RIP #45, you shall be missed.
You may wanna watch the last 6 seconds of the video.
Spoilers dude! You are the top comment lol
45 was my favorite one... RIP
I thought it was the mushrooms that were gonna do him in, since a field guide wasn't part of his go-kit. One way or another, I had this feeling 45 wasn't going to make it out of this video alive. No armor pads, and thin skin (Ryan)....
He may pull through, but had he worn the Kevlar riding jacket by.....

This brings back my nightmare of when I did a moto trip from San Francisco to Portland for a bachelor's weekend. I didn't know what the plan for the day was and there wasn't enough room in the car so I took my bike to breakfast. After that I followed the guys to a really cool looking waterfall, the 620ft Multnomah Falls, to be exact. They parked and when I pulled up to them I asked whats wrong and the answer I got was: "we're hiking up to the top".
I was in sportbike gear, in particular my boots were, and still are, a pair of Sidi speedrides, a cut down version of the Mag 1, a full racing boot. It was not a fun time trying to hike up a constant incline with that metal slider hanging over the front edge of the boot. Solid boot, sidi sells soles so you can resole them if you need, but they were not meant for impromtu hikes.
Get/wear the right gear for the task at hand folks.
Beer came out of my nose, thanks to the Bitwell exfil-7, when you were describing the haunted house hinges effect from your Tech 7's.

And I was seriously skeptical when the channel started to have more characters/hosts. But seriously you seriously add so much to the content. The channel wouldn't be the same without you anymore. So a sincere thank you for what you do #45. Thank you for making THE BEST motorcycle content even better. We love you.

He's still learning from the best, that's why Ryan had to finalise the end of the video 😉🤣
I'd really love an episode covering riding gear tropical heat. Say SE Texas in August, with temps and humidity both in the 90's.
Yes! Or Baja summer heat, you will feel the air burning thru your helmet and it's worse with the open shield! Please F9! Make this happen!
I've often thought of doing longer multi day camping hikes via motorcycle. But I worry about the motorcycle getting stolen while I am gone for a few days (or just people messing with it, knocking it over, etc).

