I'm 37 and now considering of joining since the age was raised to 42. I wanted to join at 19 but family talked me out of it. Biggest regret of my life. I need to get myself in shape and join
This is much like my story. I joined the reserves at age 35 and met others my age at REBI. I would have preferred a longer indoctrination than two weeks. I regretted not joining after high school and feared that opportunity was gone after several calls to recruiters, few billets were open unless you had a particular skill. Then I called a recruiter in West Virginia and I was eventually in Cape May. My background was a CPS worker and was placed as an SK. I later lateraled to BM. I served on special call ups for flood and hurricane relief. I was activated three times after 9-11, the longest being in Port Arthur. TX. I retired from my home unit, MSU Huntington WV.
As a Reservist who is in my early 30’s I was selected for the Depot program. I had already planned to be away from work and family for 8 weeks so I elected to go through the full boot camp instead. I enjoyed the challenge and feel like I worked just as hard as the active duty members I work alongside.
Thank you for your videos! By far the best channel on CG roles/info. Could you possibly share some information/interviews about what OCS is like? (civilians vs. enlisted, group size, intensity, age ranges, changes since COVID, etc.)

In 1984, the Prior Service program was directed for prior military and those young people in JROTC or Sea Cadet who achieve rank. I was a product of that. It would have been a waste of time to spend time in forming and "learn" military bearing. What we did have to do is 4 weeks of indoc, meet the physical standards and pass service requirements. I was bummed to learn that the program had been replace and heard that prior military has to do the full 8 weeks. That would be a bubble bu burst er to me if I was prior service signing up.
