    9:11 I appreciate that shot right there. I found a used one from a Z4 on ebay and I was able to see the EXACT same part number in the photo; I was uncertain about the ".9" on the end of the Z4's e-box until your pic clarified the one straight out of your M5 has that too. I'm paying $49 instead of $270. Thanks a ton for helping me save money.
    PS how freaking stupid that this is the same model in numerous different BMWs (not an M5 specific piece; literally hundreds of thousands of BMW's out there with this part) and NO ONE else makes a replacement? Even more unbelievably stupid the "Genuine BMW" one is STILL MADE BY BOSCH but the only single difference is the BMW logo on the label and it costs SIGNIFICANTLY more: $270 vs $90. For the exact same part. From the exact same company.
    I've long understood that owning a high performance BMW requires a little extra $$$ at times, and that many "genuine BMW" parts are no different than the other aftermarket makers, but this is just ludicrous.
    #endrant. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it

    I just replaced my e-box fan. I called Bosch directly, and no dice on the unit.
    Found the BMW OEM fan at Autohauz ,they had the best price available.
    Followed all the instructions Ryan gave in the video .I had no issues and it’s done.
    Ryan is by far the best instructor on this chassis that I have found on UA-cam or speaking to an local technician.
    I was just wondering what BMW would have charged to replace the unit. Just the labor? The unit was $260.00

    There can’t be single sinew of an e39 m5 that this dude is not intimately aquatinted with. He is at one with e39 BMWs. He can probably tell what’s wrong with one just by like looking into it’s headlights. He is the e39 whisperer. I’m trademarking it.

    My BMW X3 2005 does not crank and start so I scanned the computer and some of the codes that came out were ''DME: Exhaust flap: activation'' , ''DME: Electronics box fan: activation'' and ''DME: No message (EGS 1) from EGS
    control unit''. Do you think that this is going to be the solution?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  4 роки тому

      A bad DME box fan will not prevent the car from starting, I'd say you have a bigger issue here.

    Does the e39 520i 2001 and e39 528i 1997 have this ecu/dme blower fan?

      As far as I know, all E39s use a fan in the DME box.

    Great Video!
    I'm thinking about retrofitting my 530i with such an ebox fan (german car, hence there is none built in from factory). Therefore I assume that I'll have to code it via ncs expert into a control device. You mentioned that a fault code is reported in case of failure? Is the fault code shown by the DME or is it reported by another of the countless control units in the car (e.g. the Grundmodul GM3/GM5?)
    Curious whether retrofitting a car with this fan and temperature sensor is possible at all on a car, which wasn't schipped with this part?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  3 роки тому +1

      I did not know that the German cars did not come with this fan, are you certain? I don't see why they wouldn't. The code is reported by the DME, and I believe that the DME fully controls the fan.

    • @infinity6385
      @infinity6385 3 роки тому +1

      @@E39Source apparently it depends on the engine. I think that 6 cylinder engines do not come with fan, because the climate here is not that warm compared to the US. Though, as far as I've seen the 8 cylinder engines come all with this fan. 530i for the american market are supposed to have the fan by default. Apparently it depends on the market the car is targeted to.
      So... Getting the parts is not the problem here in germany (lots of gutted e39 around here), controlling the fan might be a challenge, though.
      Thank you very much for your (extremely fast) response :)
      I simply love your channel!

      I do one side at a time with a small pick. Push/pull on the same side that you release until it frees itself, then move onto the other half and do the same thing.
