Great stuff very impressive. Just one noobie question, for this short film and generally any film, what “movie” autofocus mode works best for Fuji? Havent played around with video much yet so the only focus mode I am familiar with is single focus and the occassional AFC for tracking kids on sugar rush. I reckon video is an entirely different thing. Manual works best perhaps?
@@giandeguzman6402 thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Tbh, with most movies I'd use manual focus and either pull focus or keep the same distance between subject and camera. You can see my camera man missed a few shots (lens was at f0.95) it's not the end of the world but yes...manual focus is generally the best practice. Auto focus could work in some situations if it was a head shot tracking on a gimbal or something like that but not really advised. My next X-M5 video will look at the AF a bit more because I took need to know what this camera is full capable of.
@@josefilmspvd thank you Jose, much appreciated. Yes 6.2k, 10bit, 200mbps in camera footage. I was going to test braw but tbh I'll never use VA so didn't bother.
I think this camera is phenomenal for the price. But doesn’t the X-S20 have all the same features plus IBIS and a EVF for photos? I’m seeing them used in the states for around $1100. Do you see any advantages the X-M5 has over the X-S20? Lovely work by the way. Curious to know what the last overhead/lying down shot was filmed on? The grade and lighting looked great.
Hi, yes it's fantastically priced. From what I've read, the XS20 could be a better option if it's your main camera but I've been downsizing for the last year. I sold my 2 x FX6 and my fx30's and now have FX3, ZVE1 so I was looking for something very small, inexpensive with good features that I can use out and about plus the ability to potentially use for pro work. The last shot was the zve1 mounted on pole attached to ceiling. I bounced a single cob light up to the ceiling and it's very bright. In resolve I use the free VENICE luts from Sony to convert and put a power window around the edge to darken ( a vignette).

Interesting video and approach to reviewing the X-M5. Im curious to check other videos of yours. Will subscribe. I wish you tackled a bit the audio capabilities of the camera. Seems to me that it has the multi-shoe? Meaning the Tascam XLR should work fine with it and allow 4 audio channels? Also, would have loved to know regarding the fan, it seems it can have it just like the XS20 and the XH2S. But anyway, Im happy I watched this video. Thanks 🌻
Thanks for the comment and yes, it's definitely a different kind of review but I usually have one single goal when looking at new cams...is there a potential to use this for pro work as a backup. I did buy it for content creation and micro shorts but it's nice to feel confident if one of your others break and this camera is great. Most of the audio you heard in the video was recorded directly into camera (you can see my mic in some shots) I just bought the fan today so will definitely explore more in the future as I have a couple of tips to share.
epic movie mate. been looking into this camera since some chap on the group mentioned it and it instantly stuck with me above all other suggestions. question is whether I should just sell all my M gear and move on entirely on the M-X5, as I don't really have use for 2 cameras. love the freedom raw gives, no doubt about it, but this camera seems like it does not suffer from the lack of it and offers so much more.
Thank you brother 🙌🏾 honestly...I love the Eos-M and the OG and made more videos with them that I can count but the X-M5 is a no brainer. You're getting a lot of camera for the money but none of the limitations of the others. Although I've slimmed down my gear, I still have a lot of cams but I do not regret this purchase one bit. I actually may sell the ZVE1 just so I don't feel guilty lol Think about it some more but I highly recommend it.
@@AltCine Cheers then. Been also looking at a camera everyone seems to hate - the Lumix G100, which depreciated severely due to that, and even if it's just 8 bits, the sparse footage I dug up seems fine and certainly has quite a bit of cinematic potential. I mean, we are talking a 250 quid body here, really tempted to give it a try for shits and giggles.

@@robertluxamafreethinker 😁 yes sir, you're right. It actually feels like a gift. Had to wait ages for my pre-order but it was definitely worth it. It really feels like a modern BMPCC OG.
non ha senso riggare la xm5 quando ci sono prodotti nettamente superiori come la xs20 e xh2s che usate oggi si trovano a prezzi inferiori del resto della attrezzatura per fare quel rig
Hi, I did say I wouldn't rig it and keep it small. Also the good thing about rigging a small camera is that you can have it small for travel, stealth filming or rig it out for slightly more serious productions.
@@shueibdahir yes it's great man. I went to the store to check it out and after 20mins of playing with it, I put in a pre-order. I still have FX3 and I'd just bought the ZVE1 but I saw immediately that this camera has the sauce... it's kinda like a modern BMPCC OG.
@@AltCine It's not that your shots are too tight. For me. A camera that small must be paired with a similarly sized lens so that I can toss it into my bag. That's one of the reasons why the EOSM and the Eos M6 Mark II have been used heavily by myself simply because of the 22 mm f2. It just makes it so easy to pick up and take with me. With Sony, I've got the 20 mm 2.8. I know Fuji has the 27 mm 2.8. Lumix doesn't really have an option of this size on the l mount. Canon's RF has the 28 mm 2.8 pancake. Micro 4/3 has the 14 mm. Unfortunately, they haven't made any updated small micro 4/3 bodies with delayed the newer tech. Generally, these pancakes are known to give between a 35 to 40 mm on full frame. Couple that with and it's the 360 go 3 for wide angles, and you've got yourself an excellent combo.
I wish I could have, Fuji took sooo long in sending out my pre-order. I had to upgrade from body only to kit lens pack just to get it before Christmas 😅
@@davidlevinson2460 thank you, I'm glad I could help. I think I'm going to sell my zve1 next year too. I only bought it because I got it cheap and thought it would make a good travel cam. Tbh, for this film it wasn't really needed and I took it off after a couple of shots.

