Jonathan Groff performs "I Got Lost In His Arms" from Annie Get Your Gun
Broadway Backwards, the annual Broadway extravaganza celebrating the LGBTQ+ community through the great songs of musical theater, returns to Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre on Monday, March 13, 2023. The beloved evening and its star-studded cast will embrace love and self-expression in true Broadway fashion.

Broadway Backwards, the only annual Broadway event uniquely created for the gay and lesbian community, our friends and families, supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York. Each year, the show features a star-studded cast and live orchestra performing the great songs of musical theatre with a twist: women sing songs originally written for men and men sing songs written for women.
Broadway Backwards creator Robert Bartley wrote and directed this year’s show. Mary-Mitchell Campbell served as music supervisor with Tim Rosser as music director. The creative team included additional choreography by Bartley, Amy Jones, Melissa Rae Mahon and Reed Kelly, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, costume designer Philip Heckman and sound designer Pitsch Karrer. The production stage manager was Peter Lawrence.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theater community, since 1988 Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has raised more than $300 million for essential services for people with HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and other critical illnesses across the United States.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the major supporter of the social service programs at the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), including the HIV/AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative and The Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts. Broadway Cares also awards annual grants to more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., providing lifesaving medication, healthy meals, counseling and emergency assistance.

I revisit this a few times a year. It *never* fails to touch me as it did many years ago, and, as corny as it sounds, it helps keep me centered. We celebrated our 41st Anniversary last June, but, you still need to ground yourself periodically.

12/31/77 That's when I got lost in Dale's arms. It lasted 40 years until he died. Now 45 years later, I still remember that night. The night I got lost in his arms. "Goodnight my someone.......good night. There you go....there you go" .

Jonathan - should you ever read this - please make a studio album with orchestra of show tunes and American standards with music like this. I would love to hear a quality produced cd album with your beautiful voice featuring male gender pronouns - romantic music for the rest of us.

I just watched and had the same reaction as +peerkbh. I had the pleasure of seeing Hamilton in September and Jonathan is amazing in the role of King George III. Such a talented actor, dancer with a great voice - true triple threat and needs a Musical written for him.

Groffsauce is amazing, but the sound ratio was way off in this. The instruments are way to loud compared to his voice :(

I love this song so much... so very much... especially Tony Bennett's version... I only wish that I could have been allowed to hear a psychologically... romantically... and erotically appropriate version like this sometime before I reached my current age of 65... rather than having to sublimate and transpose for all those many many many years... but I guess better late than never.

A solid performer, and quite expressive. Certainly not a great voice, however he does well with what he's been given.
The balance is off, the singing too soft and the piano accompaniment is way too loud.
