What a gorgeous home! If you like wallpaper you should totally look into some of William Morris’s historic designs, I think they would fit your home beautifully 😊
I love victorian homes. You are fortunate to have such a beautiful one. I lived in one (built 1893) in San Francisco for 30 years. The woodwork was redwood but was faux grained to look like oak. The fireplaces were functional but difficult to build a fire in because they were originally designed to burn coal. The lighting was originally gas lit so every ceiling had a plaster medallion in the center to catch the rising soot. The double parlors and the dining room had oil on canvas ceilings complete with cherubs and butterflies. The Victorians loved rich saturated colors which were susceptible to fading so the windows were often covered in heavy drapes. Hence, cut crystal, gold leafed frames, polished silver, etc. were popular to help bring in some sparkle (as would brightly polished door hardware). I think the idea of replicating the urn ornament to make newell decorations would look like they were always there. Wishing you and your husband all the best; you'll gave a lot of fun making it your home.
Hey! I live in the city. Mission Dolores, unfortunately not a Victorian. Maybe one day but I have rent control so probably not moving 😅 Where’d u live?
Scarlet! That house is absolutely AMAZING! LOOK at that kitchen! And that room for your office? The fireplaces are incredible! I am just over the moon excited for you and I haven't even gotten to the crazy part of the attic tour yet!
Wonderful! Thank you for the house tour, it was very exciting to see all of the rooms. In my mind I decorated my own future home. The last owner has a dark humor for leaving you the sceleton and the horses. I thought it was hilarious but I can imagine that not everyone would be excited about that :D I'm looking forward to see how you decorate everything and congratulate you for a dream that came true. I hope you had a nice yule and thank you for the Pagan Happy Hours. I always listen to them on my Saturday morning walk and it has become a very nice tradition. Greetings from Germany!
I was looking at a house very similar in Savannah, Georgia a week ago. If you are looking for ideas for decorating Victorian, but unique, a lady Christine McConnell on UA-cam has done a awesome job on her home. Thank you for the tour. 💕
Christine's house is gorgeous from the outside, I want to see the inside. She has a double front door that is really beautiful-I heard the reason why they were designed like this was because in the past they would hold funerals in the house and these type doors would accommodate the casket. Considering its Christine's house now, it's kind of fitting isn't it LOL!
@@icemancometh8679funerals were commonly held at home... all homes in the US at the time. But yes the doors were often wide. I have two doorways 37” wide and 83” tall. Births and deaths were at home. It’s more natural but many think of it as creepy nowadays.
I’m absolutely in love with your new home!! I can already see your vision come to life. I’ve always wanted a historic home like this one. Maybe one day! Can’t wait to see the journey in bringing this house to life again!
Stunning!!! My parents have a beautiful Victorian house, it is unfortunately in a bad neighborhood. They live in the Northeast and have many of the same features. So happy for you to have such a beautiful space to enjoy. The satellite 📡 is also easy to remove. I took two off my house that were no longer active.
Love the house and the wrap around porch. Your living room is going to be amazing when done. Oh and that tree out front is whimsical. Congrats on the house, looks beautiful.
So beautiful! The charm just ooze’s out of it!!! The 2 bedroom would look beautiful in a deep teal to match the sink in bathroom. Your room would be beautiful in a deep emerald green like you said. All gorgeous and cannot wait to see what it looks like when you’re finished with each part!!!! So jelly!!!
Congratulations!! It's a beautiful home already, I can imagine that you will make it even lovelier! I live in a 1926 southern bungalow and I can attest to the fact that there is *always* something to fix! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Wishing you and your husband many happy days in your forever home. ❤️
I love room separation. I dislike all of the open concept homes today. I love all of the wood. I will never understand why people paint over it. I love the house.
Absolutely gorgeous home! It has some really good bones! So excited to see your journey with restoring and decorating in your new space! Did you notice that the stain on the inside of the attic door looks like a hand print?? The horse's in the attic reminds of a little girl who would go play up there, like they used to back in the day!
Beautiful southern home How fun it will be to decorate the entire home over time. I would looking into historical wallpaper dark colors for paint. I'm so surprised that fireplaces are not functional . Well worth restoring .
