- Driving test? You need this driving test walkthrough. I take you around a driving test route at Wanstead driving test centre with Eva and show you how to pass like a driving instructor. Eva tries to be a mean driving examiner.

I passed my Wanstead test in 2022 when I was 67 years old - I'd been on motorbikes for 50 years by then and had decided it was time to finally have a bit of comfort!
Yours was the first channel I looked at before diving in and taking car lessons and thanks in part to your channel, I managed to pass first time as you'd shown me that it was ok to be a bit more relaxed in a car and not be so 'uptight' all the time.
My Wanstead route was a bit different to yours and went via Redbridge, Gants Hill & Charlie Brown's roundabouts and generally stayed out in that area, although you did tackle Charlie Brown's at 11 mins so we were similar there. You are both right - there are some lovely parts to Wanstead and not too far up the road you'll find yourself fully in Epping Forest which is fantastic too.

Well am with u man... Am doing my test there as well I have a lesson booked on my test day as well a couple of days before ... Been grinding UA-cam for test routes, tips and tricks there... So far the only issue aside the round about there is the speed limit... Hopefully that wither away the more research I put in...

@@Alovedhuman not that time, i got 1 major and 1 minor, unfortunate because it was a sticky situation that was hard to deal with on my test, but the roads are always unpredictable! but its okay, i managed to get a second test for a month later and passed with 0 faults! :) x

Great video. Wanstead is a very busy centre and can be tricky to navigate particularly at the roundabouts. You made it look easy!

Lovely to see you in Wanstead. i used to live in nearby Walthamstow so know that area pretty well. It's a gorgeous place for long walks, esp during Covid with Epping Forest right there. That pond you drove by at the beginning is Eagle Pond and probably that "castle" Eva saw was Snaresbrook Crown Court, which is next to it. Great to see the 'Stow again.

I passed in Wanstead I feel Wanstead is easy to pass along as you practice consistently in the area🤩. The examiner I had you pass me was a female she was so lovely. Buy I do know another one who isn't nice at all and refuse to pass my step dad. So it does depend on who you get.
After watching the video I realised this was my test route lol. Its really not that bad you just have to practice it and it becomes so easy.

Doing my test in Chingford next month (2nd attempt) and that dual carriageway/roundabout is so stressful. Though the second spiral one I'd agree is awesome.
Good drive Francis, Eva your a great examiner! Btw I was thinking at 2:29, the sat nav told you to turn right and then left and the floor markings said you can go both ways, why didn't you go into the left hand lane? Cause you would have exited on to the correct lane for the left turn! Great drive btw you absolute legends! Also got my test on Friday 7th June, really scared and nervous but excited at the same time. And of course, commentary all the time! 😊
Very good point, both lanes turn right so because the next instruction from the sat nav was to turn left if he turned right from the left lane he would already be in the correct lane for the left turn, it’s the same as a double roundabout, you plan ahead and you approach the first roundabout with the second roundabout in mind, so if you need to turn right at the second roundabout as long as the road signs and the road markings allow it you’d approach the 1st roundabout in the right hand lane and exit in the right hand lane, that way you’re alright in the correct position to turn right at the second roundabout and you don’t need to do a lane change. 🙃

I did my driving test in Wanstead, and I passed first time. I’d say what was game changing for me was practising all those clapped round about because you’re guaranteed at LEAST one of ugly one. My instructor and I literally did several reps of these
11:26 as long as you look at all of the road signs and all of the road markings spiral roundabouts are easy and great as you don’t need to do a lane change like on a normal roundabout, simply approach in the right place and you’ll exit in the right place.

15:00 you shouldn’t beckon anyone on even after you pass your test, if you beckon someone to cross the road and someone is overtaking you for example and you didn’t notice anyone overtaking you and they hit the pedestrian it would be your fault!

30:39 i have been practicing driving in wanstead. I havent practiced on this dropped right turn but would definitely doubt myself whether its the right decision. Maybe it would be a good idea to verbalise to the examinor

19:40 yes you must by law come to a complete stop at a stop sign and a stop line.
I would advocate the commentary as well, just to keep the examiner informed. On my first mock test, I had a right turn where you go half way first, stop in a box and then go. I didn't articulate that I was stopping mid way and my instructor slammed on the dual control brake, citing a dangerous fault. I maintain that it was safe and he was a tads jumpy.
Damn! Lucky it was just a mock test and you learned a valuable lesson for next time, and the real thing! Commentary really is so so useful

ETA: it did not go as planned. Focusing on the curb to park on the left, didn't spot the wheelie bin overhanging and clipped the wing mirror.

I dunno why some people fear places like Wanstead, busy areas or areas with weird roundabouts etc; driving in these areas make you a very confident driver

19:08 the blue car is about as close to a junction that you can park (don’t park opposite or within 10m of a junction, about 2 and a half car lengths) but the silver car has literally parked on the give way lines, definitely shouldn’t be parking there!
Beckoning the pedestrian accross once they are crossing no need to watch them personally I would keep an eye behind for filtering motorbikes. Yes its thier responsibility but personally personally i would feel guilty if I didn't warn when could. I had situation few months back someone crossing when stopped in traffic wearing headphones kept an eye on my right mirror as im in a van he definitely couldn't seev the bike and if allowed him tto continue the potential of getting hit was high. So i did give a gentle beep they stepped back as the motorbike passed the gap. Im not sure if would fault if beeping a pedestrian going to step into danger. Even though their responsibility you stop behind behind to allow a safe passage to cros. People shouldn't pass you that's ti say they won't

Also, engine idling law, rule 123 of the Highway Code, drivers must not leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessary while the vehicle is stationary on a public road but no worries mate, there are never any police around these days! 😜

The iPad and the high vis were indeed a prop to add a bit more nerves to the situation to push on a few mistakes through stress. It kind of worked!

Wanstead driving examiners are moody and it has the lowest pass rate in east London. It’s alright to drive there but learning in the area would make it a lot easier
This is true. I failed twice at Wanstead and went on to pass at Goodmayes. The routes aren't particularly difficult at Wanstead but most of the examiners are not nice and i feel like they're out to fail most people and pass a minute few, as per their quota. Hence the low pass rate.
