  • House Tour of a fully restored Victorian Farmhouse. Mary Beth Evans of Days of Our Lives fame, literally knocked on my door one day to find out who the designer of the renovation was - it was me! So I let her in of course and this tour happened! Love MB - we had a blast chatting & touring. I think you will enjoy it too! Tune in...

      The wood in this house is/was only paint grade when it was built. It was never intended to be bare/finished wood. The owner made that point.

      Yeah, I understand wanting to "lighten up" the interior, but I'd feel too guilty being the first person to paint over nice woodwork.... if the wood was already painted, then I wouldn't feel bad giving it a fresh coat!

      @@wkjeom while I personally liked the wood in the before photos, I see your point. However, it’s not like she had to splish-splosh gallons of white on practically *every* surface.

      @MySoulfulHome  5 років тому +1

      Why would you assume the wood work was nice. It was awful, mis-matched and paint grade. Victorians with huge budgets painted their wood work. The original painted color from 1886 was dark green. Really no need to panic! :)

    the homeowner is ecstatic and loves doing this home renovation challenge . I love what she has done with the house ....light, elegance, relaxed, easy colours on the eye nice balance. Colours are on the cool side which is her own personal style . Colour can be added. Too many colours can be busy. The simple palette makes it look more spacious and a bit modern mixed with period antique. Nice balance ...It is slightly Nordic Scandinavian in its colour choice not southern but northern in taste. Personal styling . Love it all. Well done thumbs up completely.

    the talking is okay they're both totally happy and enjoying sharing the experience of home renovation. The palette is relaxing and easy to live with . More colour can always be added slowly if wished. It's more shaker lightness than Victorian darkness which can be a bit heavy and claustraphobic. She has opened up and brightened the whole interior space which is very nice new and old together. Perhaps more stylish and relaxed sophisticated than fussy busy Victorian.

    In the many articles I've read and restoration shows I've watched, I've heard mention of the newell post lights from the Victorian era and the consensus has been that it was part of their "over the top" decorating style. If something stayed still long enough it got adorned. What I have heard and seen regarding a mortgage pay off symbol is a piece of Mother of Pearl inlaid by the lender into the newell post of the home. It was a big deal and many people would have a party to commemorate the event. Can you imagine how expensive it would be to install and wire a light into a post after being built even today?

    I love this house and that tin ceiling and chandelier and beautiful fireplace pillars ... Soo gorgeous! I love houses with porches wrap arounds are my favorites. She didnt show that part yet but so far it is so pretty. I love tiny houses but victorians and cottage are my very favorites. Oh my goodness that sink the marble and stove. ❤ She has done an amazing job. Love the arble through out the piece over the youngest daughter's bed soo pretty. I wonder if she said how much she paid and put into it?

      Actually Michele we came in only slightly over budget. Nasty word, budget. I am frugal for sure & figured how to get the look I wanted for a lot less than you might guess. Living in saved a ton of $$ as well. Not only the cost of renting another place, and moreover not making costly mistakes here. I saw each thing, as painful as it was sometimes to watch, as it was happening so could make adjustments on the spot if necessary. I really hope you see this comment. I dream of fixing up an old house just as you did, so I have stumbled upon this tour two or three times. Tonight, I was watching the movie "Rumor has it" on Netflix, and I noticed them stating the setting was Pasadena. Keep in mind I live in Ohio. I remember vaguely you saying this home was located in Pasadena. Thats really one of the only times I heard of Pasadena, so that is what I thought about when I heard it. And sure enough, there is a scene in the movie where your house is seen plain as day! I said there is no way, but upon further investigation, it is your house! That is so neat to me and I think it is so cool for you to own such a neat property!