So, is there so much stealing in the US, or have you just become so paranoid that you don't trust anyone anymore? You hit the nail on the head with the description of the footwear lasting hours and miles, no more than single digits on both accounts though. From personal experiences; the stitching on the tpu toe and heel WILL fail faster than you can pay off the cc bill and the delaminating of the outsole at the heel will begin during the removal of the product from the box if you are not careful. Not acceptable for the cost.
I had the same experience. I want to try revits pioneers next they seem like a good competitor and I've had luck with revit footwear...
Same here...my Rev'it Royals are 9yrs old and have been brilliant...from riding round the UK and Ireland to trekking through the jungles of Costa Rica and Nicaragua. And worn at weddings and funerals!!@adventurecraft482
Agreed, had mine for a couple years and those panels just kinda fell apart. Still an effective hiking/riding shoe, but for the price I expect much better
Good to know, been eyeballing those. Thanks for the heads up!
Like I said above, these look like a relabeled Redwing Tradesman boot with some missing features. Redwing is cheaper AND you get to try it on in an actual store with different sizes. Mine has lasted 2 years on the bikes.
Motorcycle gear is outrageously expensive! I appreciate the practical durability of alternative brands. Fallraven (spelling?) is on its own a pricey questionable outdoor brand but still cheaper than Klim!!
I LIKE IT!!!
Thx 45 and speedy recovery
Fjallraven. Good, but not exactly cheap. You definitely want to actually use it's features rather than just stroll around town if your're going to pay that much.
Those "alternative" brands like Klim, Icon, Joe Rocket are squid gear that fit and look like crap and provide questionable protection.
One of the best vids in a while, for me. I need new gear.
#45 will be missed.😢 Thank goodness for clones.
Nah. now I'll have to get used to watching #46, its won't be the same
@@seanryan6410 he was a damn good clone. Hope the next one isn't like 44.
The haunted house hinge boots while hiking. I've been down that road. Those boots are a good trade off while hiking is probably going to happen
As the owner of some outlanders I 100% recommended them as go too riding shoes.
How did you keep yours from falling apart? Mine disintegrated in less than 2 years. Maybe they worked the kinks out?
@@adventurecraft482 Mine started falling apart at the seams after three months.
Is Ryan still using armor in his riding gear? I'm pretty curious now.
No, he goes commando now
He mostly uses an airbag instead and skips the shoulder and elbow pads at least.
"He slipped and skinned both his knees" I feel that might be a reference!
Riding gear _is_ armor 😅 with or without shock absorbers or armacor pads 🤓
@@shardlake might just be #45's way of saying he has a differing opinion to Ryan about armour. Either way it made me laugh
Ryan: "Not bad for a pointy-eared elvish princeling. I myself am sitting pretty on 45." 🏹
The Gaerne Balance trials boots Ryan has mentioned a couple times recently are plenty comfy for walking and hiking in. I could hike in mine all day.
Same with Forma Boulder boots.
But without waterproofness, Is the only bad side.
WAIT A MINUTE. That Klim boot is a Redwing Tradesman boot! I've been wearing one for two years on my bikes and I recognized it immediately. It's got the exact same patented Redwing BOA tightening system. It's missing the nice "second tongue" at the back for sliding the boot on.
Yep.
I don't know if they added ankle plates inside the leather cuff to make it a riding boot or just relabelled it.
I don't think the Redwings have the armor inserts though.
I’m amazed just how consistent fortnine’s quality is even with all the new faces. Love to see it
"Ootlander GTX boots." I see what you did there. 😄
They seem like the perfect trousers for teabagging your mate after he's had a crash.
Boa laces are fully serviceable and replaceable, the kits are only like $30 and come with tools. I do replacements on fancy cycling shoes all the time
He might've gotten his old boas snagged if the duals were on the side of the boot instead of placed centrally like in the Klims.
That's how it was for my MTB shoes.
True that Boas are replaceable but I must say that as a snowboarder that loves boas for their convenience I do hate their inconvenience when they fail. Riding for the rest of the day in a boot that cannot be laced up is a real pain on snowboard or on the bike. A regular setbof laces can be retied or fixed temporarily. Those boa cables don't hold knots. Duct taping my boots closed for the day is always classy.
"only" 30 bucks?
A failed boa is a passion killer
4:49 You can tell he's a clone because he's perfectly still while a mosquito is on his arm.
It's this attention to detail that you can rely on when it comes to FortNine.
Wisconsins state bird, the elusive blood pigeon.
My wetsuit is Marino lined. Was actually warmer in 45°F water than my diving partner in her dry-suit
I like everything about Klim gear, except the price. I do draw the line at their footwear and helmets though. Those are simply rebranded Chinese products with a Klim price tag. I bought a Krios helmet. Cheaply made crap. Ive already had to use Gorilla Glue on it to keep the plastic chassis inside the helmet and the plastic button for the chin strap is broken. Ive only been wearing it for 6 weeks. It's actually a Nishua Enduro helmet that costs hundreds of dollars less without the Klim branding. I have no reason to expect any more from their footwear.
How bout a tour n camp next?

