Video Suggestion: Advice for solo play on the various missions. E.g., for Escort, did you know you can order Bosco to guard the drilldozer by clicking it with the laser pointer. This will cause Bosco to stick with the dozer and prioritize bugs attacking it instead of ones attacking you, while you are free to go fill the fuel canisters, mine nitra, etc.. (You can also order him to guard the hacking pod on Sabotage, though that's less game-changing since there's no pressing reason for the player to leave the area during that mission phase.)
I would always recommend against solo driller specifically. Killing the floating rocks is near impossible if you don't bring the epc or subata, and even then...
1. It is common to use the refuse phases to revisit caverns Dotty drilled through without stopping and collect minerals and secondary objectives. I've been told by other players that you should always fill and deposit both fuel canisters first, because the game is less aggressive about attacking the dozer with bugs after its been refuelled, but I haven't been able to confirm it. 2. It is possible to mine oil shale with the pickaxe or explosives, causing it to break into (non-collectable by dwarves) chunks, but this is much slower than just mining it with the canniter's beam. However, hitting one of these chunks with the beam causes it to be collected instantly, so if you already have such chunks nearby, it's worth collecting them first! (However, due to the slow movement speed when carrying the cannister, its not worthwhile to go out of your way to collect chunks on the ground unless there's a lot of them in one place, e.g. because Dotty mined out an entire oil shale deposit on her way into the cavern.) 3. There is a strategy called pre-drilling, where, before releasing Dotty from her landing unit, the team's driller drills a dwarf-scale tunnel through each of the caverns. (Hint: The caverns will always be on bearing 220 from the spawn point.) Since bugs won't attack Dotty before she starts moving, this lets the team clear out the other caverns, collecting nitra and other resources, without worrying about anything other than the occasional random bug wave. (If you're really dedicated, you can even pre-mine oil shale near the expected stopping point.) However, this strategy is controversial, much like bunkering.
As an addition to point 2: when lasering the oil shale, you can focus on the parts of the vein connecting it to the wall, thus carving most of it loose so it drops as those chunks, youre then free to suck those up nice and quick.
One tip with Scout is that you can instantly destroy the tip of a laser pillar in the last stage with the grappling hook and a power atack. If you have a good driller and Gunner it isn´t necessary but you can do it.
Escort Missions can get insane. I have fond memories of realizing, "oh shit, this game is hard" after a Bulk Detonator spawned and the whole team almost died.
Once fully repaired, doretta has a few seconds of invulnerability. It may be useful to wait on repairing doretta until a big swarm shows up, or a detonator showed up. Another tip, the oil laser has more vertical range then horizontal.
(im a little bit late 😂) Another smoll tip - Heartstone is actually always on SW (if you look at the top of the screen), so, if needed, you can always "pre-drill" to Omoron, get all the recourses and maybe get some events on your way
Engineer can also build a platform roof on top of doretta to defend against flying rocks. It's also important that if your engi does this you should stop shooting the rocks and focus on the bugs.
Note that the big explosion at the end of each phase destroys platforms inside its range (which is slightly smaller than the size of the crystal floor), so you can't pre-build the roof; you have to put it up after phase 2 starts. (You can, however, prepare by building a platform walkway at the right height from the nearest wall to the edge of the affected area, saving time later.)
At the start of the mission, before you start Dotty, you can sometimes see the next cave on your terrain scanner. If you have a skilled driller, you can John Henry your way to the heartstone before Dotty starts moving. My driller friend and I did this when our third guy was AFK for an absurdly long time. We got to one cave, cleared it out, saw he still wasn't back, and decided to keep going.
just yesterday i was pinged to hell while playing engineer to put a damn roof above dorretta to shield her from all falling rocks. It was genius and i havent found someone talking about this mission saving advice.
I certainly enjoy engineers with repellent additive platforms in escort duty. Its so easy to place a couple platforms on the edge of the crystallized ground at the heartstone to severely limit where bugs can go to reach Doretta (i set 3 a side and the bugs basically always have to go to the Heartstone 1st before they have a clear lane to reach Doretta). Just be aware if you have a plastcrete catalyst engineer possibly opening holes in the repellent line
This mission has been updated with a phase where a player gets encased in a ball of rock. Visual cue: a "chain" of stones targets the player. DO NOT STAND ON DOTTY WHEN TARGETED! Or at all, during this phase, just in case. When the rock ball forms, it one-shots Dotty's layer of defense. Stay safe, Rock & Stone!
I mentioned this on the mining expedition video but you didn't really touch on it here; This and ME are the only two types of missions that are arguably truly linear in terms of progression. Most missions are actually open ended, or at least partially so at first.
Engie tip bring your Repeller Platforms - In any single point defense mission I always bring Repeller platforms. This includes in escort. Repeller pads help create choke points in the fuel and final stages of the map. Otherwise your Gunner and Driller will have to fight a swarm coming from all angles. When bugs are grouped up Driller, gunner and your own weapons are much stronger. plus outside of the ceiling technique in the final wave that doesn't always work your not going to be using them much. Just advise your teammates to not stand on them very long
The Scout can quickly break the tip of the Ommoran Beamers with the help of Engineer's Platforms during the final phase. Plasma Burster Missiles Overclock for the Gunner's Hurricane are able to easily destroy the floating rocks in the second phase, same goes with the Scout's and Driller's Explosive Reload SMGs and Pistol.
True, but if your engie is gonna be aiming at the pillars anyway a well aimed shot with the PGL will take care of the problem quicker. Scout can also hook to the top of the pillar and just power attack it mid air to make quick work of the problem. Driller is ofc driller so pillars are an easy fix. And any of gunners primaries, but especially the hurricane is also great at destroying the tip of the beamers. That combined with what you mentioned above probably makes plasma hurricane the best weapon in the game for escort missions.
@@TheSpeep That's assuming if the Engie's running PGL and have ammo to spare and I'd rather use the PGL to blow up bugs. Platforms with grappling hook is cheaper & easier to use. Ofc Driller can blow up the pillars easy same with Gunner.
I really am enjoying your series on this aspect of the game. Your presentation is professional and entertaining. Something that I haven’t seen on UA-cam is a detailed summary of which Perks a best on which Mission/Biome? I realize that Perks are a bit subjective. But certainly some Perks are just better for certain Missions? Maybe an idea for your next series?

Yeah he can be pretty useless at this though, sometimes ignoring a solo grunt until you get back and start shooting it.

Or as engineer you can make platforms from the curved claws(?) and just mine them.

True, though the rocks do damage the platforms so its important to keep an eye on the roof and repair it when necessary if you do this.

Literally just brought Doretta's head back for the first time today, I'll be doing it every time from now on. It's vital.
Excellent.

always get dortta back at all costs
We need to save dotty!
unnless you cant find her but in that case ım sure that karl would take care of her
Very organized and interesting!

I've played these missions with people who abandoned her. I went back to get her and the other players TK me. Monsters
You forgot about the importance of taking doreeta back to the scape pod

thank me later

This was great! Thanks for the videos!
I Hope your channel grows, really good content ❤
Thank you so much!
Another tip is that the last segment of dorettas health has 3x the health of the other two segments

With the Engineer, if you bring the grenade launcher you can destroy the tips of the laser crystals
First like, and first comment!
We saved Doretta!
I hear c4ing oilshail makes it faster to collect.
I will have to try that at some point thanks for the tip!
If only you could hand a C4 to a scout to quickly get it up to any annoying oil shale deposits.
@@craigfunk3453 Imagine "handing" C4 to a scout and not using it the moment it touched him.
