@@thefilmalliance I hope Nikon launch a Z30II. That would be a great comparison. Now the Z50II is near the price, but is a different kind of camera. Anyway a XM5 vs Z50II is a comparison I would watch for sure.

I think so too but still bought this sony bc I shopped in a physical store and I tried it. It sounds like Fuji M5 is lighter, but Sony zve10ii feels even lighter to me (may be the material and the grip). I have a fuji xt30ii and love fuji, but I feel that sony is smoother with taking videos and feels so much lighter than all the fujis
@thefilmalliance Indeed. I mean I wish I could have a camera like that growing up, having the capability to do anything at a moderate price. Students would love that! On the other hand, customers and employers may not be happy if my camera have trouble focusing under low light or can't keep up without changing batteries, and the ZVE10II would save me the headace since it's a somewhat more "matured" video camera. As of writing this comment I am currently in Barbados with the Fuji XM5 and a Lumix S511 and i haven’t used the Lumix. I say this to say that the XM5 is the best value for money. I would recommend that you try to get one, really fun cameras, super specked out. Trust me
I think its pretty clear that if you are a video focused creator, then the ZV-E10 II is the way to go. It blows the Fuji especially when it comes to low light recording. I can immediately tell that Camera B is the Sony when I saw how it handles low light compared to Camera A. However, if you're a photography first creator, then i think the Fuji edges it out a little bit more. Especially with the Fuji film simulations that everyone's raving about.
XM5’s colors are more attractive than ZVE10 II’s. However, reliable autofocus can be a good reason for many people to choose ZVE10 II. Personally I would buy neither of them. IBIS is a deal breaker, so I would choose Sony A6500 over these two.
Excellent detailed comparison. Think its hands down Sony. AF & customization is just way better with Sony. And the auto modes make everything super user friendly with excellent results. Hello! I watched this whole video on one breath. This is one of the most particular and on point reviews I’ve ever watched. Thank you for your hard work As it comes to cameras.. I’m still indecisive. Then I was completely lost with all of Fujifilm and Sony cameras out there. Somewhere in my thoughts I’ve decided I wanted to buy Sony 6700 but I was afraid that this camera is to much for me to handle with my next to 0 knowledge of how cameras work, of their settings and so on (I have a will and excitement to learn but stil) + I’m afraid that this camera won’t be small enough to bring it with me everywhere I go with the right lenses. So I was recommended Sony zv-e10 and found your video. I liked Fuji probably a bit more when it comes to photography and since it’s my main focus (I’m not interested in vlogging whatsoever, more in a classic video recording of surroundings) I’m lost again. Fuji is great but I probably want a viewfinder cuz often I’ll be not in a deem lighted environment but at direct sunlight.. Maybe you’ll be able to help me out with some recommendations? I feel like after this video I can trust you with your knowledge and opinions I hope I wrote my thoughts clearly enough for you to understand, idk why I didn’t use my first language and translator for smooth sentences but here I am 😂 Thank you in advance, you’re doing an amazing work
Great review as always: May I ask you mean the colour cast in zve10II footage results from the sony's own kit lens? If so, we should go with zve10II body only and look for another better lens?
Still got my first version of ZV-E10 as a walk around camera (besides my FX3 and A7IV - for work) and its a little beast... paired with a Yongnuo 16 f1.8 or a 35 f1.4 GM lens and the quality is still amazing, and it so compact, the only issue is the non existing IBIS, that's the only reason I am thinking to sell it and get the A6700.
Great comparison. After arguing in my head a lot, decided to go with the xm5 as it has the more balanced approach. And bought a prime with the extra 200 bucks I saved by choosing it. Sony seems bit struggling with pricing & what features should not be included in Sony zv-e10 ii so people would not consider a6700 as an option for just 300$ more.
Awesome comparison, the high quality production value and cinematic style in all your videos is the best on UA-cam!!! I just bought the original Sony ZV-E10 last week thanks to all your in-depth reviews. I couldn't justify the price jump from the first to second version. Now I'm wondering if I should return the ZV-E10 and get an X-M5 as it is only a bit more expensive. I will be using it primarily for video but looking to get into some photography as well. Thanks again for all that you do!
You’ve got a great set up with the ZV-E10 and I am so happy you found value in my reviews. As far as switching over to Fuji, you’ll need X-mount lenses and new batteries. Is that in your budget? If so, id say make the leap. Sometimes the best creativity comes from shaking things up
Great comparison! I think I'll end up going with the ZV-E10 II. I film action figure reviews on a tripod so I mainly need good color reproduction and reliable autofocus when moving the figures around and showing the small details. Plus I'm frequently removing the SD card to take it to the pc for editing which I think could get a bit annoying on the X-M5.
