This is an awesome tutorial that I really needed! I have to do a holiday animation for my unit at work (the Dean) every year and I'm a bit of a newbie to AE so this is a HUGE help to me!!!! THANK YOU! Your tutorials are always so well explained and easy to follow.
I think the biggest thing I learned from this tutorial is the layer replacement using alt. There have been so many times when that would have been helpful to know and I'm sure it will be helpful in the future.

Hey! I I wanted to thank you for this tutorial, it worked perfectly. I only ask you for those people who are starting in AF (als me) if you could the keyboard shortcuts write them as text in the video. Thank you anyway!
How are you selecting multiple layers (around 9:17) to make the copy - but the three layers you select are not all 'next' to each other in the timeline? I know if you hold down the shift key you can select multiple layers, however I cannot get it to skip over a layer to select one below and can't find that info on how to do that. Thanks!

Can you please Help? I tried shift clicking to select layers, but it selected the world layer as well? i t happens in the part where you say you are in the duplicatiing stage? Is there anyway to select specific layers, like you did in your video?

do you do this for a living, and how many hours do you think it takes at AE starting from almost scratch before I could attract customers you'd say?
All depends on what you make. If you want to work on feature films it will take years and years, if you want to edit a cool video for your neighbor you can essentially start right now.
azfiu, in case you dont know it: go to videocopilot net , they have AWESOME tutorials for getting started, getting intermediate and the pro stuff. and pretty much everyone seriously into after effects was inspired and taught by andrew kramer, because he is genius. (sorry josh, your tutorials are awesome as well but I think everyone should know andrew)

there are no shortcuts bro, you just have to start making stuff, sharing it with people, and eventually someone will say "can you make this for me?" , and that's when you reply "sure it will cost $$$" set your prices base on the time it will take you to make that. if you can't deliver on time and what you quoted don't take the job.
i did learn AE from 3 weeks ago and i learned a lot from this channel. and yesterday got my first client and received $$$.

Do you have to have AE CC? i have Cs6 is that a problem?
I like this, but how come when i try the elipse tool, it becomes a mask? And its black, and i cant move it?
That's what I'm trying to figure out.. Every time I try it, my solid goes black :/
