      @@georgeshelton6281 George Shelton: Hello; sorry, I am confused. I don’t know who Susie K. Shelton is. I’m not religious. I’ve been to Japan about 27 times. The only religious trend I recall learning about regarding Japan is Buddhism is common, unlike Christianity which is more common in America. The only religious details I recall hearing from any Japanese person I have talked to was a lady who told me the last time I was there that she is a Buddhist. I have mixed feelings about Saturday Night Live but I also don’t recall seeing any cast member on that show I knew was Japanese. How does Susie K. Shelton, Christianity, Japan, Saturday Night Live or Peggy Willman relate to this Monkees feature in the video above?

    Monkee brothers. We lost David in 2012 Peter two days ago. I was still processing Davies death, I know that sounds strange but it still is shocking to me. And now we’ve lost Peter. Peter. I can’t just celebrate his life just yet. I am so very sad. My condolences and prayers are with his family and friends and all who loved Peter. I as well am still processing Davys death. I have been researching and reading about his death and the time leading up to it. its really heartbreaking. his last wife abused him and hurt him physically & mentally. I guess the most gentle & humble people this happens to. she had been jailed prior to their marriage for the same kind of thing and Davy was her 3rd marriage at age 30 something. He protected her. i think he must have realized she had mental problems and just tried to take care of her. me on the other hand would like to see her imprisoned for Everything she has ever done. God Bless Davy. He is safe & healthy now and i will see him in heaven.

      His light is brighter than ever in this world today. I'm watching him now. By the way the day after Peter passed we were playing Monkee records all day. My son & I were walking inside the house at the back door was a Cardinal bird at the door blocking us from entering. Flapping there for what seemed like a minute then it scared us and flew in our face. A few minutes later my son pointed to the cardinal sitting on the window sill looking inside at us! Absolutely amazing! Yes it was Peter Live & Well!

    Great Interview. As an avid Monkees fan its refreshing to see some "new" questions asked. I had not heard of this show since I live in the US. Davy was taken from us all far, far, FAR too soon. Michael Nesmith had a lot of other projects going during his post-Monkees tenure. He was the CEO of a video production company, executive producer of music videos and films, and still did music. It's not possible for him to just drop all of his commitments all the time and go out with the Monkees on the road. I wish people would GET this fact. And considering Mike had Don Kirshner telling him at a young and impressionable age that he was talentless without Kirshner, it's a wonder he wants anything to do with it at all.

    • @nmtg
      @nmtg 3 роки тому

      @excelsciors I don't think you have the full story. Mike and some of the other Monkees have been asked this question about Mike's absence in the many touring years and it has been made clear that he had a company and a business to run. That business was extremely successful and lucrative. It would have been a huge challenge to do the tour and run his video company. Mike is informally considered one of the fathers of MTV. He also wrote and directed the Monkees tv special in the 90s. If you look at their careers, you'll see that Peter and Micky did many other non Monkees endeavors. However, (only my speculation) I'm guessing that for them they may have realized that it was more lucrative to tour as the Monkees. I totally respect them all. I think young Mike got a bit of a reputation from knowing and expressing what he wanted earlier on. Sounded like he had better business sense too. All in all, seems like they worked quite hard.

    The Monkees were formed to make a TV show. They did. After the show was over/cancelled, staying the Monkees was optional...to wit Mike opted out. The other three enjoyed being the Monkees, but Mike no longer did. Now, to think it over, I would rather NOT have Mike in the Monkees - if his heart and soul was no longer gonna be in it. Also, he did not need the money after his his mom passed - she invented White Out...what an empire Mike inherited.

      Well, as far as all that goes, read your first sentence over again. Considering that, it's amazing these guys got together as much as they did over the years considering how it all started. Personally, I think it's a disgrace they haven't been put into the Rock and Roll HOF. Oh, they didn't write their own songs or play their own instruments? (Speaking of the first two albums, which contained the bulk of the successful hits). Well, tell me what songs the Supremes wrote and what instruments they played! The Monkees started out a manufactured band, that's true, but so were bands like The Ronettes (a Phil Spector creation) but they're in the HOF.

    It has been said, many many many times that Mike was hired because when all four of them were put in a room, their chemistry just worked. Now, 45 years later, the chemistry has obviously died...his character was the "straight" guy in the group. His chemistry/personality worked 45 years ago on screen, but apparently, his chemistry changed. This happens sometimes...on stage as well as off stage...

    Mike Nesmith comes across to me as someone who takes himself too seriously and no real sense of humor as well as self oriented. Makes me wonder why they ever hired him to be apart of the original series to begin with and who thought he would be a funny guy in "The Monkees" series. To bad, they would have been fine as trio or getting one else. Even David Jones has been known to comment that he has always been "aloof" of it all.

      You've clearly never watched or read Mike's interviews or seen "Elephant Parts." In fact Mike is a very funny guy, with a very wry sense of humor. His Monkees screen test is actually very amusing and brash; you can see exactly why Raybert hired him.
      Mike had that joy of being the straight man who is also allowed to be funny. Go back and watch him sing as "Billy Roy Hoffstader" in the episode "Too Many Girls" and pay attention to what he's doing with his eyes, demeanor and faking not knowing how to play "Different Drum." It's pretty hilarious. I also can't look at Mike playing Monkee Man without laughing my head off. He looked ridiculous and because he played it so straight, it's even funnier. He's the Groucho Marx in the group, the necessary guy to balance out all the zany stuff. If he wasn't there you would get worn out watching it as a viewer.

      Meghan Adams Mike inherited $48 million in 1979. His mother invented and patented Tippex, the liquid paper, and sold the company to a corporate giant (i forget the name). She left him all that fortune when she passed away. So, yes, Mike doesn't really need to work....the lucky man!!
