  • This video is a follow up to my original video discussing the issues I have experienced with my Sony A7 IV and the overheating in the menus and video recording. The good news is that you can solve, or at least my menu overheating was remedied, by changing the Auto Power Off temp from Standard to High.
Below are my solutions and time stamps.
    Overheating Solutions
Set Auto Power OFF Temp High
    Lower file format resolution
    No direct sunlight
    No steady shot
    No WIFI/Bluetooth
    CF Express card
    Disable Proxy Recording
    Flip out the LCD screen
    Use a tripod vs handheld
    Time Stamps

    Test/Results - 4:28
Auto Power Off Temp High - 5:40
Auto Power Off Temp Standard - 8:59

Thank you for your videos addressing this `problem`! Did you hear from Sony by now? And do you think Auto power off temp set to high could reduce the cameras lifespan?
Btw just for additional information regarding the menu `overheating`: Most camera menus (as far as I know) are an overlay. Meaning that the sensor (especially when switched to video mode while browsing the menus) has to downsample 7k in the background. So there are two potential heat sources. Im sure this could be addressed with a firmware update...
But generally speaking I think it's odd that Sony is the only manufacturer which implements auto power off temp setting. I´ve heard this could be some sort of legal issue with people suing Sony for low temperature burns. But at the other hand manufacturers like Canon have even worse overheating problems (R5, R6) without a similar setting.

I have not heard back from Sony yet.
With the overheating I was surprised, especially playing with an R6 for nearly a month before the 7IV arrived. I had no issues whatsoever with the R6 with overheating.
Both cameras are amazing, but I prefer the sharper images on the A7IV. I've also had a slightly better hit rate with the focus on the A7IV vs the R6.

:)))) You realise that if all the solutions were talked before people buyed the camera, Sony a7 iv would be considered the epic fail of the Sony corporation all time. It is unacceptable and Sony apply what is known in the business "if no one sues then we pretend is ok". The reality is almost all the Sony are faulty and the cost of repairing means faliment. So probably they will soon release ironicaly Sony a7 iv mk2 with better stability at higher temp. I think I will send back my unit because all the solutions you and Sony proposed are inacceptable at the price this camera cost. Quality Department should be fired.

I am hoping they have a solid answer for the cause and a solution sometime soon.
