Let's hear your best guess on what's wrong with the 1) 1999 Ski Doo MXZ 600, and 2) 1991 Polaris Indy Lite 340. Guess them both correctly and you'll get pooled into a drawing to win some stuff.
On the Skidoo I was surprised when you replaced the regulator and it worked. It must have been moving around all the wiring in that area that brought it back to life. Check the nearby connectors for good contact, make sure the regulator itself has a good chassis ground.
Jeremy your compression tester is the one that has the shrader valve at the top near the guage it’s one that they sell usually at harbor freight they always read very low I have one it does the same. The ones with the check valve where it screws in to the spark plug hole will have higher compression.
I had an old polaris cobra 440 that ran like that, would be good for a while then bog. Turned out the heads hadn't been torqued properly so it'd go through cycles of plugging up the tiny gap, then blowing out the plug. It probably would have shown on a compression tester I'd had one. Also, the only reason it ran at all by the time I got it was someone mixed 2 stroke with diesel instead of regular fuel before it sat for a decade... win! It eventually bit it when it threw the chaincase to track bearings and those were worth more than the sled was to replace. I've learned since that was bull and probably could have had it fixed back then with a makeshift press and a couple generic bearings for less than $20.
Another enjoyable video! Thank you! The ski-doo, check ALL grounds and connections, bad DESS key? The polaris, air leaks usually mean melted / seized pistons. It seems to run good until it gets hot, then appears to affect both cylinders. center crank seal, maby ignition coil. Hears an off the wall guess, flywheel gets hot and magnets lose their magnetism.
That's what I'm suspecting as well. Clutch getting stuck in open position is equivalent to pulling out in too tall of a gear and it seems few people ever consider this as the problem. A good & easy test is to pick up the rear of the sled (track off the ground) and give it throttle to see if RPMs build as normal.
I think the polaris issue is in the clutching. Engagement seems to be very low in the rpm range. Either the secondary isn't backshifting fully, or the primary spring is weak
Voltage regulator controls electrical output for lighting and accessories. If it ran after replacing it, most likely you wiggled a connector with a bad contact or moved a bare wire that was grounding to the frame.
went out for a nice ride one evening by myself. died in the woods. pre-cell phone. walked a couple miles to friends rode his sled back to tow me out. his sled dies. we walk even farther to my place and load my other sled in back of truck. Drove as close as we could, towed 2 sleds out and loaded up all 3 in truck. was around 6am by time we were done. God I love sledding
Had a 99 summit 600 that would die and then you could pull it and would start right back up. Turns out it was a tiny bit of corrosion on one of the wire connectors.
Throw either a 500 I’m in that 340 or a 488. I have the same year 340 and threw 488 in it having carb issues but it definitely works plus 488 gearing and clutches
Great video. I got the same Indy 340 Polaris curse. Except mine has a bluebonnet. Been throwing money and parts at this thing for 8 years. It got good compression good spark and it gets its gas and will not start. It's to the point where I do not even want to own another Skiddo ever again. Talk about discouragement.
Check the dress plug I know some of them become worn out and start to mess up and go into what people call limp mode and have also know to loose spark from time to time
Stator is probably bad on your skidoo. I had a John Deere 340. Rode it for a long time before realizing the crank seals were bad. And it still ran without bogging like that Indy you have. I had a 440 Indy that would bog when the belt got warm. So my guess on the Indy is a clutching/belt issue
Your compression tester is good but your compression screw in adaptor is not... You need the compression adaptor screws to be the same length as your spark plugs... And you need to hold the gas in all the way for Maximum Air Velocity in your cylinders to give you the right compression PSI... I bought a good used Snap On adaptor on Ebay for $20 ! Nice video !
91 Polaris bogging is dirty carbs / plugged jets and possibly needs a new fuel pick line with a fuel strainer put back on it. I'm sure its on the bottom of the tank. The 99 Ski Doo is your throttle switch sticking more than likely. Other than that sweet vids.
I had a Indy lite 340 growing up my parents bought brand new for my brother and I in 1996 it was a great little sled! We beat the life out of that poor thing. All my friends had bigger and better sleds it wasn’t a rocket ship by any means but it would do 85 down the road and 70 through the fields with me on it. I could throw that little thing around so good I had no problem keeping up with the 500’s and 600’s in the trails.
Come to Sullivan nh I know somone with a junk yeard of just sleds. I'm talking hundreds of them! Probably 20 them 340 lights there. Even sleds that parted out like you new one. They have every part for every sled! He's also on fb market with pics of his fields full of sleds and what's for sale what is whole or parts. Be worth the trip here 1000% I'll garentee you will leave Brooke hahaha if you bring Mike and few outhers and just buy a ton sleds wouod be a great video and ride em around here we have snow as of now lol
Its low compression thats the problem. When the motor warms up it has bigger clearances and it loses a little compression making it more boggy to the point were it stops running. I have one thats doing it right now
Only time ive seen an indy lite run great and strong all day was with a person under 150 lbs on it.. They don't like going high rpms for extended durations for some reason......go figure
My mxz500 died on me right in my wouldn’t start for me one time because I compressed the track suspension too far down on my trailer just like what happened to you I fixed mine by technically just letting it sit but I changed my plugs in the meantime and a thousand pulls later she fired up and ran beautifully but yeah I think it’s a safety thing with mxz just in case a crash
@@bhoss7133 I loaded my sled onto my trailer running tied it down and went from my backyard to my driveway witch is 100ft then something told me to start it and it wouldn’t start for the life of me I took the strap off and lifted the hood and checked absolutely everything and figured screw it I wasn’t going riding that day and I pulled the plugs they were clean but I changed them anyway and it still didn’t start but I pulled until I almost passed out lol then it sputtered then I gave it one last pull and she fired up so I strapped it down a little lighter in the rear and reached my location and rode all day no issues and when I got home I put the old plugs in just to see and it fired up no problems so I just figured it was because I strapped it down too far in the rear and it was a safety thing
I have a mint indy lite 340 touring mod sled ! Not for sale but u never know. Its geared, bar risers/ protaper bars, footgrips, dragon tank and seat. Message me
This is why we stick with newer sleds with newer functional components with 20+ years of technology advancement, old sleds are fun but never reliable. So that comment of 600$ package to ride all year? Nope more like a600$ package to help you spend 3000$ on parts over time.

