Hey, I’m in high school and I am planning on joining the United States Coast Guard. I want to join an MSRT and be an ME. I’ve also heard of scholarships in college that I could apply and become a reserve member. How does that process work?
@@jasonnguyen350 I’ve heard they’re seriously considering getting rid of the ME rating. You may want to look further into another rate because if you wanna go ME you’ll be waiting 4 years or longer, and that’s if they don’t get rid of the rate all together. I wanted to be an ME when I first joined, but after going to my first unit I realized MKs and BMs do the same job and more that MEs do and you can definitely go to MSRT and MSST as an MK or BM. I decided to go the MK route. Been working out great so far and I waited like 1 month to get orders to A School.
@@joeplanter7959 thank you so much! I really wanna be in for at least 10 years. I really want to get into a MSRT and MSST. I’ll work for it and I want to skip A school lines so going to Bahrain is something I also wanna work for. This really means a lot to a high school kid.
@@jasonnguyen350 Well if you’re trying to go ME then going to Bahrain would really be the only way to do it at this point. I really do believe the ME rating will go away soon so I wouldn’t get your hopes too high. But you’ll find this out when you get to your first unit. You’ll see a lot of what other rates do and you might find one that interests you more or is an alternative to going ME that has much much less of a wait time. Trust me you won’t wanna be a non rate for too long, especially if you get stationed to a cutter for your first unit. Just my two cents.
@@jasonnguyen350 Also over ME and BM I do believe MK will give you the most benefits if you’re trying to stay in for 10 years because you can do a lot with MK when you get out. A lot of companies like MTU who work on the main Diesel engines for many cutters like to hire former MKs to come work for them because they already have pretty good knowledge on the system. And those guys make big bucks. If you go BM you better be staying in for 20 because there’s little to no opportunities when you get out, I would say pretty much the same for ME, there really aren’t many civilian alternatives unless you want to be a police or other type of law enforcement when you get out. With MK you’d get knowledge that not a lot of people have and it would set you up to do a lot more when you get out. MK also does a lot of law enforcement, possible even more than MEs do. I know this because I was on a National Security cutter as a nonrate and I can tell you from experience it was the BMs and MKs that were always going out doing OPs on the small boats, you rarely ever saw the MEs going on it.
I was in Bahrain, KNB, and the Arabian Gilf obviously, on the Walnut. First USCG in Iraq! Tried to go back too! Lol didn’t get picked to go back before I got out though unfortunately.
Hey man, love the Chanel. Just bought your book in preparation for boot camp. I plan on leaving in September of next year. Thanks for the motivation and lots of knowledge. Semper paratus
I really enjoyed this and all videos, i want to join the coast guard but im still in the process of removing my hand tattoos. I cant wait i have a lot of time to prepare
Dam you spending all that time and money on that when you could just go to the navy but I guess your heart is set on being in the coast guard I just don’t think the tattoo removal process is worth it when u still have another branch you can join without all of that
@@UltimateGenosyko I just received a notice from my BM1 on my cutter about going to Bahrain. I'm filling the PW out now. There is no certain wait time after boot. Its whenever the coast guard gets notice that they are accepting non rates to go. You have to be qualified before hand on going to Bahrain.

You Should make a video talking about the cutters in the South China Sea.
Hey, can you please interview a Health Services Technician? I can’t find any videos or extensive information about this field.
The wait list is like two years
Yes! Would def be up to see a video about the HS rate. There aren't many videos out there about them
Do a video on how to become a diver and diver A school
Do they have CS’s in Bahrain? Thx.

Wonderful work
This video also ended up in the Weird Al playlist. :-(
It would be useful if you could help shed light as to whether or not a BM or MK can do MSRT or TACLET.
Yes to both MK/BM at msrt and taclet

Depends, Navy law enforcement is unfulfilling at best.
So can you go straight out of basic training
No
@@militaryjourneymen how does one get selected? how long do you wait after basic training to be able to go?