Congratulations again, Scaret! 😍 The fireplaces are my absolute favourite feature and your bedroom would look beautiful in an emerald green to match the tile 💚 I can't wait to see what magic you'll coniure up in your new home 😊
OMG. The second of my favorite UA-camrs to buy a new home. First there's Rachel Makesy with her New England farm compound that's so gorgeous and her studio will be in one of the old barns on the acres of forested property they have and now Scarlet who's gone from generic apartments across the southwest to a BEAUTIFUL Queen Anne home in Savannah!! 😍😍😍 Congrats. Old houses such as yours with its traditional wrap around porch (I'm glad you noticed the haint blue porch ceiling, I'm about to paint my porch ceiling haint blue as well in my cottage - we pagans tend to worry about things like discouraging ghosts 😁 ) need to be rescued and celebrated for its old touches. I love pocket doors, SO convenient and space savers to open up areas. I love every single part of your home, even the scary attic and all the interior windows to let in light. I like the one in the pantry as well. The stained glass is just gorgeous. A good sized yard would have been nice (I'm thinking Practical Magic), but nothing is perfect. What I've found difficult about old houses (my cottage is nearly 100 years old) besides all the mundane thing like not up to code wiring, inadequate outlets and places for modern appliances, rotting floorboards, and toxic things like asbestos and lead paint you invariably find, is that the original planners didn't plan for beds and couches or the scale of modern furniture. Few rooms have a wall without windows or interior doors. Like your bedroom. I saw two walls with windows, a wall with a door to a bathroom, a wall to the hallway and a wall with a door to a closet. I remember thinking - where are they going to put a king-sized bed? Still I would totally enjoy the challenge of making such a beautiful home a castle. Have fun. You might think about starting a 2nd UA-cam channel on your home renovations. I'd watch it.
We have a Victorian house that needs a lot of work done but glad we don’t have that many stairs inside cuz my son has me going up and down them all the time lol. Beautiful house, the porch is amazing. We have a wrap around porch too. Our house came with a piano.
I am overwhelmingly happy for you!!! It fits so well. All I can say is whenever you can, restore rather than redo or refinish. Blessings upon you and yours and best of luck with the new home!
Congratulations on your new (old!) home! So looking forward to seeing how you furnish and decorate it, especially how you use the mantle space. I predict a lot of altar feasts for the eyes in the future!
This is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. The long leaf heart pine throughout is phenomenal. The fireplaces will serve as great altars. As for the painting on the wall … it’s got a great wooden boarder … you could paint it a flat colour and make it a mirror with a bunch of broken mirror pieces OR commission someone to change the painting as it is a cool feature. Keep as much of the iron hardware as you can. The stained glass window can be repaired … you may want to encase it in glass only due to the placement right above the loo. The Hobbit Pantry & 2nd pantry are perfect storage space. If you can try to save as many doors as possible. Sand them down to see what’s on the other side of the black door or red door. The office is super bright and would thrive with a bright colour with warm tones. The yellow of the master could be lightened and matted and would look lovely in your office! The tiles on the fire places & Cast iron protectors are fab! Love the emerald or forest green choice for the master!!! You could do a baroque style wallpaper in the master bathroom. My jaw is basically on the floor as I watch this house tour!!! Dream house!!! I just renovated a home almost exactly the same as your home. The comfort and holiness is adorable! The breakfast nook/patio upstairs is beautiful!
Beautiful home! If you want to preserve the wood, you can use wood putty to patch up holes and scratches. Most types of wood putty can be stained with wood stain as well
Wow! My husband and I are closing on a victorian style home this week, also built in 1905. We are on the eastern shore of Virginia next to a historic railroad system. I'm so excited to have stumbled on your channel because this is exactly what I'm looking for. The layout of our home is VERY similar to yours. Speaking of weird things... the previous owner of our home died in the house last year. She had a wedding dress boxed up for a wedding that didn't happen and the box was left in the upstairs closet even after the estate sale. And our upstairs attic has names carved into the beams dating back to the 1940s and 50s. Can't wait to see your home updates!
Can't wait to see what you do with the house! It's such a beautiful base to start with and your style seems similar to mine so might be copying some of your ideas 😜😅 Congrats on the new home!
Girl this house is adorable!! Everything about it is just so nice! Wow congratulations! I would love to own a Victorian house as nice as this one day!!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I am originally from Savannah Georgia and it’s very haunted. Beautiful place and you have a beautiful home, I know exactly where it is and it’s an active location. I’ve ghost hunted for years and a psychic medium and would love to investigate it. Your very lucky. I know you will enjoy it there. If you ever need and investigation just shout lol.
You are so, so, so lucky to have not only to have all the original fireplaces, but the original tiles!!!! And the hardware on the pocket doors!!! The tile in the bathrooms!!!
