  • A lot of you are getting option 40 contracts. And a lot of you seem like you don't quite understand some of the fundamental differences between these two. I hope I may have cleared up any confusion you may have had about the two and which one is actually what you go to with an Option 40 contract.

Hell yeah. You know I want to be a Ranger so I take that motto to heart. I’ve started rucking and running everyday. Just being part of something better is all it really means. It’s not about doing the sexy operator stuff, it’s about being a team player. Being able to work with your team makes you a better leader. Sadly, I have a long way to go before I can enlist but that only means more time to work for what I love. Wish me luck! Rangers Lead The Way!

My son is tab and scroll 3rd battalion 75th Ranger. He's on his second deployed at the moment. The way it was for my son was just as he said. Basic, airborne, pre Rasp then Rasp. Then after his first deployment Ranger school. Ranger's do lead the way. They get little attention compared to Navy Seals but These young men are a elite force and train constant . They are some Bad Ass men!

Thank you. I wish I could take all the credit lol. But it takes a very different young man these days to decide to go work his ass off to be something in the military that few ever become and to go defend this great country of ours. It's rare and I salute and respect all these young men doing it. You know the average age in his class was 21.

When I was in, after airborne school they asked if we wanted to be a Ranger. I was a 12B. I said yes and they ripped my brand new airborne cover off my head and stomped on it. I throw my bag on the back of a truck and they made us run behind the truck from airborne school to the Ranger school. Then 3 weeks of complete misery began. The only goal, dont quit. We were treated like crap the entire time, we got about 3 hours of sleep a night but at the end you got a scroll and a new black cover. They asked you which of the three places you wanted to go and then "needs of the regiment". You were given the choice to stay your current MOS if they had a slot and you werent infantry. If not you became infantry. RIP an RASP are not the same thing at all. RIP was simply a 3 week gut check, they want to see how much crap they can put you through till you quit, whole purpose is to make you quit. If you completed it, they would send to a bat. Once at Bat you will be trained to do everything daily that you would do in Ranger school. Once you get promotable status you are put on a list for Ranger school. All E-5 and above have to get the qualification tab. Now say you go to Ranger school from regular Army you can request to be assigned to Bat but you be treated very differently till you are worthy of being there. Now RASP, Ranger Reg decided that they wanted to be like Special Forces and have a selection process so they could observe candidates for Ranger Bat. They increased the time frame and created course over just a gut check. Bat life is completely different than any other place. It is more like Marine Recon. I have seen PFCs put in charge of 1LT who came in after they went to Ranger school during summer break at college. When they finally got commissioned and were sent to Bat sometimes they were trained to be Rangers by lower ranking soldiers until they were up to speed. All you do is realworld train and deploy.

My father is USMA class of ‘66 when Ranger school was mandatory after graduation, not an option like it is now. If you didn’t pass the first time , you were finished. No second or third recycling throughout chances. Charlie Beckwith was the Camp Commander of the Ranger school back then. He trained the Cadre that put my father and his fellow classmates through the different phases of their training. When my father and his fellow classmates successfully completed the course, Beckwith personally pinned the Ranger tab on all of the men. After Ranger school he went to Fort Bragg Special Warfare School. After that he went to the Defense Language Institute at Fort Bliss and learned Vietnamese. After that he was sent to Vietnam in ‘68 as a young Infantry Captain. His generation are absolutely Rangers. It was a way of life for those men as well. The graduating class of ‘66 had the highest casualty rate out of West Point in Vietnam.

I take exception with RASP and RIP being the same thing. As someone that RIP'd into the regiment in 1992, it was really just a 3-4 week smoking that weeded out people that didn't have enough heart. RASP actually assesses skill building ability and adaptability. We were also not firmly part of JSOC in those days.

