It's an excellent truck especially for the price. I put a FlySky RX, metal bead locks with ROCKS TYRE SWAMPERS and outer hub brass. It's a fantastic truck that can keep up with my TRX4's any day.

You have some amazing "rock crawling" terrain there. Quite a contrast to our rainforest, here in Western WA. I have to go out of my way to find actual rocky places to crawl around on, otherwise, it's mostly "trailing" nearby. I have a nice little patch of woods in my backyard, with challenging dips & climbs, but it's mostly loamy soil. Still, better than having nothing at all. Peace.

About the height issue,bring that ride height down low with a bit stiffer oil and springs and it's a different truck! Also raise those rock sliders up a bit.

I’m happy with the look too, the green is a great color but I agree it needed to be broken up. Enjoy the new truck!
Did you remove paint from the inside of the body or did you mask it off and paint it on the outside?

It's the truck for me, I'm saving up, maybe an 8 or gen 9. I'm so happy with my gen7, I don't need one, I just want one. 8 months of hard crawling my tires show hardly any wear, the shell is hard to scratch, the electronics work perfectly every time, and mine is the $239 Sport model. Superior crawlers, I think.
I just got my v2 gen 8 today
mine,put hw1080 combo w/ surpass hobby 540plus crawler motor...low speed control is good even i still using stock pinion (17T)..but i think w/ HH Magnum 540 more get some punch

I know this video is old but I just wanna say it’s convinced me to finally pull the trigger on buying this thing, I’ve been to my local hobby shop twice and they are trying to sway me away from it towards a pricier axial or Traxxas, I’m brand new to the hobby so I’m just looking for something on the cheaper side to dip my toes in, think I’m just gonna walk in and go straight to this and not let them convince me otherwise
Most definitely a solid first truck! I would buy it with confidence. The traxxas and axial options are solid too, but as you said, they are pricier and if you fall in love with the hobby traxxas and axial will be there waiting with a shiny new model for you down the line. Enjoy the Gen 8, I did see a flash sale on it yesterday through Redcat for $268…….great price if you can find it at that low👍

Thanks for watching! No leaky shocks to date, the suspension setup in general is terrific on this thing. The shocks themselves looked almost too good to be true when I opened it the first time, so far they are living up to their looks!

Yes it is absolutely worth $340 now cuz prices went up due to covid. It does have its issues tho. But for the money? Totally worth it.
Yes those early days of 299 pricing seem to have gone for good……..bummer as it was an absolute STEAL at that price but I agree that even at the current 340~ish range its still well worth its msrp. Thanks for watching!
Why are some Redcats solid green and others green and white like this one? I like the green and white but only see the solid green for sale.
They are sold only in solid green and solid purple. To get the white top I scuffed the exterior and painted with Team Associated flat white x3 coats capped with 3 coats of matte clear coat. Gives it that old vinyl look. Pretty easy diy, choose a base color and make it your own from there 😀 great question, thanks for watching 👍
Better off leaving stock ESC and replacing stock 17t motor for a Holmes hobby Trailmaster 21t $20 motor...you will not regret it 👍

why does it sem lik e the lights are blinking???
It’s actually an anomaly with LED diodes. LEDs can vary in frequency but most are not actually under constant illumination, rather a very high rate of flicker. When recording in 4K @ 24 frames per second it actually captures this effect in some leds which is the case here. I remember wondering the same thing when The Grand Tour showed footage of the Mclaren P1, I thought it was some crazy led lighting effects. Anymore I try to turn the lights off when I’m filming 👍

If you monitor it on Amazon they seem to randomly drop the price to 299 with prime. I see it’s currently back up to 329. I’m not certain what drives the price so be ready to strike when it does. I just looked back on the order details, I ordered on March 9th 2021, delivered March 15th. Price at that time was 299.99. I know RCGirl also picked hers up for 299 around the same time as her original review was posted on Mar 9th ‘21 and she listed both Bitgo Hobby and Amazon. Hope this helps, thanks for watching
@@SonoranScaleStudios I'll have to keep an eye out. I wouldn't mind picking one of these up, but if the price is almost the same as a trx4 sport, it starts to look a little less appealing.
@DanteGTZ I agree. While the Gen 8 is definitely a really solid truck and I have very few complaints one of the biggest selling points for me was the 299 price tag. With a 60~ish dollar gap between it and the trx4 sport makes it a no brainer but at 329 compared to 359 if I didn’t own either I would lean towards the TRX4 myself. 299 maybe for a used one. gen 8 is worth at least over 400 anywhere I go to buy one.
Really? They were 299 initially (I paid 299 on March 12,2021) and the msrp jumped to 329. They are 329 currently on amain hobbies, Amazon, hobby town and 329 directly from redcat. Anywhere charging 400 or more I would not be a customer of. Where are you located?