It's gorgeous 😍. I'm a fool for old Victorian homes. I grew up in one that was built in the 1820s. Was haunted but beautiful. I've seen the over the door window things here in Indiana in one house. Love the floors too. I also want a fig and peach tree! Possibly elderberry bush too. Claw foot tubs are heaven. Very spacious. Enjoy It's fabulous!
@@icemancometh8679 It was built in the 1820s-1840s. When we moved in there was what looked like a gravestone under a tree. It always had flies around it. Dad took it away but we had the feeling he shouldn't have. Our house was the only one in the neighborhood that was swarming with bats around the chimney . No matter where you patched it up, they always got in. Things fell off shelves, walls, and broke. Doors slammed. You knew you put something right where you'd left it and it would disappear. You tear everything apart looking and go back and it's sitting right where you knew you put it. I started to see a woman in an old fashioned wedding gown but her face was blurry as if fog. I was little, but I asked my sister who was in high school about it, she got quiet and said yes but figured everyone would think I was lying. The next thing was a dark shadow. It snuck in my room and outstretched its arms I ran through it screaming. Nobody believed me, except my sister and grandma. We had a wood stove. Well cared for. My parents worked 3rd shift. Me and my sister were alone. Everything was OK with it when we went to bed. I wake up to Dad screaming "Are you ok?!!! Can you hear me?!!!!!" Every window and door is open. There's smoke everywhere. The stove somehow got to 900 degrees and was backing up smoke in the house. Had he not gotten home, we would've died. You'd hear footsteps on the stairs and yell for someone and nothing... more than once we saw something staring between the stairs railing. I was shoved down the stairs on Christmas day. A gas leak happened later and had my dad not stayed in the car and called the gas company, they told him one flick of a light would've blown up the whole house. It was always complete chaos and bad luck. Fighting, debt, cheating, my sister running away. Both parents tried to commit suicide several times. Finally it got auctioned but nobody stays long, if they do, they seem to face losses.. sometimes deaths.
What a beautiful home! You’re going to have so much fun making it your own. I love the hobbit pantry, kitchen, and front porch! I bet you can hire someone to fix that stained glass window which would be so worth it! 😍
That downstairs bathroom, you can basicly go as wild as you want, bold wallpaper, lights, paint and so on. And masterbedroon, you could never go wrong with emerald green. I love your home, my compliment to you.
Beautiful home! For an emerald color check out Behr Green Agate. We painted an accent wall in our living room and love it! Also can you post a video again in the spring and summer when all the trees and plants are green? I think that would be beautiful ❤️
That's a beautiful home ❤ The reason for the doors is that the warmth was kept in the room they were using so it made it more efficient to close out each space.
First time seeing your home, oodles of character, nice choice for the newl post, worked on quite a few of these styles of homes in Boulder Co same vintage, liquid gold is a great wood treatment for the trim, cast iron counterweights on the windows, hav not broken a single antique glass pane yet, those pocket doors are no fun to work on, floors look awesome even though it's a year I'm sure you are cozy now. Enjoy
Congratulations on your new home. Really enjoyed the tour. It will be exciting to see some of the progress as you work on it. Seasons greetings to you and your husband and all the best. Love your videos. Lisa (UK)
I absolutely love your home! I’ve always loved old Victorian homes and antiques. I agree with keeping the original woodwork. Wow a skeleton in the attic! Lol That is creepy. Again your home is wonderful! I agree green in the master bedroom would be perfect. Please do have future video’s on the work you’ve done.
This is a beautiful house! You are so fortunate your fantastic wood was not painted! That would be tons of work if you had to strip paint from it. There is tiger oak on the two downstairs mantels! Just gorgeous. Pocket doors are part of the Victorian lifestyle, but for anyone not stuck on the modern "Open Concept" idea, they work fine for today. They were used to close off the formal reception rooms to keep them clean for guests, but also to conserve heat in the winter for rooms that weren't used everyday. The pocket doors could be opened to allow for people to mingle when they had larger parties, and often two parlors were opened up for dancing. And then my favorite part: opening the doors to display your dining table, all set with china, candles, and flowers for your first big dinner party. You seem like a kindred spirit, and I'm sure green and red color combinations in wall paper and paint schemes will look terrific. You'll want to check, but I think your fireplaces would have been coal-burning, if your house is in the south, and they have those black iron fire box covers. Hope everything is working out for you. You seem really sweet.
