      @@JoeNDBAVIATION MYSH made a great video explaining the difference between the tech. There is 4 techs available (from low to high end) : Ball & cup gimbal, pincer gimbal, cam axis gimbal. The 4th is about adding force feedback. Most of what you showed on that video are just ball & cup gimbal, who are mostly low end gear sold at mid end gear price. For the rudder, i really like the VKB version. It do the job and can be modded to make it doing more stuff.

    16:26 Overall good presentation. However, I have to take issue with the idea that "all rescues have worked out pretty well for both". The US Dept. of Agriculture tested Spot extensively for use with remote firefighters and similar. They found that it worked pretty well with clear skies, good weather, and no trees overhead. But in adverse conditions, it failed more often than it succeeded. These are publicly-available documents and you can look them up. The power difference between these devices is NOT insubstantial. The first few generations of Spot transmitted with 0.4 watts of power. Later versions use 0.2. Garmin InReach has 1.6 watts, and PLBs transmit with 5.0 watts of power. Plus all three use different satellite networks. If you research those networks, I think you'll find Spot to be the least robust. But both Spot and Garmin use sats in LEO, which means those satellites can not see the entire US at one time. They come and go every 90-100 minutes, constantly "seeing" a particular patch of ground. When they come over your messenger and receive a distress signal, they then have to continue along their orbital path until they can "see" a ground station, where the signal is passed on. So there are two separate delays inherent in Spot/Garmin operation. PLBs do not have this limitation. They can access a 3-layer satellite network with sats in low earth orbit, medium earth orbit, and geosynchronous orbit. In the US, there are 2-3 NOAA satellites overhead at all times at 22,000 miles altitude that can "see" the entire country 24/7, and can receive/rebroadcast PLB distress signals at once. Essentially, 2-way satellite messengers are nice to have, and can serve as distress beacons in a pinch. If I were choosing one today, I'd recommend Garmin as superior to Spot. But in a true emergency where beacon reliability could mean life or death, PLBs are definitely the best choice.

    Hey there, sorry for asking the endless question: "what to buy in my situation", but i am really lost, and i have a bad habbit of buying wrong and need to buy again. First of, i am 47 from Denmark, i had 5 Brain surgeries that did alot of bad stuff to me.. i lost hearing on left ear, cant use left eye and all my left side feels a bit off, and something happend to my sleep center so i never feel rested, i am tired 24/7.. Only reason i say this, is because i like to try microsoft flight simulator 2020/2024 but i like to play the game with alot of help. i was told that you can play microsoft flight simulator in more modes or something, i understand this as there are a very realistic sim mode, and more or less an Arcade mode, where you get some help with things like landing and that. If this is the case, i was hoping i could play using only a flight stick, and no other things, and if so, what would be a good one for a "flightstick only" setup ? i dont mind paying for more if that is needed or a huge upgrade, but i would like to pay less then 300 euro's if possible. I used to play some flying sims back in the days where the Graphic were so bad that only take off and landing was fun, but i was thinking it would be amazing to fly around in games today where things look so much more real.. I got an i5 12600k and a 4070ti and tons of nvme ssd's, i guess that is ok for 1080p gaming, i just need the damn flight stick :D Any help would be amazing, i read you dont need the "padels" if you get a stick that can twist, so i guess that is something it need to have. else i have no clue.. :S - Michael PS. I would like to be able to fly all types of "machines" in the game, but since i never played the game, i dont know what i would like the most.

      I am very sorry to hear of all of your surgeries. I do have a suggestion though. I would recommend that you start with the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick. It is simple and inexpensive. You should be able to judge how much you enjoy MSFS with that joystick. If you find that you truly enjoy MSFS and you wish to upgrade, there are other joysticks to utilize. I give you this recommendation first so you can see if you will enjoy the sim. I hope this helps.

    Awesome story! I recently bought the PLB400 and hope i never need it. About a year ago i was on vacation in Tennessee hiking in the smokey mountains. I ended up slipping and falling off a 30 foot cliff and broke my left leg. Luckily my iphone 14 has sos via satellite so i was able to use that and got help but it was kind of not the best thing to use. When i used it i had to answer a few multiple choice questions that popped up such as who needs help? You or someone else, then the type of emergency such as sickness, traumatic injury, vehicle issues, ect. Then it asked me if i wanted it to notify my emergency contacts, then it told me to point my phone towards the satellite and it had a little thing showing me what direction to point. I had to hand it to someone else who was luckily there with me so they could point the phone at the satellite and send a message explaining the situation and wait for it to send as i was unable to move very much. The messages were sent to the apple relay center who then eventually contacted a 911 center who then dispatched us park police, the forest service, and a rescue team. There was a second time i had to use the satellite sos for someone else after i cane upon an over turned vehicle in the mountains with no cell signal and the driver was ejected from the car with traumatic head injuries. This time i was messaging a local 911 center directly via satellite but the dispatcher was sending the same question ls multiple times as there is a delay sending and receiving messages and im guessing they didnt know that at the time. i assume depending on the location and the local 911 center's technology you might get the apple relay center or you might get a direct link to a 911 center. Either way both times i was able to call for help and help came but both times i feel like there were some unnecessary delays. I feel like the delay with the questions and talking to the apple relay center and having to point it directionally to a satellite and them contacting a local 911 center as a third party on my behalf was an unnecessary delay. It did work out even under heavy tree canopy cover however i purchased a PLB after these events as it would probably work a little quicker, easier, and more reliably.