I’d say the Indy 340 needs rings for sure and a tuneup
Maybe the emergency stop on the mxz
a loose connector coming off either the voltage regulator or stator and the 340 probably needs new rings
It’s a kill switch or tether
Other needs a top end
340 needs top end rebuild. atleast rings. I would say the DPM for the mxz. known for issues
I look forward to these videos every week. Wish you had time to post more. Love watching the old sleds getting revived.
Revived would insinuate that they actually fix them instead of just pulling it till they start then go ride it until it stops 😂

I was guessing a short....
These videos remind me of the days when I was in high school. Me and my buddies with our old machines. Ride em. Break em. Fix em. Ride em again.
Make sure you have the tether all the way on. Might not be making contact good enough. The Polaris needs help.
Hey Jeremy and mike when doing compression test throttle needs to be wide to be accurate as for the mx z double check your grounds. cheers

Sad to see snow melting in the beginning of February I remember when we would have tons of snow till the end of march or even into mid April.
traded my indy lite for a 2000 xcsp 600 VES that needed a carb clean. I still miss the indy lite lol

The problem is, it’s not a Polaris
That bog can be secondary clutch spring fresh speing its like taken off in second gear too!!!

Faulty kill switch maybe on mxz, possible head gasket on lite, minimal snow here in northern NY tug hill area, and warmer Temps coming

Always great to see a new video pop up . Should do a full tear down and rebuild on the 340 make it a lil ripper again
We are thinking about it! I think it's time! Haha
Hey buddy try tapping the electronic modules while you're pulling it over so you can get some Spark. Could be cold solder joint

Jeremy it's the compression. my son's sled did the same thing. once they get too hot it's over no power bogging

was a popular work out in the 90s
That house with the sweet jumps out front is right near my house nice!

