Happy Birthday Sophie🎉. $88.00 a kilo at the fish shop in Rangiora yesterday ouch 😮. Just dipped in flour and fried in a pan with a little coconut oil. Dunedin has a great vibe to it so many young people around due to Otago University.
Wow thats expensive fish aye mate, we've had a few free feeds of blue cod on our travels been pretty lucky. We really enjoyed Dunedin, would be interesting to see it in winter, and we likely will see it in winter this year when we travel South again.
Great video Mike, such a beautiful area. Your right about many not taking or having the time to explore these areas, they are just the best 👍 battered fish for me, crumbed for sam 🤣 when do you guys head north on the ferry?
OH you guys have the crumbed and battered to aye... These places are so easy to drive past, there's so many options of places to go aye. I guess we are in the camp and chill phase, we've hit loads of the popular spots, now we're getting into the less explored. Hope you guys have some cool travels planned.
Oh so many places aye. We feel like we've done like a quarter of the places we could go, we are still trying to weigh up where else we want to see down in the deep south before we head north...
More beautiful images of some tranquil quiet spots. Great way to recharge after an emotional time. I can see you are all loving the longer days, warmer weather so you can make the most of it all.
Those Otago beaches, both to the north and south of Dunedin, are stunning. I think they're right up there with any of our NZ best kept secrets. I have unfinished exploring in that part of the world. Crumbed fish for me please! Southern blue cod is the best. You lucked out for your birthday dinner Sophie. Thanks Leopards. Another lovely video.
yea man, great comment, the beaches in these parts remind me of the far North, stunning sand and surf beaches... We all lucked out on that blue cod, so tasty, although it's a very soft fish. see you in the next one.
Yip so many places to travel to and explore Toko Mouth would be a good one any time of the year to get a spot... New years apparently is a squeeze, but where isn't
Thanks for sharing this. I spent in a stupidly large amount of time at Toko Mouth when I was younger (enough to make tired of it), and it's nice to look back on it from an outsiders perspective.
I recognised Barney's Island at Brighton in the thumbnail...I had to click on it LOL. I grew up in Brighton, magic place to be a kid in the '70s. Thanks for sharing.
Oh thats cool, it's a pretty cool little town Brighton, was definitley on trademe having a look at how much houses are there cause I could totally live there... Thanks for watching.
Yes! Lots of new places to explore next time I'm visiting the Dunedin office; thanks guys! Will be camping in Abel Tasman for New Year then heading down probably the east coast to Dunners for mid-Jan; might bump into you, who knows?!
@@leopardsgowild Cool, we're based in Collingwood 29th Dec for 5+ days so might bump into you there and then, or as we head through Nelson on the way South. Not sure which coast we're going down from there - see what the weather's up to I guess.
Another great video glad to see you back and on the road, im a real sucker for some nice battered fish can’t wait till your next video, you’re giving me a lifetime worth of trips I need to do haha
As a kid, a hot summer's day get on my bicycle ride out from Dunedin out to Brighton, swim, hire a skiff row on the Otakia river. Otherwise, with parents picnic at the domain head further south collect mussel's, then head across the hills on Kuri Bush Road, to my grandparent's home at Otakia, a great weekend day.
Blue Cod and breadcrumbs are the best. However the batter looks good also. Yum. Another very good episode. Great camera work and narration. Thanks for sharing. P&J
*A place called Sandfly Bay doesnt sound like it would look that great haha. Wraps are the easiest and best type of camping meal. Happy Birthday Sophie!*
Thanks mate, yip wraps are so easy, you can use them for every meal as well. I'm sure we have a few bays named Sand fly bay in New Zealand, luckily they don't like the wind to much.
Wow. Another great video. Sophie your birthday food was like Toby said. Very Yum. Well done to the cook. That blue cod looked amazing. Seals looked far from friendly but one lucky boy amongst the girls. Obviously didn’t want to be distracted. Good tip about Google maps. I’m coming South in February and driving my 7 metre MHome. Not really looking forward to some of those hills but low and steady is the answer. Enjoy your next camp. Travel safe 🤗🤗
the South island I feel isn't to hilly, I reckon the North Island has worse hills in it, other than the Alpline passes down here... Spot like the lewis pass are an easier tow than the Napier Taupo, or Napier to gisbourne road. Seals were a little less sleepy this time of the year, when we were around these areas in Feb mar, they didn't even move, just wanted to sleep, maybe they are in mating season???
I think we are all guilty of rushing around the South Island the first time we go... our third trip at Christmas/ New Year will be our slowest yet. 4 weeks, then another week to get from Wellington to Auckland.
Such a beautiful beach, just a bit upset that there are so many places you guys has been to showing “Dogs not allowed ”. Still South Island is a place Must go. Thank you for the well made video. Cheers
mate you are so right, so many places do not allow pets, dogs or cats due to the wild life in the areas. a lot of our followers have pets and feel the restrictions, it definitely can be very restrictive aye.
@@leopardsgowild about 40 years ago my dad and his mate worked at the piecart in gore which was towed by a tractor, still remember even as a kid, beautiful battered blue cod and big chips
@@vaughantutty2227 small towns don't go wrong aye, everyone knows everyone, can't afford a bad feed at the fish n chip shop, the whole town would know in a week... Growing up in napier we all knew the best spots to go for a good feed.

Awesome mate, glad youtube recommended us, trying to be an authentic and Genuine channel as we travel through our home land. We live in a pretty awesome place.
❤
getting thru a few videos aye.
Hoopers Inlet, Harbour Cone, Tow Rock, Highcliff Road, all good places to see.
sweet, around Dunedin?
@@leopardsgowild Yes, you passed by them.
Crumbed 🐠 for the birthday win.
Nooooooooooooo... cheers 🍻
Definitely crumbed fish for me
I must say crumbed food is pretty tasty... I don't know why they charge extra for it at the shops, crumbs are so cheap.

you should write a travel true NZ book.
I reckon we're getting a few good tips together aye, learning about some good spots to park up with power for cheap over winter as well.
Sandfly gets its name as the 'sand flies' (because of the strong winds) not the pesky insect.
well that makes a lot of sense as well, first time I've heard of sandfly bay meaning that, but it sure can get windy out there.

mate these long days are next level aye, daylight cracks about 4,15am darkness at 1030pm it's madness... Kids are struggling with so many awake hours.

Agreed 😂

it's a very cool spot, seems like one part of NZ we've been through that hasn't changed so much in the last 20 years.
BRILLIANT 😊
Thanks mate. Hope ya'll are having a good weekend.
Great video Mike do love those northern lights, oh, Southern lights. And that fish looked great. We like the battered.
go the south... Battered all the way mate.
Fantastic video but seals are not sea lions! They’re completely different critters.
Correct, I was waiting for someone to correct me on that one, sometimes you get it wrong on the Camera 📷 😅