I clicked on your video because your house looked amazing. I subbed the minute you said Yule lol. I'm also Pagan. First, your house is truly amazing!!! I can't wait to see what you do with it. Basements usually creep me out but yours didn't. Second I will definitely be watching your other videos as a fellow pagan. 💖💜💖
Craftsmanship and pride in work is a thing of the past. People used to take the time and pay attention to the little details. You have a beautiful home. I love it. Congratulations 😊 - make sure you get a person qualified to inspect those chimneys before using. Don’t want house fire. .- I’m an electrician by trade and I have rewired a few of these old homes. They are a challenge but fun. If you have a idea or want something done don’t let a contractor tell you it can’t be done. With a little more work and time There’s always a way.
It was worrying when that happened in my home as the electrician had to rewire the house, and worrying that the dust in the walls he was kicking up was asbestos or lead paint.
Scarlet is a good name in Savannah and for the year of this Interesting that your name is Scarlet like in Gone with the wind, my favorite movie Very nice Did you buy the house already remodeled?
Wow!!! That is the most amazing and stunning house. You don't have that much work to do in my opinion.so spectacular! How fun it will be to decorate for all the seasons. Definitely needs period looking lighting ,some grand chandelier's .please continue to show us the progress on this grand lady. Oh! An emerald bedroom sounds enchanting. I cannot get over the beautiful metal works of art on the fireplaces.a show stopper of a house.
I'm glad you have this home. It's nice that you appreciate the character and history. I'm guessing the ghosts in the attic will be more likely to be friendly if you don't throw away all their horses. An old home's list of repairs is never done, and most take more time and money than it seems they should, but I believe it's worth the effort, so long as you take it in stride, which it seems like you are. Congrats and I look forward to the next tour.
I am remodeling my home in _Queen Anne / Victorian_ one room, one piece at time. I've decided to do all the mill work myself after seeing what some of the shops charge. I needed the excuse for buying all those new tools anyway. I am going with damask stencils rather than wallpaper. I have childhood trauma regarding wallpaper.... Both installing and removing. I am looking forward to seeing how this project unfolds.
Another reason for painting the porch ceiling blue was to prevent wasps from building their nests. The wasps think the blue ceiling is part of the sky so they wouldn't build their nests there. What a beautiful house! I love that doorbell! Imagine how wonderful your house will look on Samhain--I can see the jack-o-lanterns already!
Ooohhh I love this so much!!! I grew up in a Victorian home in San Francisco. Savannah has always given me similar vibes to SF.. I’m considering moving there one day. But I definitely would want to live in an older home with lots of character
Enjoyed the tour! Was expecting a back staircase, no? Love your youthful enthusiasm. Reminded of myself in 1978 when my partner and I bought an Arts and Crafts home in a Michigan city. We spent years returning it to its original condition and style with period furniture. After 35 years we sold it and moved to south Florida. The new owners had apparently watched a lot of HGTV. They knocked out walls, ripped off the kitchen porch to make room for parking, painted the fireplace brick, etc. I have two suggestions for your garden. I was able to grow American holly in my yard; Old Heavy Berry. Should grow well in your area. Very compact, pyramidal growth and in early spring, the cedar waxwings ate every berry. I also made a stone circle. I brought the stones to Florida but the options of seasonal plants were much greater in Michigan. I have pictures if you have an email.😃
Thank you scarlet showing your house or should i say a mansion. You have a major renovation project there. May be an idea to do video of the renovation project from time to time.
Congrats on your new home! So lovely that the details have been preserved. We have an 1887 Victorian semi-detached home in Toronto. How about looking at some Benjamin Moore historical paint colours? Sometimes it helps to see what colours were popular when your home was built. 😊
I would get a big sculpture (like a simple human figure) for the front entryway that can be decorated and adorned for the many different pagan holidays and festivals that reach across a year.
I was thinking of a bronze bust of a favorite patron god/goddess or household spirit for the bannister. It can be decorated with head wreathes or other adornments for the seasons or holidays.
I would check for a hidden bar compartment behind the fireplace mirrors. Especially the dining room fireplace since you noticed it's scratched up. I've seen it in a couple of victorian homes.
Oh wow what a gorgeous Victorian house love love please keep all the natural wood throughout the house yes I would stained glass the triangle window going upstairs ☺️ be blessed thanks for sharing
I absolutely loved the tour of your Victorian home. Thank you for sharing the interior and your restoration dreams. The unpainted woodwork is amazing! It is difficult, however, to imagine the real beauty without a few exterior long shots of your new home to compliment the interior. Who is the architect? Thank you for the upload---I really enjoyed your vid!
