Once I saw the pic, I knew I had to check it out, I had no idea they'd done a version with Eva as a man. Do we know if this was done as some sort of "gay version", where "Eva" is a man and has an affair at least with Colonel/president Peron? Not sure how they approach the rest of the story... I guess go all the way, have them marry and do the whole play/movie? Regardless, Josh has a very nice voice, seems to really feel the lyrics and the piano player was noticeably excellent!

No he didn't ! It was perfect....He took very little liberties with the melody. It was mainly on his vocal runs and no one has ever sung the song this brilliantly. You are just not used to hearing the definitive version.
I would have to agree with Jim M, although he has an amazing voice, this type of song needs to stay true to the original to be appreciated. Beautiful but missed the mark from the original.. Maybe it's a combination of the solo piano and male voice that makes it so far from the original.
Agreed. It needs a sad introspection with a touch naïveté....she's a girl who has been sleeping with a man old enough to be her father. She's seen a lot and probably doesn't understand a lot of it. She is what Eva could have been and that's an important theatrical point. The song must be treated like a folk song, I think, almost Dolly Parton meets Natalie Maines.

He played Che. This was just an isolated performance. He wasn't reprising his performance from Evita.
