Injora hardbody on the Redcat Gen8 Chassis| Overview and tips for making it work

  • I wanted to change the look of my Redcat Gen8 crawler and also wanted to try my hand at using a hardbody. I found this kit on Amazon fairly cheap (can also be found all over eBay) so I set out to make it fit the Gen8. It is not a direct bolt on at all and you will have to engineer some parts to make it work so just know this is going to take effort and time to make it fit. You also may need to print (or buy) some additional parts to make it all look good. It is not a finished build but then again, are any builds ever truly finished!?!?!

    That's a sweet looking little truck I just got me a gen 8 yesterday

      They are fun trucks and get a bad wrap for not being the top dogs but I have had no issues with mine and I enjoy driving it. The hardbody on top makes it more of a challenge to drive and you need some heavier spring for it or it wobbles all over the place on the stuck ones! You will have a great time with it. The Injora white steel wagon wheels look great on them and offer you some more weight down low. Still lots of hop up parts available for them as well. I have the brass portal housings on mine and it helped out a lot especially with this heavy body on it!

    That's great when you can build something just the way you want it and take pride in it people ask why I put lights on all my RCs and I tell them it's to make them "lighter"

      It was an interesting project to get to work and it turned out looking pretty cool. It drove like a drunken bear afterwards until I got some stiffer springs on it. I should have "lightened it up" some with a light kit! LOL!

    Great looking Rig! Good info for someone looking to mount that type of body

      Thanks! It is a col body but does take some creativity to get it installed. Also much stiffer springs help keep it from swaying around so bad. I stuck the stiffest ones I could find for the Enduro shocks and they worked great, no more drunken bear wobble when driving!

    Great Job. I'm looking at using that rear hinge idea.

      Thanks Bugs! It was the best way I could figure out how to mount it and make it somewhat convenient! Just know you will end up snapping twigs on the trail for a body prop but otherwise it worked pretty good! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!

    Hey bud. Just checking this old one you put up a year or so ago. I picked up an Injora body of my own. Been a challenging build to be honest. With trying to fit it to the Scx10 body. EVEN though these are kinda made for it. Took some time and made a back plate to cover the Hole left open in the rear. Also through on some Aluminum panels right and left on the Back down low to see how it looks. Nice work on the paint on this one. I am not messing with the paint.

      Yeah, it is a great looking body but a giant pain to mount to a chassis! I ended up designing and 3D printing some tool boxes mounted under the bed to help hide all the empty space under it. It also made it drive like a drunken bear! It swayed back and forth a lot! I ended up getting the highest rate springs for the Element shocks and that helped out a lot and it drives much better now! The paint turned out really nice and it was not very hard. It will look good in a solid color as well. Looking forward to seeing what you have done with yours!

      It is a lot of trial and error to get it to go there well but it worked! I changed the springs to associated's heaviest spring they sell for their element Enduro truck shocks and they worked a tone better than the stock ones did. The stock ones just don't have the tension to hold up the heavier body!

    Nice job honestly, I am looking at this very body for a Gen8 build. I think maybe a rear cantilever shock setup so I can get the body to sit lower. Just subbed you channel

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      You will definitely need to do something with the shocks. The stock ones just don't work well with the added weight. It certainly makes you think a lot more about where you are planning to go because of the much higher center of gravity. Appreciate you stopping by and checking it out!

      I was a fun paint job. Getting it to work on the chassis was a fun challenge but was a bit of a head scratcher. The driving is about as described! Staggers and wobbles about but makes it more interesting and you just can't drive over everything like some. Still a work in progress as I am still tinkering with springs and shock oils to try and improve it some. Glad you liked it and got a chuckle out of it!!! 😊

      Awesome! I still have work to do on this truck. I need to get some higher rate springs and some thicker oil for the shocks. Still drives like a drunken bear!!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  5 місяців тому +1

      It should be roughly the same but there will be some fiddling and fabricating involved I am sure! You are definitely going to want to find some stiffer springs I ended up going with the heaviest ones I could find from Associated for the Enduro shocks. The part numbers are ASC42090 and ASC42091, I got them from Amain but many places will probably have them. It really made the truck a whole lot less wobbly and more stable with the heavy body on top!

      I actually made some utility tool boxes and mounted them under the bed. It has helped a lot! Now I am just trying to get it to drive have decent. It is a wobbly pig! Need to play with shocks and spring rates to see what works best.

      Thanks, it has a good bit of detail in the body and I am happy with the paint. Just need to come up with something to fill the void under the bed. I think it will be done once I do that... Probably not!

    Thanks for the video. I just installed the same body on my gen8. Now it seems too heavy for my stock shock springs. After accelerating or body roll the body doesn’t rebound to level. You have this problem?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому

      Yes, I have the same issue. Even with the stock body I noticed it would "lean" from time to time. I shelved it right after this to work on some other stuff and have not gotten back to it yet. I cranked down on the springs and it helped but was making it ride very high. I think slightly shorter shocks and stiffer rate springs is what I am going to try. I've kinda been waiting on cooler weather to mess with the crawlers. Guess that time is near! If you come up with something let me know. I will start looking at options and if I find something reasonable I'll get it and make a follow up video on it.

      I got them from Amazon a while back, I was kind of surprised they still have them. Here is my link to them - amzn.to/4aYCPyz
      They look nice and have held up very well.
