The name of the show is Bad Lads Army and it is a reality show. They are testing if modern kids could handle 1950s style National Service Basic Training. The first season, Lad's Army was focused on volenteers but in later seasons it was criminals - adding the "Bad Lads" into the mix. Series 1 (Lads Army) and Series 2 (Bad Lads Army) are the best ones. Officer Class lost its focus and Bad Lads Army Extreme sadly played up the dramatics. Do give the series a watch if you can find it; it is well worth your time - especially Series 1 & 2.
Jonathan Lundkvist personally S3 officer class is my favourite because I think they had a great balance of everything including the training and good characters with a lot of good and memorable moments. I have no interest in S4 though, can’t remember anyone from it
With a name like Nauyokas, I reckon he must be Greek. The Greeks smash plates and anything else made out of china. So wasteful. Shockingly stupid. Why have Greeks in the British Army when they're like that? Time to send them back to Athens or thereabouts.
This man does so much for charity. He also has a terrible childhood. But here is...in front of the camera, and behind, trying to do the best for the troubled and misfits. Great respect. The amount of shit he gets...if only they knew!
I know I only pick the qoute-able moments but if one watches the entire show, they do find he has a heart of gold and that the entire 1950s act is just acting.
My dear departed Dad used to have a good chuckle at this program, he did his national service in the Army in '50 and said he'd love to have drill instructors like these as they were 'soft and cuddly' and not even close to - and I quote.....' Psychotic Vicious Rotwilers' he had.
Fast forward a series with Cpl Murray: "What would you do with this mug if you were me?" "Smash it." "Go on then." *SMASH* "Personally, I would've just cleaned it."
The point about mugs is a 50s thing they brought back for the show. If broken, the recruit has to pay for a new one. As such, the NCOs take every chance to try and reduce the amount of Beer available for the recruits by docking their pay by breaking their mugs.
Corporal Nauyokas is one of those guys who shows the utmost respect to those when they have earned it and will always provide a shoulder to lean on should one require it. However, he is NOT someone to get on the wrong side of and will show no hesitation of standing his ground and showing zero tolerance for any nonsense should such a situation arise. He has been added to my list of idols.
'Nookey' lives in my village. I've seen him around a few times, he's a genuinely nice guy to speak to, always has 5 minutes for a chat. I loved Bad Lads Army, so many toe rags, so little time.
Everyday life in the US Army... also they like to have us dig our own grave! My battle buddy left his weapon while we were digging fighting positions...subsequently the drill sgt killed me amd then my battle had to bury me... was a fucking blast, let me tell u!
As an American I find it very amusing that the recruits openly make eye contact and interact with the instructor in such a non-robotic way. Cpl Nauyokas is a classy man.
I find it rather weird that in US they won't make eye contact. I think it's kinda important in order to focus on what the instructor/superior is saying. In our country there is a compulsiory military service and there our instructors often ordered us to make and eye contact on him even if we were standing on a formation. Often if recruits just stood there looking at the horizon while the instructor walked back and fort explaining things, many of the recruits easily started to drift their toughts or focus to something else.
Also forcing a subordinate to not look at you when they speak to you, just feels unnecessarily demeaning. Or if not, it just gives a feeling that the superior is threatened by your eye contact. Eye contact is just a basic element of human communication.
You can tell he really cared about those boys, even the Brown twins. He went out his way to try and help Luke but then realised there was no point, he was too far gone and would only be pissing into the wind.
4:09 "...watch a professional..." LOL! Though far less fun for those who had made their beds! But hey, some bright spark decided that tipping the beds was the way to go...

However, I would never have been a successful as I am today if that guy didn't straighten my life out. So..I really am glad for a man like this taking the time to train us.
Why? Some young people could indeed do with a dose of this, but there are many others, who have no interest in joining the military and who already possess self-respect and self-discipline, who would gain no benefit from this whatsoever, and (in some cases) for whom this could even be actively detrimental. You can't make generalisations like that. Edit: If you meant those who have been kicked out of school (expelled) for their behaviour, then yes, couldn't agree more.
I remember my basic training days, if I ever get round to joining a drill sergeant unit I’ll have to remember to make privates talk to their equipment.
