I love being able to listen to three very knowledgeable Seahawks evaluators (not sure of the correct title) actually having the space to breathe and provide their opinions on the state of the team. So much more preferable than the six-second soundbites people shout at each other on TV.
This round table is as good as it gets. There are enough differences in perspective, but also some Venn diagram overlap. It feels like an annual tradition now, but here is to hoping that our O-line coaching is better under Huff and their potential is realized.
I think this is the third time you guys have done this specific setup and I’m all for it. Easily the best variety of opinions in one place. And I actually think having Griff’s young energy makes Rob a little bit gentler;). Seahawks fans are blessed with some of the best UA-camrs around… shoutout to the two B’s and Seahawks forever. Thanks guys for taking the time to make such good content.
The Bryan Mone injury killed us, we need size to stop the run relying on Jarren Reed at NT was a mistake & thinking a rookie late round pick at NT would be enough was another mistake. Jamal Adams, Bryan Mone, injuries are killing us like every other team but how you respond to Injuries separates Winners & Losers! Nobody could predict the Jamal Adams injury but extending Quandre Diggs it was too much money, to much trust into a player Diggs who didn’t deliver when he could’ve. Remember Pete’s comment when Schneider made the brilliant trade for Diggs? Pete said he finally had a Safety that understood what he was talking about in reference to Safety!! Earl & Kam spoiled Pete & made him lazy in terms of teaching Safety.
You need an OL that plays consistent good football when you do you will have a consistent QB! Nothing wrong with Geno give him a Good Offense and he will deliver!
@@bradhawk5997 Wake up dude hawks will never win a sb with smith And that's the only fact that matters They should start howell so they can see if he's the long term guy or not They're just wasting time with smith starting
The trait Schneider is looking for is second reaction playmaking. A trait Geno does have and is showcased in his pocket management. Despite the OL health, Geno decreased his sacks taken in 2022 from 46 to 31 in 2023 through his P2S%. Which went from 20.6% in 2022 to 13.9% 2023. BTT and TWP also sees a similar leap in favor of Geno with a ratio of 1.17 BTT to TWP in 2022 to 1.4. Geno decreased TWP/game from 1.71 to 1.4. While BTT/game increased from 2 to 2.13 on two fewer games. In the first 7 games the Seahawks presented 6 different starting OL combinations with 1 repeating combo that required 3 positional shifts. The lack of OL continuity was a factor in early season results. The lack of continuity also hamstrung the running game as Walker had 56 MTF, most of which were behind the line of scrimmage. Charbonnet had 17 and 12 were past the line of scrimmage. Just going off of those PFF stats suggests Geno made improvements in worse circumstances. Raising the floor of play OL should add making offensive results more consistent. And lead to the most drastic improvement between the two sides of the ball.
I agree with you mostly! Carroll had a tendency to use the wrong type of players! Last year we needed size at DT year prior we needed lateral movement at DLine. For years we had LB’s the played the run well but couldn’t Cover!
When I look at last season I see a Seahawks team that was so poor at fundamentals of football. Watching receivers in trips running into each other. D line running into each other. Poor tackling and gap responsibility. Missed blocks and assignments. So yeah, waldren and hurt were very poor coordinators just in the basics. So I can’t help to think they will be better with better coaching
Josh Allen is a Generational Player you can’t compare a Pro Bowl QB like Geno Smith to him. If several Generational QB’s had entered the league last decade you could argue Seattle should’ve drafted them. But so far Seattle hasn’t missed out on any QB within their range. Geno Smith is as Good as any QB except for the Top 3 in the NFL & Seattle isn’t over paying him which is Critical. If Geno has a 3rd Pro Bowl year in a row it makes sense to extend him as long as the contract is fair. If a Generational QB is in the Draft & you do everything in your Power to acquire him you have done your job as a GM even if you failed to acquire him. As far as drafting QB’s it makes zero sense to draft a potential Pro Bowl QB when you already have a Pro Bowl QB on a team friendly contract & you have a potential starting & winning QB as a back up on a team friendly contract.
@@iron_bison Maybe your wrong about Howell? You were definitely wrong about Geno when he was a back up to RW!! When Howell fails in Seattle let me know, but so far John Schneider has been 100% accurate on QB’s in Seattle & his doubters have been %100 Wrong! His doubters didn’t think Allen or Mahomes were future ALL Pros during their drafts. This is nothing but drama for an excuse to write & record You Tube videos!
I agree with this. Don’t over extend your resources for the possibility of an exception, which Mahomes and Allen have proven to be but weren’t considered at the time. This era QB has maybe 3 generational QBs (Mahomes,Allen,Jackson) and a mix of QBs that sit at 4-7 (Burrow,Stafford,Prescott,Herbert) but 8-16 are interchangeable. 4-16 with the right cast can win playoff games and get to a Super Bowl. It is all a range of variables at this point when you have a 8-16 QB. Best not use excess resources on the low chance of a 4-16 and rarer chance of a 1-3 QB. It’s make a mountain out of a mole hill to fret about a Quality 8-16 QB, paid fairly for that range. When there is a more pressing need to deepen the talent of the entire roster.
@bradhawk5997 I literally said maybe he's great and maybe he's not. So I'm not sure how I'd be wrong. John isn't 100%. Charlie whitehurst, Matt Flynn, lock, mcgough, any back up before geno, interest in Andy dalton.
@@iron_bison RW arrived 2012, Lock did his job & his story has yet to be written. Schneider made the greatest trade in NFL History when he traded RW! Then the Geno Smith Contract. Over the last decade Schneider has been 100% so far, referring to his thought process & judgement. Mcgough come on man that wasn’t a situation where Seattle was making any sort of call.
Don't tell me Waldron knew what he was doing when 3 or 4 different play calls he had DK as the only one running a route he is an incompetent play caller
I thought this was one of the better Seahawks discussions this offseason. Lots of keen, cogent insights. Lots to look forward to. Well done.

Well you at least got to listen to two of them. Not sure about using "knowledgeable" when describing Staton but two out of three aint bad.
Thanks, Matt!

Hi Rob. I'm a real saddo too then. Love the pre-season. Chris Nottingham.
Best trio on the internet for Seahawks content. Go Hawks!!!
Thank you!
You 3’s hawk talk is phenomenal, love all of your opinions on the gawks
Love how disgusted Rob looked when you read out the defense rushing allowed stats.

As Rob details Geno's streakiness as a player, I can't help but think of a lot of Russ seasons where he was also very streaky
Lol of course Brian says the same thing as me a few minutes later

I can get used to this round table… and Griff schooling everyone about schemes
I think Griffs assertion is incorrect. You need to review both Baltimore and UM defensive improvement and play calling. It is not just a talent issue.