I bought this purely because it's high spec, pocketable and costs far less than zve1 or S9.
S9 is great though, very impressed and the photos we took were insanely good.
Great video, i love the scene you created! Is it 10 bit out of camera?
@@josefilmspvd thank you Jose, much appreciated. Yes 6.2k, 10bit, 200mbps in camera footage.
I was going to test braw but tbh I'll never use VA so didn't bother.
@ man it hard to tell with you man, you can anything look good
I just found you my friend.
Amazing work. Of course subscribed.
Keep going.
A photographer from Greece.
Greetings.

Awesome, thank you so much. I really appreciate it 🙏🏾
Great lil camera
So good man.
Loved every second of your film. Luther was one of my favourite shows when it came out. I am working with several fujis in various rig scenarios. The x-h2s is the main one right now. Feel free to get in touch to chat about all things fuji going cinema with small cameras. It might be time to replace my x-s20 in my 'cine x small'....
@@fauland_photography thank you brother, Luther was so good man, really enjoying that series. Please if you have the time, could you send me a message on Instagram @creatorcole23.
Would love to chat about a few things from users more experienced with the brand 🙌🏾
Solo film making awesomeness… Really enjoyed the film
@@DoublewideCinema yes sir, it's perfect for that and so much more. Thank you so much.
Most of the audio you heard in the video was recorded directly into camera (you can see my mic in some shots)
I just bought the fan today so will definitely explore more in the future as I have a couple of tips to share.
@ thanks for the clarifications n reply, keep creating!
Thanks for the info
epic movie mate. been looking into this camera since some chap on the group mentioned it and it instantly stuck with me above all other suggestions. question is whether I should just sell all my M gear and move on entirely on the M-X5, as I don't really have use for 2 cameras. love the freedom raw gives, no doubt about it, but this camera seems like it does not suffer from the lack of it and offers so much more.
I actually may sell the ZVE1 just so I don't feel guilty lol
Think about it some more but I highly recommend it.
The like happened at DCI Arthur 👍
It seems Uncle Fuji has gifted a very handy toy to the filmmaking family community☝🏽😍
Since the BMPCC Original gift from BM, we never have something so interesting like that, honestly.
@@robertluxamafreethinker 😁 yes sir, you're right. It actually feels like a gift. Had to wait ages for my pre-order but it was definitely worth it.
It really feels like a modern BMPCC OG.
just Wow !
Thanks Steve 🙌🏾
non ha senso riggare la xm5 quando ci sono prodotti nettamente superiori come la xs20 e xh2s che usate oggi si trovano a prezzi inferiori del resto della attrezzatura per fare quel rig
Hi, I did say I wouldn't rig it and keep it small. Also the good thing about rigging a small camera is that you can have it small for travel, stealth filming or rig it out for slightly more serious productions.
Wow that’s quite impressive. Definetly underestimated this camera
@@shueibdahir yes it's great man. I went to the store to check it out and after 20mins of playing with it, I put in a pre-order. I still have FX3 and I'd just bought the ZVE1 but I saw immediately that this camera has the sauce... it's kinda like a modern BMPCC OG.
did you use gimbal on the film?
@@henzordonez yeah in some shots. The gaffer had to shoot those shots for me.
@@AltCine Gaffer is how you refer to your sister? 😂
Great work
@@nisarali4258 thank you
@ I owned a few Fuji camera and so far XM5 is my favt one to use daily specially pairing with Viltrox Air series lenses.

I knew you was my dawg for a reason, Edwards Gang lol
@@Kxng5Jeevy ahhh you're Edwards 😁 respect my bro 🙌🏾 are you from the states? Most of my dad's family are there.
@AltCine lol nice, yeah I'm from NY. Most of my family is from Jamaica tho .
At the 32nd Mark and all I got to say is that you got to slap on that 27 mm pancake
Are the shots too tight?
I'm looking for a wider lens than the 35mm I used for the film. I'm looking for something that ends up as a 35mm FF equivalent.
@@AltCine The 27 will probably end up closer to a 40 mil.
Bruh... you couldn't have released this video BEFORE I bought an A7 IV?
I wish I could have, Fuji took sooo long in sending out my pre-order. I had to upgrade from body only to kit lens pack just to get it before Christmas 😅
Beautiful! Been considering trading my a6400 for the X-M5. I think you've convinced me. Thanks.
@@davidlevinson2460 thank you, I'm glad I could help. I think I'm going to sell my zve1 next year too. I only bought it because I got it cheap and thought it would make a good travel cam. It's made me some money but that's not why I bought it.
The Fuji ticks so many boxes and it's just so damn affordable.
👍

FX3 “top end cinema camera”? Nah mate, the FX3 is about the lowest end “Cinema camera” you can get!

@@! LOL Focus issue
Hey, if your constantly bobbing, weaving and dancing then your the one with the issues not Sony. All jokes aside, Awesome video what you did in the video and your set up was great but the camera doesn’t do it justice. The DJI Pocket 3 is better than that Fuji.
@@Sjaubi-qf6wd my friend, it's a test... nothing more.
You're wrong about the DJI being better, not gonna lie to you
Immediately sub🔥Great review, mate! Thanks! And really looking forward to your next X-M5 review video! I'm worried about overheat issue🥲
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.
I just bought the Fuji fan used on WEX for £79 as overheating is one of my concerns too. They do have the 4kLP mode that helps with longer recording but I probably would recommend getting some kind of fan (even a cheap third party) for longer run times.
Tbh, for this film it wasn't really needed and I took it off after a couple of shots.
@@AltCine Your feedback is extremely helpful and exactly what I needed! I really appreciate it!
Yes, I did purchase third-party fans from Ulanzi, but the one from Fujifilm can be securely screwed onto the camera, which should definitely be a proper solution.
This review is genius and sincere. You take viewers to understand how the camera will perform in the real world. Plus with cinematic short film. Smart man. But because of your video, we’ll have to wait longer for the camera 😅😅😅