Excellent comparison as always ❤ I don't know if you have done this before, but I would love to see a comparison video between the Lumix S9 and the Sony ZV-E1.
Been looking for a point and shoot cam for travel to upgrade from my usual iphone shots. I'd say 80%/20% in favor of photography. I was gifted a ZVE10 II recently, unaware of the camera's strengths and weaknesses. And so after some research, I learned that the sony is primarily for video. Im no professional nor do I aspire to get into advanced photography; i just want a reliable point and shoot cam that'll take better photos than my iphone. My needs are basic, maybe some action/moving shots occasionally, but mostly normal pose and shoot, or slow moving subjects. So my question is, would you advise me to keep the ZVE10 II, like will it be good enough for my use case, or sell then purchase an XM5 (if this is better for photography?
No just get a good lens for it you be good ! If you really want professional fotos then yes sell and buy something else but you can still choose I raw and edit in Lightroom for professional looking fotos
@ the ZV-E1 looks too grainy my g9 looks better but can’t hold focus. The lumix system provides 10x more with a smoother interface. Sony looks garbage this is the worst image quality ever indoors. I bought Sony for low light and it’s a joke
@ I have a deal to trade my ZV-E1 for an S9 Do you have any words to the wise I require the least grain and Good AF The zv-E1 has been really grainy for me
Really great comparison! I chose Fuji (specifically the X-E4 because of the stills output) Quit sony after using them since 2012, starting from the Nex-6! Could care less about AF performance since I mainly use manual lenses anyways.
Great video as always. I almost picked up the X-M5 but X-S20 was on sale making them almost the same price so I ended up pick it instead. Love it so far even though the AF is a bit slow compare to Sony, still great product, hopefully future firmware update would improve it
@ yeah X-S20 was on sale and also Fuji gives $150 cash back making the X-S20 about $109 more than the X-M5 😬 If only Sony A6700 had the same offer I would have pick it up in stead, low budget problem 😭
Which camera do i buy for clients content creation? Sony ZV E10 M2 has most points, but Fuji XM5 has open gate shooting, which allows me to shoot vertical abd horizontal at the same time making my workflow easy, thats the strongest reason for me to consider Fuji, but is it worth it? So far i was ok with shooting most content vertical format, going with the sony that too will go on, what do you suggest?
@thefilmalliance thanks for the reply, and what do you think about the open gate ? Is that a big deal? Or it can be dealt with ? I feel a DJI ronin 3 mini with native vertical can solve the stabilization and verticle challenge, but at a time, either vertical or horizontal only. What do you think?
As always, really good review. Personally I ordered the XM-5, because it's more compact, 6k open gate, mechanical shutter for photos, cheaper and I think it looks better as well (not that that matters though lmao). However, there is two questions I have which not a single review on UA-cam has answered yet: 1. Which one has the better rolling shutter performance when it comes to video? 2. When used as a webcam (e.g for streaming hours at a time), how do they compare when it comes to overheating?
I love small cameras, that's the reason i ditched Nikon (I still think Nikon have the best colors and overall rendering image). I have Sony now because the small full frame bodies and small lenses. But always looking at Fuji because of how Fuji makes the images feel "real". The Fujis have weak IR filter, that's one of the reasons for the magenta tint. Just slap an IR filter in front of your lens and that's it. A lot of high end cinema cameras have weak IR filters on the sensor too and there are reasons for that. The Fuji log video with your Sony grading on it looks perfect. The Sony "yellow" near the sun looks disgustingly greenish, the Fuji looks perfect.
That’s a great point about the IR filter, I didn’t know that. I’ll have to try one out. Could you believe how similar the log footage looked before the grade? Do you think that’s to the sensors manufacturing?
@thefilmalliance Josh Sattin made a video here in UA-cam about the Fuji XH2S IR pollution. Is clear when you use ND filters that haven't IR filtering, so you cut other light but let the IR pass. The blacks looks dark magenta, but with an IR filter that's solved. Other brands like Sony or Canon have strong IR filters and no matter what you do, no IR light goes to the sensor. You are right, the log files looks similar, but the difference is clear after the grading. I think sensor manufacturing have little to do with final image, even for different technology like CCD vs CMOS there isn't difference at pure data level. The major differences are the filters, microlensing, and everything is on top the sensor, before the sensor. And most of all, the in camera processing. Even raw files have some sort of processing.
