As an owner of a 230i, I can honestly say this is a fantastic little coupe with a great design and beautiful interior. It drives great too, it’s nimble and quick. Sharp handling in corners with comfy seats. The gas mileage is amazing. But it with more minimal options and the 18” wheels look good and aren’t harsh over poor roads like 19” or 20” types.
Do you have the m package does it help over speed bumps
@@mikemayers8672 - This is a very minimally optioned car. Only has the convenience pk. And heated seats and steering wheel. The MSRP was $39,500. Frankly the performance options are totally unnecessary unless you want to track it. A base car like mine is great as a daily. It’s got a luxury look both inside and out and handles great with plenty of torque and speed. The gas mileage is also amazing! Consumer Reports gave it a glowing review. 2022 230i coupe. Alpine White with Cognac interior.
@@rembo183 have any problems with it?
as someone that's hated bmw for 20 years i love this car
Never a BMW fan but I got this car because it came in purple. I ordered it not knowing how it would drive but went with the looks inside and out. I love how the seats feel firm and supportive, the console is easy to figure out, buttons where there should be, and the sound of the turbo whistle in the 230i is a little treat as well. The thundernight metallic gets a lot of attention on bright sunny days the color just pops out from eggplant to plum.
I got it in Thundernight metallic and I liove it! I am sick and tired of white and black cars.....
@@dodgers4121 yep in the sun the purple really pops with the msport package it looks like a 60k car.
@@tresjolieme81 can you tell me what packages if any you added to your 230? And final price?
I'm really considering this or the Civic type R as my next car.
@@porfiriato84 base: 36k, Thundernight metallic: 550, M Sport package includes the 19" black gloss rims, M sport suspension, m steering wheel, shadoline exterior trim: 3250, Heated seats and steering: 550, and the sunroof 800 it all came out to be 42,300 with tax 47K. I put 25k down. 26 city and 35 hwy for that I got the 230i instead of the m240i. The civic type R might be faster? The nice thing about this car is I've had it 6 mo and still havent seen another, there are civics everywhere, I see GR86s, chargers all other coupes, this one is rare in the wild.
I just got a 2023 230xi in Thundernight, I get compliments all the time on it. The purple got me too lol
I recently sold my car and CarGurus instant offer was by far the lowest I got. At least 2 grand less than anyone else. And I ended up just selling it private party for $7k more than their offer. Pass on CarGurus offers for me. That being said, I liked this video and I do love this car.
Watched this video again and I was impressed again. As an owner of this model you are absolutely right! It’s a great daily driver and fun driver’s car for a good price.
Ordered an M240i for delivery in December because I want the new iDrive 8 that comes with all 2 series manufactured in July onwards. I still haven’t seen a review with that interior though.
I bought a 230i today in Thundernight metallic. Traded my 2016 M2 for it and couldn’t be happier.
Love mines, since november and still get butterflys when driving it
Just bought one Brooklyn grey m sport Xdrive. Such a great enthusiast car. Great review.
I’ve had mine for 9 months and as a DD it’s fantastic, the only thing I’m not a fan off is steering feel or lack of which is like most modern cars and the brake pedal feels soft although they work fine. I drove it from Kansas to San Francisco and it eats up the miles extremely well.
Which color did you get?
@@jzb678 mineral white metallic
agree with you
Just ticked ~10k on my daily 230 M-Sport. Averaging 38-40 mpg. 1/2 back roads - 1/2 highway commute.
Brakes do settle down to not 'quite' so grabby but some of that is prob muscle memory.
It sucks but turning the lane departure setting on low helps w/ the steering feel. It seems to track better and feel less 'loose'.
Seen a 220d in the flesh today looks fantastic blew my 2020 A5 black edition coupe into the water on looks 👌❤
I want to spec mine just like this brooklyn grey and white interior
M240xi Brooklyn Grey with Red interior, delivery in Dec. They have been dyno'ed at over 400HP. 0-60 depending on the driver - 3.7 sec. Getting it modded, should produce approx 450HP with a very good bump in torq as well. Was never a fan of all wheel drive, I test drove the Xi, it was an instant - I want the all wheel drive version. This will be the last gas BMW that will be a true drivers car (M2 coming next year).
I have a 2021 F22 230i with MSport, manual and performance non-runflats. It's a feisty, light footed, sweet drive. My car is one of the last manuals imported to the U.S. I like the look of the G42 but it doesn't come with a manual transmission (which a pure driver's car must have) and the performance tires have disappeared from configurator. I have read that the generous headroom of the F22 has been reduced in the G42, a potential problem for drivers with long torsos. My car is built in Germany but I think the U.S market G42 is a Mexican build.
Had this as a loaner yesterday and it is nice! A but small and low for me but what a nice car.
I love low cars! I'm hoping to get one by end of this year
I liked the video. I feel like it was 6-months late, though. I ordered a 2023 m240i and it's getting delivered in 4-weeks. The whole interior is changing in terms of curved display and the shift console. Maybe in the future if you're going to be making a review video so late in the cycle, allude to the changes that are imminent.
Similar. What are your thoughts on idrive8? I was excited but seems like many against it
@@ryanlen2115 I got my '22 230 in April. I'm glad I got a '22 w/ the i7.
I probably would have bought it if it had i8 but I'm not a fam. It looks to much like an EV dash for me.
@@josephcitizen4195 now that I have mine, I actually love idrive8 and the shifter knob doesn’t bother me. The screen is so vibrant and the graphics are nice. I guess personal preference
@@ryanlen2115 The shifter know doesn't bother me. It's the 'lack' of a center stack type of dash that I don't care for. Personal preference, you're correct though.
How are you liking the car? I love mine, best daily driver I've ever had. Relatively cheap, outstanding mpg, and upscale enough for the girls I date.