Oh my gods your house is just stunning congrats!! In the last house I was in a did the living room in a dark blue and it was absolutely amazing! So definitely second the dark blue or even a dark green!

Beautiful home. Thank you for giving a tour. I hope you give us updates as time goes on. The porch is amazing along with the fireplaces.
You are so, so, so lucky to have not only to have all the original fireplaces, but the original tiles!!!! And the hardware on the pocket doors!!! The tile in the bathrooms!!!
Lovely home. Left me with a little sense of Deja vu. Have fun renovating and decorating.
Omg I´m so happy for you!! It looks amazing and charming, the perfect house for you!
We want to hear more about your house being haunted.
@@lindsaydavis4796 😱 Wow! What great grammar and spelling!
@@icemancometh8679 Thank you. 🙂. Not many appreciate that these days. Mostly people who are technologically skilled.
Congratulations! What a beautiful house! Amazing :)
Wishing you a happy Yuletide season, with much thanks and gratefulness for you in my heart. Thank you for all you do for yourself and others. 🎄❄️✨
Beautiful home! For an emerald color check out Behr Green Agate. We painted an accent wall in our living room and love it! Also can you post a video again in the spring and summer when all the trees and plants are green? I think that would be beautiful ❤️
That's a beautiful home ❤
The reason for the doors is that the warmth was kept in the room they were using so it made it more efficient to close out each space.
Congratulations on your beautiful home!! I’m so happy for you! I would love to see a tour of the final look when you finish!
Lisa (UK)
Congratulations Scarlet! You have a beautiful and interesting home!
Love love love old houses and things! I can't wait to see what you make of it. Its so big!!
A deep emerald green would look so stunning with the trim and floor in the primary bedroom
Amazing house, congratulations with your new home :) Can't wait to see it once more after all arrangements are complete
There is nothing like an old house! I'm totally excited for you. The horses on top bothered me the most, and surprising.
Wow this is my dream house! It's so beautiful
Craftsmanship and pride in work is a thing of the past. People used to take the time and pay attention to the little details. You have a beautiful home. I love it. Congratulations 😊
- make sure you get a person qualified to inspect those chimneys before using. Don’t want house fire.
.- I’m an electrician by trade and I have rewired a few of these old homes. They are a challenge but fun. If you have a idea or want something done don’t let a contractor tell you it can’t be done. With a little more work and time There’s always a way.
Thanks! And yes, I'll definitely be getting a professional to inspect the chimneys before I try using them. :)
This house looks so cool! Makes me want a historic home someday
Your house is beautiful! I’d love to see updates as you make them.
Gorgeous home! I like the art deco dining room idea. Refreshing to hear from a pagan. Good luck with the renovations. New sub! 👍😎📷🔥🇨🇦⭐
It goes to show that these “modern” designed homes are really gaudy. I couldn’t imagine, nor dare to paint that beautiful wood trim
Thank you for showing your beautiful home! I hope you share how it’s decorated for Yule!
I would love to see an updated tour now that you've been there a while!
Congratulations! Enjoy the adventure!
That's a fun idea :)
I was thinking of a bronze bust of a favorite patron god/goddess or household spirit for the bannister. It can be decorated with head wreathes or other adornments for the seasons or holidays.
Very beautiful home!!! I would love to see how you will change the details and decorate the house:)
I would check for a hidden bar compartment behind the fireplace mirrors. Especially the dining room fireplace since you noticed it's scratched up. I've seen it in a couple of victorian homes.
I grew up in Ga. Always heard the blue ceilings on the porch is to prevent dirt dobbers from building nests…..
Beautiful old home...so glad no one covered the beautiful woodwork with white paint......
Your house is so stunning! Congratulations!
Beautiful home! ...I had always heard the porch ceilings were painted blue like the sky to fool the birds from nesting in the corners.
Oh wow what a gorgeous Victorian house love love please keep all the natural wood throughout the house yes I would stained glass the triangle window going upstairs ☺️ be blessed thanks for sharing
Congratulations on your new forever home! Blessed be
I hope you will be sharing your decorations for the seasons.
Just joined.
Love your house .
Glad i found your channel
I absolutely loved the tour of your Victorian home. Thank you for sharing the interior and your restoration dreams. The unpainted woodwork is amazing! It is difficult, however, to imagine the real beauty without a few exterior long shots of your new home to compliment the interior. Who is the architect? Thank you for the upload---I really enjoyed your vid!
Oh my gods your house is just stunning congrats!!
In the last house I was in a did the living room in a dark blue and it was absolutely amazing! So definitely second the dark blue or even a dark green!
