Enjoy your video's greatly appreciated as I'm a new sled owner of a polaris 2up trail touring"08"550 with 2600 miles on it , learning from you and watching as many video's as possible. Thanks again brother, peace Turtle, from south of Boston mass.
That was good to know that the front bars aren't very heavy duty. More great info ya learn from your show. Love it. Keep up the great work buddy. RNDH 4 LIFE.
Great video Pete. I work in a machine shop and I am a Yamaha guy. Going to work on this project ASAP. Cheers from Wisconsin. We're finally getting some snow !!
Very common problem as least here in Finland where the trails are always in rough shape. I turned mine from steel and also the front shock lower shaft and made reinforcement plates to the tunnel. Never gonna break again or if it is then I'm having bigger problems also.
With these big girls (998's) its suggested to upgrade with the RR or LTX-SE front arm components. The parts you need to get are the following Axle, Front Slider 3604-663 Screw, Cap 8408-041(I believe these are slightly longer) Bushing, Flared 3604-233 (Mine had a edge broken off) AXLE 3604-269 (Steel) Most people just get the slider axle upgrade and completely bypass the lower axle, the part the shock mounts to that mounts to the slide rails. If you upgrade the slider and all that force comes down, it goes rite into the bottom axled and ends up bending that or sending it through the precious track.
Another Nice one Pete! Thanks man. Hey do ya have any XL hoodies in yet? I think I got your last one at the sled show, but I promised a buddy I would pick one up for him when ya got your stock replenished.
Pete you have not tried my method for removal and installing skids yet? I do them by myself! I take 2 lengths of wood around 4 foot long, 2" wide, 1" height ( As long as the height is above the Track Lugs). I ratchet strap the top of the track to hold it up, I then slide the 2 pieces of wood between the bottom of the Track and the Skid, and it slides right out! Reverse method for going back in! "TICKITY BOO"
Cat DNA! My 1971 skiroule helped me learn how to work on stuff as a kid, if I wanted to ride more than an hour! Nice job!! I believe Barn of Parts makes one from stainless. Havent put one in mine yet...still fun not knowin where yer gonna break down! Adds to the adventure as Johnny Skeptical would say.
Pete, how are you doing? Hey I just wanted to let you know that I like the way you do your videos! The camera angles are excellent, and the way you explain what your doing as you repair a sled is nice! I’ve been searching you tube for some repair videos for my F7 and all the ones I’ve found suck to be honest lol! Keep up the good work and if you do any work on your 03 F7 plz make videos!! Thanks and cheers…
If you order arctic cat rr shafts and stuff they are all solid and stronger..I did that to my 2014 cat when I bent the shock shaft and noticed that cross shaft was flimsy...very worth while upgrade
Great video Pete. Hey you should power tap them holes. Just run your chuck slow and put your tap in the tailstock and leaver the tailstock loose and as you bump your chuck on and off just push on your tailstock with your other hand. Use some tap magic tapping fluid it's the best thing for aluminum.
yeah thats not a bad idea!! I mean these sleds are already pretty heavy so I mean it's not like we care about weight savings...just don't want the freakin suspension to fall out lmao 🤣🍻
Dang Pete hating on polaris sure work alot on yamaerhammer lol another great video keep it up brother !!! Need more polaris repair videos so we can work on ours hahaha
Had the same thing happen at the drags a few years ago on the sidewinder I upgraded with a thundercat apparently there a bit heavier not sure but it didn’t ever break again 👍
Good stuff Pete! You have a lathe! I could port you some cylinders cut the base on your lathe cut the squish band and make pop up pistons using your lathe then you want to talk about dangle!! Too bad I'm not closer lol!
Nice tight fit that's what she said . Nice one pete looks awesome hey whats a matter pete you said some nice about Polaris you must have had to many beers lol.
@@rednecksdirtyhands No i don't think so pete i don't think you will ever be a Polaris guy . Hey thats okay if we all loved the same braned we would have nothing to talk about lol. just keep doing what your doing pete great work love your channel .
I’m surprised you didn’t already use the ole ratchet strap. My old man used to manage a cat dealer in the early 90’s, so I learned that trick early on in life helping out on customer sleds. 😂
Nice work Pete, one suggestion on machining the bar is you shouldn’t have tapered the ends. I’d have left the shoulders on which would have maintained the overall strength. Now you’ve got a bit of a weak spot at the collars.
yeah I was thinking the same thing..but where the bar slides in I needed a bit of extra room for the rubber cushions so I tapered them for that. I guess we'll just have to test it and see. I mean it's still thicker than the original bar so I'm thinking it should be good to go. I appreciate the input though! cheers 🍻
FYI, love the channel! I’ve watched all your videos… keep em coming. I think a lot of Rednecks like me are getting a lot of very useful information for working on our sleds. I’ve got an idea if you’re interested in hearing about it, think ‘questions and answers’
Just a thought though. since it sheared the original part at the steel collar; then wouldn’t machining a larger diameter rod down to the same diameter it was where it sheared, essentially be the same thing? Unless your aluminum is higher strength than OEM. Love the videos by the way
thank you! yeah I think just a straight steel bar would be the best solution! it would be way stronger as well, I just happend to have that aluminum bar in the shop so figured I'd make one and see how it works for now. 🍻
Gotta get your hands on some titanium and a few good tools to machine it 😂😂. You’re literally the only channel that I’ve seen so far that works on sleds and shows fabrication. Good Job Pete!
Mr. Pete. I’d like to ask a question, please? I have a 2001 Cat Triple Touring - triple triple 600. I’m sure you’ve come across this as my only complaint is that it doesn’t have that “triple” sound. Assume it’s how it’s muffled. What would you suggest, if you had it, to get that sound with as low a budget as possible and that a simpleton could install?
haha yeah nothin like the sweet sound of a triple!! I'd say look around for a set of stingers for it!! they will make it sound rowdy 🤣 🍻 or try to find an aftermarket can for it to replace the muffler.
Wait a second Pete, is the New To you Viper you got for Christmas. Have the same aluminum design that you had to straighten? I'd hate to see the Viper walk by Yomama cross the finish line fail then grenade your drivers.
Just stumbled across your channel, i dont know how far you are from peterborough but same snow situation here. Supposed to be a bit more later in the week but who knows. You got any plans for some atv/utv stuff in the summer months?

Easiest way to line up the rear skid holes is to just tighten the track adjusters until the holes line up, put your bolts in then set your tension

@rednecksdirtyhands once you get the hang of it it's a life saver..
Of course it's the cat bits of these sleds that will leave you stranded.

Pete, another thing you can do on your lathe is upgrade to a steel bar for the front shock bottom mount like they use on the RR. Nice one!
yeah thats not a bad idea!! I mean these sleds are already pretty heavy so I mean it's not like we care about weight savings...just don't want the freakin suspension to fall out lmao 🤣🍻

Pro tip. Start the tap in the lathe. Just put it in neutral and turn the chuck by hand and feed the tap from the tailstock