Both great cameras for that travel type market. Both jam packed with features but also missing things and having large compromises, 1x card slot, no IBIS, no viewfinder. Sony missing a joystick and Fuji missing that shutter dial. Once you pop the gripping the Fuji it’s no longer pocket friendly. It begs the question to me, is it easier to just buy a used A7 iii for the same price which covers these things. I love the weight and the apsc line has some great lenses that are small and compact, but I think I’m still holding out for one that has a joystick and all the other missing features. I think the a6700 comes close but there’s no joystick on that. Saying this though 2x card slots, is overkill when you think how many times it has come in useful but if you are a pro you can’t take the chance. Overall both are great I’m glad both companies are releasing these lines and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next. Thanks be quick question can you externally record and internally at the same time on the Fuji? Much love for the channel man.
Hey Paul, thanks for the comment. All very insightful. You are schooled up on both of these cameras. I appreciate it. As far as the dual recording, I do not know because I’m not a live streamer. If I ever hook it up to do a live stream, I’ll have to test it out and let you know
@thefilmalliance I shoot with 5 cameras 4 zv e10 and 1 zv e1, in hlg3. Because zv e10 only have 8 bit video. I bought and sell 6700 because strange hlg colors, it do not match
@@thefilmalliance there is no s-log 2 in new cameras and best profile for multicam with 8 bit cameras is hlg. Maybe you can check hlg profile in Sony zv e10 ii?
Great video, I was impressed! However when it comes to fuji vs sony there's nothing surprising about which one I'd choose. I was gonna give Sony a chance again, but even at the beginning of the video in the camera A vs camera B pictures it's painstakingly obvious that the greenish ones are from the sony camera, and it's been like that for more than a decade. No grip size is going to convince me to go back to unusable jpegs out of camera.
I really appreciate that feedback. Thanks for the insight. You have a good eye with those greenish sony colors. I guess get a cage for the Fuji X-M5 and you will be all set
the biggest downfall of the xm5 in my opinion because I have it is the record button it records in auto when you press it and there is no option to change settings which to me is an issue because I would like to record video in any setting I have
fuji images always have soul in them straight out of the cameras, they are for who shoot casually and want the best from the cameras, sony is really for the pros who can edit well.
Not in the market for either camera (I own enough cameras from this generation😂) but fascinating video. Both beer impressive for the price. I like having a EVF and bigger battery
@thefilmalliance no, But l saw his comment and l was sure you would respond. I want to buy a6700 l hope lm making a good choice. I would be happy to speak to you on a personal level lm in Africa and l really need to take my work to another level
What I really don't get is how come Sony is still dragging their heels at supporting in-camera raw conversion. This may sound like a silly request, but when you are out int he street and want to share some photos or play with the photos to see what you can do preparing mentally what you will do with each, I find this a great feature. Of all the manufacturers, the last one remaining with no in-camera raw converter is Sony. Come on Sony! Anyhow, to me the XM5 also wins simply for being small which I prefer for street. And the smaller "fujicrhome" lenses. But again, that's just for me/to me.
so far I do like it but with my primary body being Panasonic and shooting mostly canon in the past, the menu system is a lot to learn. Still trying to customize it to my liking
I tried xm5 and my experience was pretty bad. I am a Sony user and I wanted to try XM 5 as my travel camera and here is my experience: if you give this camera to someone who is not a pro to take a photo of you they won't be able to do that, with Sony you can just set it up and explain how to catch the focus and that's it, with this camera its impossible. The autofocus is so terrible, oh my god, it felt like some camera from ancient time could not focus on anything, capturing in low light is terrible, video is awful, the dial , the roller is so difficult to spin, very uncomfortable, the camera top is plastic feels cheap and not in reality looks aesthetic. I was very disappointed and returned it. It is better to get S9 with 18-40 as a travel camera, will try that one. But Sony zv e10 gonna beat the shit out of the XM5, I don't think they are comparable.
I'm ready to leave Sony because Sony can't allow higher than 4K recording because of their fake limitations to protect their cinema cameras. They're so lame and fake, they can't even allow 4K DCI. Without fake limitations, Fujifilm, Nikon, and Panasonic are allowed to walk all over Sony. Sony isn't even allowed to respond competitively. This is a very bad situation. If this continues, I'll be complaining about 4K for an entire decade. I've had enough of this. I want to be able to do basic stuff like punch in on my 6K recorded @ 16mm. I want to do that because it's utilitarian functional stuff I'm trying to do. It's not some film maker elitist thing. Sony stopped being a leader 5 years ago, and it's all because of some artificial market tiering.