      You can set the bindings for the keyboard as needed or leave them default. I was also using the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. With that attached via an adapter, you can easily change views.

    Glad you did a video on this. P-Factor is my biggest complaint about the realism in FS2020. I use XPlane 11 and find it to be so much more realistic. It really bugs me when I go to takeoff and don't have to use the rudders at all it seems in FS (yes, I have auto rudder turned off). I wish FS was better, because by all other accounts it's a better sim in terms of graphics, anyway. But I feel if I'm going to be practicing maneuvers, Xplane is where it's at. How MS got it so wrong, I just don't know.

    One thing I had a question about is why Honeycomb puts the ignition switch on the right side of the enclosure when the Cessnas that I’ve flown the ignition is on the left. I would say in the name of realism that it would benefit the student to have it on the left side. My instructor taught me to run the throttle full power leaving my hand on the throttle. My left hand is on the key switching from left-both-right-both then pull throttle to idle.

    • @JoeNDBAVIATION
      @JoeNDBAVIATION 7 місяців тому

      It is a balance of all the general aviation aircraft. There is no one side that will be perfect for all owners, renters, students, and operators. What model Skyhawk are you flying that you start it with full throttle? That is not a method I ever taught nor required for any C172. Other aircraft, there were a few.

      I’ve flown the 150, 152, 172 and 182. I guess I didn’t explain clearly. I was taught to taxi to the run up area, apply brakes and push the throttle to full leaving my right hand on the throttle in case of an emergency where I need to immediately return to idle. At full throttle and left hand on the key I do the mag check and then pull back to idle.

      @@douglashornick4388 Understood. I might be a bit fuzzy, but i thought all the sub 200 hp Cessnas had a suggested power setting of 1700/1800 rpm for the mag check? Maybe double check the POH.

Flying a real Cessna 172 using rudder pedals much easier. I've tried changing the response curves on the Thrustmaster pedals which helps while in flight, but not on ground. Tried setting up some dead zones. Not sure if I should use Catmull, linear, or cubic or what those exactly do. Current response curve data is: Interp Mode Catmull ROM 0.0 0.0 0.49 0.06 0.65 0.13 0.86 0.38 1.00 0.89

      @@RichardSattin The ground tai physics seem a bit over baked in the current run of X-Plane 12. There might be a change coming in 12.1 that could address this issue. In previous versions of X-Plane, they have tinkered with the tire physics and made the taxi experience more realistic. This one seems okay, but I only say that when utilizing a large variety of aircraft. The light aircraft need a bit more work. With that all said, the response curves should be the easiest way to remedy your issue.

    Hello form Texas, I am new to Flight Sim.. I am also a new ppl. 160hr. I am going for my ifr and commercial right now, goals soon to CFI and CFII. I have downloaded X PLane 12 to help me with procedures. Is there a way to get the embedded 530/430 to have more real world functionality? It lacks a lot from what is in the aircraft I fly for training? Thanks in advance for any help. Great video, subscribed and following.

      To be honest it has been a while since I have utilized the 530/430 combo in X-Plane. I know they are “simulated” but what features are they missing vs what you are doing in the real aircraft?

    • @huntxtrm
      @huntxtrm 7 місяців тому

      I guess what I am getting at, is it is not a direct simulation of the standard 430. You cannot change data fields, some of the procedures are missing, etc. As compared to what is in my training plane. I am shooting for using this as a classroom for my trainer. And possibly once a CFI using it to train students and save them some valuable seat time. Are there plugins that can advance it? Or would I have to invest in a stand alone unit? @@JoeNDBAVIATION

    Your reviews are always very reasonable and contain reliable information. The spring-loaded start looks cool. However, Since I don't have an Xbox and have no plan to get one, it's just bells and whistles for paying $100 more expensive. So, aside from the spring-loaded switch and the number which is 400% more accurate resolution, were you able to feel 4 times better performance on this new product? Because specification numbers often don't connect directly to how you actually feel. If you could feel a significant difference, I'm going to have to increase my budget and wait for restocking. Thank you for the great review video and I'm looking forward to getting your answer!

    • @JoeNDBAVIATION

      Thank you for the kind words. To answer your question I used both my Alpha and the XPC I have at home. They both have different "feels" to them. The XPC is more accurate but it is more noticeable in X-Plane 12 and not so much in MSFS. If your primary sim is MSFS, you would be happy with the regular Alpha, but I would recommend adjusting the sensitivity and input curves to suit your personal taste.

      @jw8553 7 місяців тому

      @@JoeNDBAVIATION Thank you for the answer! I'm currently waiting for the Xplane12 discount while enjoying MSFS. I didn't know a program could change the accuracy. I'll keep in mind when it's time to make a decision.

    • @JoeNDBAVIATION
      @JoeNDBAVIATION 7 місяців тому

      @@jw8553 I wouldn’t say you can change accuracy, but you can fine tune the “feel” of the sim to your perception of how the plane should feel. MSFS is frustrating at times, to me, due to how it senses input and the way it scales the input. When you get to X-Plane take a look and compare how the axis (pitch, roll, and yaw) are received by the sim. There is a difference and to me it is noticeable, and why I still recommend X-Pane for training uses.
