@@Cruz7471 nah, in terms of RPG games like octopath, you cannot say you know that RPG unless youve actually played it. Theres so much things that go into RPG games, the grinds the quests, etc. Unless youve watched some dude stream who literally caters to the commentators comments i.e. if I tell you to talk to that NPC you talk to that NPC, or if I tell you to buy that god damn potato 1000 times, and you actually buy it. Thats like saying, because Michael Phelps decided to livestream an entire swimming session for 3 hours magically, you know how to swim.
@@factspeaker8518 Sonic 06 is notoriously known for being bad, but the reason it is that way is only because many people talk about it. Octopath doesn't have that same luxury, you can't know the specifics of what you're talking about unless you've played it yourself and have firsthand experience with it, else you're just joining the crowd and bandwagoning based on conjecture, rather than actual facts and experience. That's not journalism, and it certainly doesn't make for a good review or critique of someone else's.
This is my favourite video among all your critical content. it's wild how it definitely fell on deaf ears for many people, even your own fans. I mean seriously it was downright ironic when the "i stop listening to dunkey" template they meme it to death, yet they're guilty of the same behavior when you gave your thoughts on The Last of Us 2. Its like sometime when people talk shit, they dont look at themselves in the mirror.
This makes me legit kind of scared how he managed to Address reactions Address backlash Re-affirm his opinions Address and defeat attention whoring "exposé's" Address toxic fallout of a comment section Talk about his main point And be funny all in 5 minutes. Editing can do magic but at some point it's more about flow and addressing everything without cramming or rushing things in, dunkey is a master of that.
He didn’t address the backlash at all though. He just nitpicked at the guy saying he hadn’t played octopath traveler and ignored all his points, including the point that explains why it doesn’t matter that he hasn’t played octopath.
Pretty much, I ignored all of the warning signs about Anthem but still bought it and was disappointed but I forced myself to play that piece of shit so I didn’t look like such a dumbass. Am still dumbass.
We all do, when we think something is good/bad we check the general opinion to see if it matches our opinion and then, if it doesn't, we may state if we agree or disagree. But that's how things should work, there's actually nothing wrong with that. The problem comes when someone isn't able to listen or to accept other's opinions and just rant about how wrong others people is in a way that doesn't add anything to the discussion.
People also need to remember what dunkey said about the consistency of a reviewer If dunkey reviews an RPG that he says he doesn't like but you're an RPG fan, then it's probably gonna be a good RPG for you
I think they should stop giving scores in their reviews and just present reviews as they are. When you attach a number to something, the number attracts a totally different attitude toward the review. After all, no one wants to be associated with low quality stuff. And due to human nature, people consider scores lower than 7 as mediocre. Hell many consider 7 mediocre. However, reviews are subjective so I think that using numbers to grade any game isn't really the best way to grade it. What they should do instead is to should write a whole review about the game listing the pros and cons of the game and then leave it to the viewer to judge whether he/she should buy the game.
I would agree but Dunkey said he absolutely hates JRPG combat and RPGs in general so it's not even a fair review. He's going to go into it inherently thinking, "I probably won't like this" and that's going to change his perception of the game. I honestly don't know why he would even think about playing it because just looking at the game it seems like he would hate it. Yeah he said he likes Persona 5 but that's basically fuckin Pokémon and most of the time the game isn't even a challenge.
@@bevvvy1374 He explains that in the video; even going into a game you don't think you'll like, you may end up finding something you really enjoy about it. I bought Ori and the Blind Forest on a whim because it was on sale, thinking it would be some artsy story game, but came out with one of my favorite metroidvanias. Lots of people that don't like action RPGs or super hard Dark Souls like games took a chance with Monster Hunter World and loved it.