You're supposed to hold the throttle wide open when testing compression. It allows as mich air into the cylinders as possible.

That sled does look like a lot of fun!!! 😎😂
U need to hold the throttle when u pull her over to check compression.
Throttle open or closed changes the results of 0 compression tests
@thelonewrangler1008 lol u are completely wrong but ok....
@thelonewrangler1008 what world do u live in? Obviously u don't no shit about how stuff works..
It’s just a bad compression tester I have the same one lol. Wouldn’t even run if the compression was that low
Hey what's up you should do a new snowmobile shopping vid
Jeremy they have a 1997 and under 440 and under ifs snowmobile race in turner Maine Saturday bring the Indy!
Rebuild top end, if its crank seals it usually idles higher probly ear a piston from lean condition.
I know Mike doesn't like Artic cats but he's still a cool dude

Can't understate the need to clean carbs. I believe that's all that's wrong with the Indy Lite
Throttle wide open when doing compression test!
There is an Indy light for sale in CT for $150. Chris Hatt in Salem ct
You guys gotta do some winter sled camping with zachary fowler
I was looking forward to seeing the MXZ rip
That’s the fun of owning an old sled. Never know what it is going to do.

This video was hilarious
Keep em coming
Clutching is also bad and needs attention on indy lite. Probably sticking at mininum
Upper mi still has a ton of snow
Its low compression thats the problem. When the motor warms up it has bigger clearances and it loses a little compression making it more boggy to the point were it stops running. I have one thats doing it right now
Love the that skidoo mzx
Should run fine with bad regulator. Will just blow bulbs. Probably a stator. Can test real easy with ohm meter
I love your videos jeremy!! Keep up the awesome work! You should come up to northern maine sometime!
Hood the throttle wide open when checking compression
You have to hold the throttle open when testing compression
when you do a compression test, you also have to hold the throttle open
Pull the wiring harness, chaffed wire somewhere
You still having fun with older skeds
Tether on skidoo....fuel pump on polaris!
Hold throttle open when using compression tester
Mike is a character lol
Rebuild the indy a stick a Xtra 12 suspension in the rear and some nice skiis
your problem with the skidoo might be the dess thing you could try messing with that and making sure its pluged in all the way or somthing like that
Only time ive seen an indy lite run great and strong all day was with a person under 150 lbs on it..
They don't like going high rpms for extended durations for some reason......go figure
The mxz is the dess key they fail all the time move it around while you check for spark
Sup Jeremy love the vids
Would never run on 57 psi. Needs full throttle when testing and probably gauge is faulty
Check the carb boots on the 340
Getting too hot. Not moving enough air, rejet the indy lite for warm temps
Sweet.
Death, taxes and Mike's jean jacket
that polaris sounds so tired lol 😂
15:31
Mxz , kill switch.
The po crank seals
Geez you guys are hard on equipment! 'Spose that's why you're always broke down?
Cdi box or ignition coil
That is some funny shit man good stuff.
Dood that thing I loved
the price of indy lite 340's just increased in value.....
It might be a stater issue
Why is there a 6 and a q painted on the windshield of that sled?🤣
Check the carbrader boots

I said compressing the suspension to far down
@@virgilgregory8126 OK, I got you so far. But how do you tie that into not starting?

I have a Polaris XCR triple triple u can get cheap, In Michigan haha
Can’t trust those harbor freight compression testers.
11:34 average polaris 340 moment
Put some crank seals in that thing for god sakes!!
Dess key
Here
Gummed up carbs or it’s too warm.
Indy 340
Homeboy needs to stay off the edibles
Please don't do stuff to get hurt. Hurt no funny! That Indy Lite is bullet proof, wait don't get any ideas!

You bought the re red Indy from us that said 69
If that skidoo uses a dess type tether thiurougly clean both contact surfaces. Alcohol and a pencil eraser!.....been there!
I like watching videos look forward to new videos every week 🌨☃
i have 2 snowmobiles i dont know what is rong with one
Suppose full throttle when doing test