RASP was created to supplement the lack of training opportunities during GWOT. Basically, Ranger shows up with "some" skills. It was also required to get the new identifier. RIP on the other hand was designed to get rid of the WEAK men - period. There is clearly a difference in the type of men each program produced. I will tell you as a 90s Ranger myself and a RIP instructor 2001-2002, the 90s process was HARD and the men it produced was the hardest I have ever served with. That is not to say today's Rangers couldn't handle it, or the 90s Rangers couldn't handle RASP. Apples and Oranges. ***Even Ranger School today has changed, not ripping on women, but there is no way the amount of females that graduate today could stand a chance in the 90s Ranger School standards. This applies to an Option 4 contract (Jump School) as well.
This contract just guarantees you will go to Jump School but DOES NOT mean you are going to any ABN Unit unless you have it in your contract as well.
Meaning, you go through Jump School and get ABN Qualified then you can still end up in a leg unit that is not on Jump Status.

Plenty of time to get drunk & a little less in shape for it. From Jump School Graduation, their was no A.I.T.. Hell, an AIrborne Infantry Unit was A.I.T. every damn day... with all the advanced bells & whistles attached, year after enlisted year. Rank came quick if your desired efforts were applied. Went from Pfc. straight to ''Acting Jack'' i.e. wearing the buck sergeant stripes with only the Spec. 4 pay, within a year & a half. To hold onto those stripes, often came at the cost of volunteering to, or being volunteered to Recondo, or Ranger School. Anyway that's the way things rolled in my day! -former recondo sgt. Awesome Matt Ward《☆》Good luck with Your career. I had a buddy who was active duty U.S. Army helo crewchief Sp4 in my unit at Ft Benning Lawson Army airfield. He was probably the best fit guy in our unit. He managed to get a slot in Ranger school with recommendations from our chief pilot who is a tabbed Ranger Captain who went aviation after his Ranger tour with combat experience. My buddy started his Ranger school at Dahlonega Ga. Mountain Ranger camp. He was there about 3 weeks before he was released on a medical for trenchfoot. He came right back to normal duty in our unit with a P.T. profile until his feet could heal properly. The door was left open for him to go back to Ranger school but I ETSed out before it ever happened. I remember him telling about trying to put money in a tree thinking it was a vending machine LOL. His only mistake that I could see was being dependent on dip like Scoal & Copenhagen. I believe dip was one of the few amenities that were allowed in Ranger school but You're probably better off without it ☻

Great video! I would like your thoughts on something. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D) served 8 years in the United States Army, during his campaign with tv commercials, interviews, and speeches, he always said "I served as an Airborne Ranger in the United States Army". But, John Bel Edwards in my opinion did not "serve" as an Airborne Ranger because he only went to Ranger School and never RASP (75th Ranger Regt.). He did however "serve" as a commander of a rifle company in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. To this day his official Bio on the Louisiana Governors web page states "Governor Edwards graduated in 1988 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. The governor served eight years as an "Airborne Ranger on active duty with the United States Army" and commanded a rifle company in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Now why would he say this? I believe it was a campaign strategy for votes! The campaign was in 2015 and unless you just woke up from a 40 year coma, Joe Blow civilian voter, from just watching Hollywood movies, views Rangers, Special Forces, Navy SEALS, Green Berets, and DELTA Force, as bad ass American Heroes killing bad guys! What say you? P.S. Thank you for your service!

Gov Edward’s should have known better. He is not and never has been a ranger. Now earning the tab and becoming Ranger qualified is a hell of an achievement but he’s not an actual Ranger. He served in the 82nd Airborne. He was a paratrooper and that’s awesome too. He should have been proud of being a paratrooper and left it at that. Gov Edward’s absolutely deserves to be dragged for claiming to be a Ranger

For anyone worried about not being able to get an option 40 before they ship, I completely understand I was in the same boat! I couldn’t get one and was super anxious to ship so I ended up enlisting as regular 11x hoping to pick it up in OSUT just know that it is very possible but I worked my ass off for years to prepare for RASP and when I shipped I could already score a 300+ I was gonna make sure I was gonna get RASP, so come week 9 the Ranger recruiter came (at this point I already had airborne in my contract which in my experience is harder to get than RASP they had fewer slots at the time but some companies hand them out like candy so experiences may vary) and I was able to secure my Option 40 just make sure you meet and exceed the standards before coming in the Army 300+ pt score gt score of 110+ and you should be set up to get an option 40 especially since Regiment is hurting for dudes especially low density MOS’s in the least get airborne and you can pick it up in Airborne school the Ranger recruiter came in person the 1st week of airborne to recruit guys there just some advice for yall

