  • Bass player Randy Nauert recollects the playful atmosphere on the set that day. Brian Jones was playing a cat and mouse game with director Joe Agnello by sticking his tongue out at the camera. Note in the photos how close the cameramen are to the band. "The Last Time" took more than one take because of Brian's tongue. Brian did however win the game as you can see in both "The Last Time" and "Play With Fire" videos.

Brian Jones was the ultimate mid-1960s Dandy.
Many tried to imitate his look, but few could carry it off with such aplomb apart
from his good friend Jimi Hendrix. A gifted multi-instrumentalist he had it all, during
the early period of the Stones. It didn't last sadly.
He has been gone for 51 years, but he is still fondly remembered even in the 21st
    Century.

@@JaraArtist Briefly,..what's rarely talked about is Brian's very likely involvement with the occult. I believe Anita had in an interview said Brian was a male witch with the inner thigh tatoo; Tony Sanchez talks of how Brian mentioned using occult for sexual kicks; Mick Fleetwood (pre fame) would hang out with Brian and others attending seances,; Anita with Tara Browne's wife (Noreen) had done the pins in a doll very effectively on Brian; Brian saying that Anita had cast a spell on him. Given Brian's dependence of drink and drugs, his paranoia, bad acid trips, interest in esoteric arts, Pan, Jajoukan music, his musical rise and fall...and then his reading of the family Bible (perhaps on the road to true Peace shortly before his death) does suggest demonic oppression/involvement. Mick must have been laying in wait, hey, it's hard to get a gig when your the only gay. Midnight Rambler was another big Jones song. Notice the studio version with Brian on the main guitar riff. like Monkey Man, another song about his life, Jones on keys, the list is endless. He played the harp in the early days.Fast vibrato, Mick never got it. He played Sax on the Beatles "You Know My Number' Piano with Muddy Waters band on What, "The Grinding of the Meal? I forgot the tune. But it was a big honor. No Brian did not have the stage presence of The two Native American blooded wild men, Mick and Keith, but behind the scenes, he was the Stones. His mother taught piano and he was ,well, 2000 Light Years ahead of his time and the rest of the band for that matter.Jumping Jack Flash is another Stones classic that was peened by Jones, as was Ruby Tuesday.Beggers Banquet had him on mandolin and violin. Unheard of even now.Think McCartney, Hendrix, Jones if you want the best of the best.Singers, Joplin, then mabeye Morrison. Hey this is art, it's just my opinion. I'm not a decorated critic. I was a neighbor of Janis Joplin and her Hell's Angel man, Ron "Pigpen" Mckernan, and got to meet and learn from these all time greats. You'll also notice that though great fantastic tunes, the Stones hit's by Mick and Keith did not really chart in the top ten like Brian's sons did. “Had Brian Jones not taken his guitar to this cellar bar…impressed Alexis Korner with his playing, relocated to London and formed The Rolling Stones, the world’s cultural history would have been very different. There would have been no pop industry as we know it today, with its ever present musical acknowledgment of the influence of the blues. The pentatonic minor scale, which can be heard ad infinitum on countless electric guitar tracks recorded over the last six decades, would probably rarely be heard. And countless young people who came of age in the 1960s, including this writer, would never have become fascinated by a sound originally created by the descendants of black slaves in the Americas.”-John Phillpott, Blues in Britain, 2024

    1974? Dance Little Sister,...It’s Only Rock’n’Roll (But I Like It) (It’s Only Rock’n’Roll),

1978? Miss You ...Beast Of Burden... Shattered...(Some Girls)
    1980 ? Emotional Rescue ( Emotional Rescue)\
That was one hell of a "DRY SPELL" these poor guys endured after Jones was gone for good huh?.
Any band you could think of would have been ecstatic to have a "dry spell" like this partial list shows...

Brian was an amazingly talent musician, not appreciated by Mick and Keith
Without Brian there would not be the Rolling Stones
To hear Mick and Keith disparaging about Brian is injustice. He named the group, hired Keith and Mick. They were jealous of all he was and what he gave them.

Brian being naughty is primarily between he and Mick in regards to Brians guitar head stock being in front of Mick in the camera angle. It seems to me that Brian did not care for Micks grabbing his guitar and then after that he would antagonize Mick by continuing to do it and also overemphasizing the movement of giving the ever attention conscious Mick his camera angle. Mick continued to give dirty looks to the end of the song 1:51 to end of video. Mick also was cornered in on his left by someone dancing. Lol

I've always liked The Last Time more than the overplayed Satisfaction. Brian Jones had that swagger and and edgy bad boy self confidence, the others in the group emulated. Brian wrote The last times catchy driving hypnotic guitar riff. The riff demands your
attention, much like the police car alarm inspired guitar in Steet fighting man, several years later. The Last Time in my opinion is the first heavy metal song. The Last Time appealed also to Americans with its country western barn dance feel. The song has been covered by numerous country artists over the years. The Last Time put the Stones on the map in America 1964. it was the prelude to the bluesier more commercial Satisfaction which later followed in 1965, that catapulted them to stardom. In my view, The last Time is more significant to launching the Stones to stardom than Satisfaction. Since it layed the groudwork for Satisfaction. No Brian Jones,The Last time guitar riff which got everyones attaintion, no Satisfaction, no Rolling stones. In a word,
No Brian Jones, no Rolling Stones

Brian & Mick were the ones that put the band together. Brian was a leader when the Stones 1st got together. Later,, things really went BAD when Keith took away Brian's girlfriend. It was the end of Brian with the drugs / alcohol. Mick & Keith wanted him out of the band because of his drugging & failing to play up to their standards. Funny how the leader was virtually kicked out or was already on the way out when he drowned.

Jagger spend his time to protected him from the agressions of Brian guitar, pretentious and vicious. For the myth of

It's hard to be great at one thing when you're doing many things. Brian was picking up a new instrument to learn all the time. And then working it into their songs. He doesn't need to apologize as a musician. How many instruments did the rest of the Stones play?
