Thank you so much for allowing me to understand my 05 BMW 325i like I really do need to know it. It's a 5 speed 2 door coupe. It only has 188,000 miles. I was at the point of calling the salvage yard. But not anymore. Thanks to you,

This video saved my butt in so many ways. Now, here's a couple of things you need to know. It is very difficult to do this repair with a normal soldering iron. I went and bought a desoldering pistol for 120 US$ instead. This pistol has a hollow tip that heats up the pin and sucks out the solder at the same time. Works like a charm, and it makes desoldering AND soldering 138 pins so much easier. No need for wick and no danger of overheating and damaging other components on the board. Second tip: especially for our European friends: once you have a good desoldering vacuum gun, you can go ahead and buy almost any used BMW ECU and transplant the black connector. I'm telling youse this because the connectors are not really available new in Europe. They cost like 60 dollars new and you have to wait 4 weeks.
Buying the vacuum desoldering gun and a used ECU was cheaper than the 1.500 USD that the BMW stealership quoted me to replace my corroded ECU. Thanks to this video I was able to repair the ECU and the car is running fine again.

Wow bro, excellent. If you found it on Mouser, it means that there's a good demand for it, maybe enough as to make a repair business out of it. The original terminal is Amphenol (AMP) and Amphenol = high quality terminals. Wondering what went wrong with those guys when manufactured that terminal...

just make sure you not heating up the joint just the pin, keep the iron on the pin with some flux it should melt and you can suck it out with solder sucker, any iron 40watt should be good enough to do the job.

Good Video where can I ship the DME. Can you repair mines. Been tearing car apart to figure it out. Looked at the DME earlier and have the same pins with corrosion on it. Sounds like a defect to me. Same pin and same DME model 7…I will order the part in the AM

what kind of problems were you having? Im having intermittent(mostly not working at this moment) trans and engine failsafe programs, plus my temp gauge goes to red instantly - looks like lack of communication with DME, checked every single fuse and relay i could(new battery as well) but only thing that seems to help is actually touching the DME - every time i check connectors and pins it magically starts working. Were those your issues too?

Clear video. I had some problems with DME because of water. Water is really hard to stop going into the e-box. Maybe you can give me a few tips on the soldering. The traces are really skinny near the pins. I have some experience with soldering in AV equipment. But with unsoldering double sided PCB's I sometimes end up sucking out the whole via. So only heating the pin like you shown. But it is hard to suck out the hole all the way to the bottom. Is it about temperature? What's the brand of your iron? I'm always glad when someone is able to save a nice car like the 740i. Too much are wasted

The best tool to do this repair is a desoldering vacuum gun. Search for videos about ZD-915. There are others, but this one did the job for me.

Hi, great informative video! I have a 1998 740il and for the last two years it’s been stalling. I have a mechanic who can’t find anything wrong with transmission and he says it starts for him and I can drive it for awhile then stalling again.
We’re you having this problem and could a bad DME be my problem?
    Regards, Annemarie Conrod

Did you ever figure out your BMW issue. Was it the same problem. I have a 2004 645ci that just clicked at first. Then got it to crank but no start. Then noticed earlier corrosion on the same DME pins
