I would go with a connection with a girl. though not to sound conceited I have always been very confident and luckily an attractive person;an outgoing fellow as well usually liked quickly.
have had many girls interested in me some I went out of my way to make them like me for fun and I would usually flirt with them at times or give them little signals despite having no actual interest because that's apparently one of the ways I swell my ego seeing them act so giddy at me or small gestures I would make and practice my social skills at the same time
however I never had romantic interest in any but just did it for the fun of watching their reactions/behaviors feels thrilling at times like a Lion hunting lambs.

that might be it, sometimes it could be to cover some insecurity of that others feel like something is wrong with them if they don't have a partner at certain ages or times all most like peer pressure.
the media seems to promotes this line of thought as well, the belief that if you aren't in a relationship you are lonely and unhappy.
if someones lonely and unhappy I doubt not having a partner is the problem nor will having one solve it oneither does that solution sounds like a healthy fix.