I remember when I was upset with your review for Death Stranding. I had a personal connection to aspects of the game. It provides structure, and my life didn't have that. Slowly figuring out how to navigate a harsh landscape, although boring, in the long run was something very satisfying to me. I could relate to those long 'walks', whenever it's getting over bad thinking patterns or forgetting someone you loved. I associated those emotions and sensations of connection with the gameplay, and I felt a need to defend it. You didn't have my perspective, and you couldn't have. A lot of context is tied with Death Stranding and why I like it. The story sucks, none of the interesting ideas are articulated in any meaningful way, and progression feels more like a haul or chore rather than something I looked forward to. I'm a nutball who has so many hauls in my own life and feel a deep satisfaction over getting up that hill and seeing the sunshine. How structures are printed, the sounds in the interface, the sorting, stacking, and planning allowed my unstable mental structure to follow patterns I could understand. But your review was not wrong. Not at all. Death Stranding is boring and a post-apocalyptic blue collar simulator is not very appealing like Mario, Uncharted, Battle Royales. The slowness and careful, methodical gameplay is something I find fun, but I understand how that is not appealing.
I think it's important to realise that at the end of the day, video games are made to be enjoyed and give someone a good experience. If a game managed to resonate with just one person then, even in the most insignificant way, it succeeded. You can argue about 'game feel' and 'immersion' all you want, but fun is fun, and nothing that any critic says can ever change that. You can step back and look at any game and notice the flaws but nothing beats the experience - sitting down and actually playing the game.
@@EmKunWeebGaming I've played Octopath Traveler. I disagree with Dunkey. It was pretty good. No, wait, the game I played was called "Octopus Tablature." I've never played Octopath Traveler and have no opinion on it.

@@chandlerruoff6866 That's the problem with his Octopath Traveler video, though... It isn't objective criticism at all. It's him attacking the entire JRPG genre because he hates it. He also proved numerous times during the video (and with the notorious snail thing), that he didn't even have an understanding of *how* to play it.
yeah seriously, how are you gonna talk about a game and be like, well OBVIOUSLY he just doesnt see all these great things about this game i've never played
He just read the comments on Dunkey's video and saw all the people who enjoyed the game yet can't handle criticism and anyone who says anything bad about something they personally enjoyed has their opinion automatically invalidated. @@antoniomendes7961 Yeah cause that was the consensus for a long while and even now anyone who even remotely defended the game was shot down by people for running the SJW agenda or having no taste in games, when I read the leaks I was in the same spot and was giving the finger to anyone who was defending the story but then I got the game and connected the dots, put some context behind those bullet points and it all made perfect sense to me and I'm on my third playthrough now. I only watch 2 gaming channels who have similar taste to mine one of them being Dunkey and they both gave it just a little something less than full marks even though Dost Kayaoğlu who does this job around 10 years admitted he did his best to downrate the game so the audience won't target him but it just would be unfair to rate even less than what it is. You are nitpicking and biased, I win. Bye bye.
People also need to remember what dunkey said about the consistency of a reviewer
If dunkey reviews an RPG that he says he doesn't like but you're an RPG fan, then it's probably gonna be a good RPG for you
I think they should stop giving scores in their reviews and just present reviews as they are.
Just wanted to say that you're the man.
Have a good day my brother
I think it's important to realise that at the end of the day, video games are made to be enjoyed and give someone a good experience. If a game managed to resonate with just one person then, even in the most insignificant way, it succeeded. You can argue about 'game feel' and 'immersion' all you want, but fun is fun, and nothing that any critic says can ever change that. You can step back and look at any game and notice the flaws but nothing beats the experience - sitting down and actually playing the game.

Have you taken the chance to actually look at the clear as day evidence shown at 1:23? His argument is about as dismissive as he claims other game reviewers are.
By the way, I haven't played Octopath Traveler.
Imagine your whole life and identity being wrapped up in a Weeb JRPG
@@mammutmkii7242 That's a very fair response and I actually would agree with it. My main concern still comes from how he dismisses it in a negative light and calls it a lie, when it clearly isn't. If he had left it at that It would have been fine but from what I've seen he's trying to show that the defending person is lying and/or in the wrong, when all he tried to do was defend a combat system that was poorly explain (which again is alright for the context I suppose)
Need a part 3 after all the twitter beef this year lol
Sorry dunkey, I usually agree with your perspective, but I really feel like you are nitpicking and biased, I win, bye bye.
No you, I win bye bye