@thefilmalliance Fujifilm is very good for cinematic shots and also best for random clicks. I am a Canon camera user but I like Fujifilm too, so in future I will definitely shift to Fujifilm.
@thefilmalliance explain? What is to be explained? Ponder over it. Metal to metal against concrete or asphalt at a height of at least 5’8” with at least a lens. A cage will never protect the camera.
I'm sorry, but your handling (form factor) comparison is honestly laughable. You're over-gripping the X-M5. Just curl your pinky and ring fingers underneath it, and you'll be able to hold it steadily and securely. Or just pinch it with your thumb, forefinger, and middle finger.
@@thefilmalliance No, but I've used old slab style (gripless) cameras from the 70's with heavy glass, and the handling is the same. On a super heavy lens, you'd be supporting it via holding the lens more than anything.

@ yeah X-S20 was on sale and also Fuji gives $150 cash back making the X-S20 about $109 more than the X-M5 😬
If only Sony A6700 had the same offer I would have pick it up in stead, low budget problem 😭
What a find, WOW. Good job man
J'ai le x-s20 et l'autofocus est super rapide. Il faut le mettre à jour chef. Et je prendrai le m5 aussi car c'est le même capteur
I’d say go with the ZV-E10 II because of Sony Emount. A lot of options when it comes to lenses
I’m just wondering, what would wind me up more, having that silly film dial on the Fuji or having no PASM dial on the Sony!
If this is needed compared to Nikon Z50ii, what are your thoughts.
That would be a great comparison. Okay, I’ll look into it
Suggest camera between Sony zv e10 and Sony Alpha a6600 for photography and videography
What lenses do you own? What will you be shooting?
@thefilmalliance sigma 30 mm f 1.4 plz suggest
fuji takes the cake 200$ less for a very similar package but shoots 6k and records in RAW.
That is a big difference! For sure. But what about autofocus?
@@thefilmalliance the autofocus to me is good enough but Sony will always be better. but to me that doesn't justify 200$ and missing 6k and raw.
I agree with you Xavier
As always, really good review. Personally I ordered the XM-5, because it's more compact, 6k open gate, mechanical shutter for photos, cheaper and I think it looks better as well (not that that matters though lmao). However, there is two questions I have which not a single review on UA-cam has answered yet:
1. Which one has the better rolling shutter performance when it comes to video?
2. When used as a webcam (e.g for streaming hours at a time), how do they compare when it comes to overheating?
Both great questions, I’ll test out rolling shutter for video when I put out the review. Did you receive the xm5 yet? I hear it’s on back order again
I personally didn’t think that the XM-5 could be plugged as a webcam directly like sony allows
Even raw files have some sort of processing.
wow the sony has such cinematic colors:) i really enjoed the footage taken on it
Thanks, do you own Sony cameras?
Incrível trabalho 👋👋( Brasil )
Thank you my friend
If I ever hook it up to do a live stream, I’ll have to test it out and let you know
Is iphone 13 good for vlogging or go with zve10 planning to make content for instagram or youtube:) thanks sir
I haven't tested the iPhone 13 for vlogging, but I can tell you I love the ZV-E10
Crazy production value!
Thanks Ivan
Hello! Do you know ZV-e10 II have the same strange color hlg3 like a6700, that do not match zv-e1 hlg?
I did not know that. Are you an HlG shooter?
@thefilmalliance I shoot with 5 cameras 4 zv e10 and 1 zv e1, in hlg3. Because zv e10 only have 8 bit video. I bought and sell 6700 because strange hlg colors, it do not match
Wow thatd awesome
@@thefilmalliance there is no s-log 2 in new cameras and best profile for multicam with 8 bit cameras is hlg. Maybe you can check hlg profile in Sony zv e10 ii?
Man seeing that tripod mount position ticks me, it drain fast, like why fuji? You really need a cage for it.
yoo i knew these sunsets and beaches look familiar! i was just out there a couple weeks ago.
That’s awesome, it’s the perfect place to test out these 2 cameras
You say get the X-M5 so you don't have to wait on a x100vi but the X-M5 isn't shipping from anywhere until next April....
Oh dang, that stinks. Do you plan on picking one up? When is the x100vi shipping?
21:57 The image quality of ZV-E10 is noticeably better than the X-M5 with color banding visible.
Good eye, so your team ZV-E10 II ?
