. Hmmm
Yes it's was it Reverse. And Some forward
Betty! HIIIIIIII!

I wish I have one of those

Martha May looked hot because she was the only adult Who without a prosthetic nose. Also doesn't hurt that Christine's got legs for days.
*WHY ARE WE NOT FUNDING THIS?!?!?!?!?!?*
Before to be Louie Lou Who, Bill Irwin was known as a clown and his reputation lead him to be Ham Gravy in Robert Altman's Popeye starring Robin Williams! In Eight Men Out, Irwin was Eddie Collins, who played in 2nd Base for the 1919 Black Sox, and Hot Shots, he was Buzz Harley, Charlie Sheen's father in the flashback. We see him as Uncle Teddy in Across the Universe starring Jim Sturgess, Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Anderson. In Rachel Get Married, Bill was Anne Hathaway and Rosemarie DeWitt's daddy, Paul Bushman.
Martha may should've called it the Christmas Lighter 6000

Lowkey sapphic to me? Its giving "i know what you are"

Both the live action Grinch movie and the live action Cat In The Hat movie are by far the best live action Dr. Seuss film adaptations.
I'm not a huge fan of the Illumination animated Dr. Seuss films that we got after Audrey Geisel forbidden future live action Dr. Seuss adaptations on Ted's work because sometimes they can be misguided to the books, the animated TV specials and the first two live action Dr. Seuss films.
I mean they did OK but they are not as good as the first three I was telling you about. Because with Horton Hears a Who, The Lorax and The Grinch reboot they all have tons of problems along with some animation errors and terrible voice acting. Unlike those three these two live action Dr. Seuss films worked so well they're actually hilarious. After all both the live action Grinch movie and the live action Cat In The Hat movie are like a cartoon world come to life where you have one world where it's Christmas all the time with a backstory of The Grinch, The Mayor and Martha May when they were kids and another world where it's like Austin Powers because the sets, props and costumes are bright and colorful. Plus they both give you a difference and comparison to both the books and TV specials. I also like Jim Carrey and Mike Myers in theses films and they both did a great job playing The Grinch and The Cat In the Hat and they are both great choices for the actors to play theses characters. For example if Tim Allen got the role to play The Cat In The Hat then The Santa Clause 2 would have never been in production and the live action Cat In The Hat movie staring Tim Allen would have been not only a box office failure but more like a Home Improvement Dr. Seuss episode than a comedy.
BETTY….HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