@@josephcitizen4195 agree. Incredible car for the money. So smooth in comfort. That surprised me. Great MPG. I traded a stinger for this, same money but this so refined
The screen display has changed for 2023 and its base model has optional AWD.
Great review of a qwerty model.
I am really between this and a Z4 as a daily solo driver
best car i drove
I am 187cm... would I fit comfortably?
The ultimate daily. This car is really one of a kind in its segment. For people who want to grow up from an immature 86 to something that looks respectable yet still has some edge when you need it but you are not quite ready to move on to a sedan.
Awesome but lengthy still
I love idrive8, i feel like idrive7 is so outdated
He should buy a new BMW 2 series. Reward car manufacturers for making great driver’s cars.
The Gran Coupe is a glorified BMW Kia Forte GT x Dodge Dart.
how tall is this reviewr? you might think that would be pertinent info with all the talk about headroom, etc
6'-0" (183cm). I rode in the back of my 230i a couple of months ago for prob 15-20 min across town. Could not wait to get out. It sucked. Bad.
Looked and felt just like the vid.
Dear Cargurus Team, i like the 230i but believe that the m sport package should have been a standard. The 230i is advistised as a driver's car and having to pay another $6k to for all those specs is criminal. Additionally, I do agree with the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. For a car that cost almost $50k it should be included.
You obviously don't know BMW 😂
used to be a good thing when a car rode so well, you didnt know you were going fast...
You don’t need adaptive cruise control in a sporty car, isn’t it about the drive?
Throw all those drivers aids in the texting package into the trash bin.
Totally agree. Yet there's so many cry babies on UA-cam whining about lack of ACC on any car. They must be crappy lazy drivers
Nice car! But, yes, that MSRP for a base cant be found. I tried. Over 50K is the true base. In that case go with the 3 series.
Nope, 2 series coupe is the better car IMHO (M240i is brilliant), that is if you don’t need 4 doors, if you do need four doors then yes go straight to the 3 series, because the 2 series grand coupe sucks…
Are you looking at existing dealer inventory? Order one online without all the bells and whistles.
Also you won’t get an ELSD and double pot brimbo breaks in the 3 series for the same price. It really just comes down to if you want something a little more performance focused 2 or if you want the easy to live with 3 series.
@@galaman12001 Grand Coupe literally feels like a Kia to drive unless you go to the M235i, in which it becomes a Mini JCW with crappy looks
@@andrew22334455 yeah the 2 series grand coupe is awful.
BMW bargain at about $40k. Great fun to drive and easy on your bank account.
F22>G22
I bought this car for someone else and I got to say even in individual sport mode this car does not compare to my jeep wrangler (especially the mojito edition)
😂
Wtf. You win strangest comment on UA-cam
Digital display is WACK for a BMW
it's comical that Capt. Obvious bothers w/ review of rear seats. It's a 2 door sports car w/ rear cargo seats, get a mini van or sedan for your rear seat gyrations. The M240i produces 0-60 numbers close to 8 cly turbo & 12 cly supercars and it's a daily driver. Also, it's not a compact, but most are too fat to fit into it.
I hate adaptive cruise control - happy it is not on the car
The previous gen was much more attractive outside. BMW does much better with classic, palatable design; when they adhere to their roots with measured modernization. This exterior design is lacking in character by trying to be too modern/different, for me. I realize that some will appreciate this more cubic, forward, and masculine design, but I can’t help but wonder if they understand that this car is not going to appeal to as wide of an audience as the previous gen did, it having some classic BMW character on more than just the interior/split grill. I could be mistaken but I highly doubt this will sell more than the previous 2 series.
I'm definitely in the other camp. I was attracted to this model because of the exterior. I feel previous models look TOO ordinary, they don't stand out from our parent's sedans on the road.
Facts this car isn’t gonna age well, rear end looks terrible
@@icebruner yeah but a car is not its rear end design. There's much more to a car than 1/3 of its exterior design. Only a 8yo kid would give a definitive opinion based on looks alone (which are subjective). Facts.
an even BETTER car is the original 1 series, 135i.
and my rag top is just so much car and motor, it was a steal/bargain at 9,000.00 and only 68k on it.
@japanwatchconnection wait, what?
that is one of the better fronts. smaller grills and all.
newer ones are larger, more cromish and odder shaped.
VW Jetta gets well over 40 mpg on highway and 33 on streets EPA. Jetta actually beats 40 mpg comfortably on interstates.
@japanwatchconnection
He said this BMW gets better mileage than Jetta. Did you even watch that part?
Yeah but the Jetta is boring.
I believe he was talking about the 2.0 GLI Jetta and not the 1.5 TSI version which is the one that hits the 40/33 mpg numbers, the GLI and the 230i are around the same ballpark in the mpg numbers.
@japanwatchconnection agreed, but he did ask..
OMG!!!! A review of a sports car where the reviewer refers to his "mom" in the review.....lol
Hate the tach and speedo layout. They should both be round. And the motorized kidney vanes are a lame gimmick. Too much useless tech, IMO.

STiCK TO THE 240i WITH THE B58!!! NEVER BUY THE 4 BANGER!!!!!!!
RELIABILITY!!
@@thefullmonty4250 they are both equally reliable. Almost the exact same engine, one just has 2 more cylinders.
Needs a redesign
Compared to the original E21 that 2 Series is butt ugly.
Drives amazing, ugly af
Merc and Bmw are getting uglier and uglier, only Audi stays a same.
audi's look like shit since 2018
Then buy a used car. The rest of us would like to move forward.
@@postalpancho Every Merc in last 5years looks hideous, they could really learn a thing or two about exterior design from Peugeot.