@thefilmalliance yeah i'll get a thumbgrip for dailying it with the 27 and will consider a grip for the hefty 85
the biggest downfall of the xm5 in my opinion because I have it is the record button it records in auto when you press it and there is no option to change settings which to me is an issue because I would like to record video in any setting I have
Wait, why don’t you switch to manual before you record?
@@thefilmalliance it doesn't work when you hit the physical record button on the camera.
Lensa what's?
Please explain what you mean
Is fujifilm xt 200 better than xm 5 ?
I don’t know, I’ve never shot with that. Is that what you own?
@thefilmalliance no thinking to buy
I’d say go with the Fuji X-M5
fuji images always have soul in them straight out of the cameras, they are for who shoot casually and want the best from the cameras, sony is really for the pros who can edit well.
I like that breakdown. Are you a casual shooter or pro? (Which one do you plan on buying?)
Not in the market for either camera (I own enough cameras from this generation😂) but fascinating video. Both beer impressive for the price. I like having a EVF and bigger battery
I feel the same way, thats one of the reasons the a6700 is always by my side. I'm glad you found the video insightful.
Finally😊
Were you the one that asked for this?
@thefilmalliance no, But l saw his comment and l was sure you would respond. I want to buy a6700 l hope lm making a good choice. I would be happy to speak to you on a personal level lm in Africa and l really need to take my work to another level
Can you get a used Sony a6700 with the sigma 18-50 mm F2.8? I believe that will be your perfect set up.
@@thefilmalliance thank you 👏👏👏
My pleasure
M5👑
Thanks
Good video! Those camera sensors need to be cleaned from dust 👀
we have the dust blower just off-camera
Why not compare to the a6700
I could do that
Really good video, If Sony would have a mechanical shutter I would buy it in a heartbeat. That is the only thing I hate in my ZV-E1.
Thanks, Do you mean a mechanical shutter?
@thefilmalliance yes :) I misspelled
I thought so. I agree with you by the way
What I really don't get is how come Sony is still dragging their heels at supporting in-camera raw conversion.
Great video. I bought the X-M5 before watching this haha
You’ll love it. What are your first impressions?
so far I do like it but with my primary body being Panasonic and shooting mostly canon in the past, the menu system is a lot to learn. Still trying to customize it to my liking
thank you
My pleasure
Fuji all the way
Please explain why. Thanks
@ because i liked fuji shots better!!! As simple as that!
@@alpiston that’s simple and profound all in a few words. Thank you Alpiston
Appreciate
Xm5 all the way
Please explain why you like the xm5 better?
Sony should've kept the mechanical shutter
I know it
The camera worth buying is weatherproof/waterproof.
Action camera?
I like camera B, let's see what I got.
Was your mind changed by the end?
Sony is the right choice. Reason? Reliable autofocus.
You’ve got a great point, that’s definitely an important factor to consider. Do you own Sony?
@thefilmalliance I have 2 Sony camera and 2 Canon.
I just know I never buy a Canon camera anymore.
I see, yes most Sony users find other cameras autofocus subpar
At the beach scene, Fuji colour is way more beautiful than Sony. I’ll go with Fujifilm xm5.😊
That is a big reason why I love the Fuji color profile, it's really beautiful. Straight out of camera and no color correction is really nice
@ yes you are right.
Oh wow, so you don’t think we will get 8K? What about the Sony Alpha mark 1 and 2?
if there is a Sony on one side, there is no room to discuss the result
Please explain what you mean
@@thefilmalliance that means Sony always win
Camera A is Sony zve and camera B Fujifilm
Good try, you have one more guess
@thefilmalliance Fujifilm is very good for cinematic shots and also best for random clicks. I am a Canon camera user but I like Fujifilm too, so in future I will definitely shift to Fujifilm.
Nice and you’ll have access to all of the X-mount glass
X-M5 stabilization looks much better for me. But still far-far-away from iPhones..
Okay, you thought the Fuji X-M5 looked better. Yes phones are way better
A cage WILL NOT protect a camera if it falls to the ground.
Please explain what you mean. It has protected my other cameras on numerous occasions
What about with heavier glass? Have you used one yet?
@@thefilmalliance No, but I've used old slab style (gripless) cameras from the 70's with heavy glass, and the handling is the same. On a super heavy lens, you'd be supporting it via holding the lens more than anything.
Autofocus is bad on xm5. This is not even a "vs" 😂
we need a xm5 tutorial :D PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
and i subbed cause this was by far the best video ive seen on the xm5. Your script is on point ! And your presentation skills keep my adhd in check :D
Hi, I'm still confused what to get. What's the best camera for traveling and for the gram? 🫠
Hmmm Fuji X-M5 for travel