Well, I graduated from Ranger school in 1982 as a Marine. We didn’t quite get the zeal that many Army students had for “ the Tab “ a frequent question asked: why are you going through this course, if you can’t wear the Ranger Tab? The Army, in my opinion, invests too much stock in Tabs, scrolls, patches, insignias, badges and the various Berets. From my understanding, Ranger school was developed to continue the legacy of the WWII Rangers by training leaders in small unit tactics and “ Ranging “ I mean the school predated the 75th Reg by what, 24 years. Graduates were known as Ranger qualified. The Army itself is the source of the confusion between “ real “ Rangers and Ranger school graduates. Just to keep it real,.. being a NCO or above without that Tab, while serving in the 75th, I’ve been told, is frowned on. An easy fix and is to get rid of the Ranger Tab and rename the School,.. if it’s just a leadership course.

    • @SuicidePar
      @SuicidePar 5 років тому

Agreed. I went to the Nasty Guard after my four years in the Marines and the army sucks the dick of those with that tab. I was deployed to Iraq twice and saw actual combat as a Marine but it didn't mean anything compared to that guy who passed that leadership school even if he hadn't deployed. It boggled my mind. However, I've met some real Rangers with the scroll patch and they despise those who have tabs! hahaha

It has changed some since my time (1986), but It was called R.I.P. (Ranger Indoctrination Program) the premise was the same. It got the volunteering soldier ready for the life of Ranger Regiment. As a special note not all Regimental Rangers have earned the Tab, they still have to earn the right to go to the Ranger School as there are only so many slot available in a given class. I myself earned the Ranger Scroll (3rd Batt) but didn't earn the Ranger Tab in1990 while in the 82D Airborne.

Ranger school was established during the Vietnam Conflict to train officers in the way of Rangers. After WWII the Ranger Bn’s were disbanded and weren’t reactivated until the 70’s when the 1st r Ranger Bn was formed in Ft Benning then moved to Ft Stewart then on to Hunter Army Air Field.

It sounds very much like we have here in 🇬🇧...in any branch of the British military you can do P company (paratrooper) earn the maroon beret and the all arms commando course (Royal Marines) and earn the green beret however unless you enlist in the Royal Marines or British Army paratrooper you’re not really them...

But walk around the ranger regiment without a Ranger tab, you salute everyone that has one no matter your rank. At least that how it was in the 90's.

CORNDOG AKA JDOG You can't plan to join delta, delta picks a handful of people and is only a 5% graduate rate, just stay in your top shape and make good decisions, focus on Ranger right now, and see if you enjoy it, HOOAH!

Keep in mind that 5 mile run at Ranger School is tougher than individual run. It will likely be over uneven terrain along with smooth pavement. It will also be when you are not fresh due to prolonged food and sleep deprivation.

Europa H2O Alien I'm planning to go to delta headquarters and renouncing myself as Commander and then I'm going to fight the intergalactic space demons then join their dimension and have the power of God to exterminate all life forms on other planets and wipe out all intelligent alien life forms until humans are the only intelligent humanoid lifeforms, I can currently run the entire tour de France 10 times, and then after that warmup I swim across the Atlantic ocean at mach 500 speed and can jump to the ozone layer. Any workout tips to get better would be appreciated!

Being in 75th you can always get kicked off the island. Having the tab is for life.

    • @joeye7518

If you were on the 75th then you have deployed which means you keep the scroll for your career on the right shoulder. I've never meant a Ranger that hasn't deployed. However, I have known a bunch of tabs who pretend they are actual rangers. They are not. All that means is that they completed a leadership course essentially. Only scrolls know what it's like to be a ranger.

@@4agony777 , depends on how long your training is(BCT/OSUT/AIT/Selection. Your contract starts after you graduate all of your qualification trainings. Short answer, the military wants their time back