I love the genius ways you insert puns or next part of the video!
Damn, that last lil bit with Ryan and 45 was a great reenactment of Yammi/Spite.
This channel has some of the best production quality, and honest information I have seen on UA-cam. You guys come by your sub count honestly. Keep up the good work
Ryan must be rolling over in his studio over those Gortex boots.
A couple of years ago my daughter wore her icon stormhawk boots on a climb up Quandry Peak here in CO. She was the only one in our out of shape group that didn't get blisters.
Fantastic video and right on time for me. Thanks guys! I'm waiting for my outlanders to show up today and can't wait to try them on. 45 for life!
I am a biker-hiker. I lock my helmet and motorcycle suit with bicycle locks. Sometimes i wear my hiking boots, and sometimes my enduro boots on which i have made a hole mid-high and lock them also with bicycle locks.
Not really suited for the biking or hiking I do; if I'm out in the middle of nowhere, I likely spent a few hours of riding at speed on tarmac roads to get there, and need proper riding protection to do so.
The bag is a neat idea, but I have an army surplus respirator bag that does the same thing, but comes with a shoulder strap. A standard seatbelt pad helps cushion the strap (kiddie ones are cheapest, and you get a choice of cutesy designs), and it's got a couple of pouches on it for camera and water bottle. And a third pouch sits on my belt for my phone, so I can wear headphones while I hike.
Those boots are £320, though! I'll stick to dragging my workboots along with me; they're not suitable at all for biking, even before I added aramid fibre laces to replace the initial laces they destroyed in less than a month. They're still metal-free composite toecap, but they only cost £80 shipped and have full ISO footwear protection, as well as anti-static and ankle support in case someone rams a trolley into my ankle from behind. ISO standard means you can drop 600kg of palletised goods on your toecap without any issue beyond scuffing the plastic a bit, other than feeling like an idiot for trapping your own foot under a pallet.
Thanks dudes, I was about to go shopping for new gear this year and this list is a godsend.
I also wear the Utlander. Greetings from Germany.
How nice is waking up on a sunday, brewing a cup of coffee and seeing a video made JUST for me.
Took my 625 on a long trip to a national park just with the gear I had and god damn did I get it wrong.
It was a hot summer and I had army boots with a heavy ass motorcycle jacket, as I could not fit a whole another outfit with me... It was not fun and I ended up sending half my stuff back home and continuing the trip as just a riding trip.
Thanks fellas, great content as always.
I use a gun lock cable for a helmet lock...
Great idea!
Me too. Keep one in every bike.
Love your approach on this topic. I ride to fishing spots and to hike with my buddies quite often. The difference is that I change to my fjällräven pants out in the Woods and jump in to a pair of jogging shoes with sealskinz socks. The best fishing spots are often found after good dirt/fire road riding is my experience.
Thank you for fine material ass allways! //Totte of Sweden (like fjällräven)
My heart dropped when #45 called out Ryan for the armor video, I knew at that moment that he was done for :(
Just love this channel from bottom of my heart
Osprey daylite 60L duffel backpack isn’t a bad option. Outdoor research has carry out duffel backpack and patagonia has the black hole. No support straps though for chest. If you go ultra light or backpacking gear you can fit a ton of stuff in one.

A short cable lock for a bicycle is a better choice over the Hiplok to secure a helmet or other gear.

Thank you for this.
I never realized how good of a shape 45 is in. Cheers, mate!
One of my favorites. 45 is the best ❤
Have these exact boots and jacket, I agree! The boots are amazing, super lightweight and comfortable. The jacket is also good, arm vents work great but when they're zipped up they create a stress point in the zipper (like on jeans at the crotch) near the bend of the elbow and can be annoying. I'm in the SE United States so the jacket quickly becomes too much to wear immediately getting off the bike or stopping for too long but wears nicely at highway speeds.
On the topic of them being back in stock, the F9 neck gaiter has been a game changer foe me this winter
#45 had more than his helmet stolen in those woods…
The end was wonderful!
i gotta say, you've leveled up dude. Well done
those mosquitoes are gigantic, damn
Everything is bigger in Texas EXCEPT mosquitoes. The further north you go, the bigger and more numerous they become. In Alaska, the natives tell stories of swarms that block the sun made up of bugs that carry off children.
I've had those Klim outlanders for about a year now, they're very comfortable, no issues with the BOA system, but it's my first pair with BOA.
I own the boots, and they are the most comfortable trail, ride boot I have ever owned.
Hello 46!
Also, BOA is awesome, I pick out redwings with it.
Another Masterpiece for the FNCU, you love to see it
Love this - I love riding to
a mini hike in the bush!
Gotta say though man those ootlanders have no ankle protection for riding to the hike, so no thanks. Either hard luggage you can get the boots in or a backpack that will fit the boots is my go to. Look at douche bags from scandi land for something designer, or any back pack designed to carry snow boots. For tougher hikes, hard luggage is better.
Okay Canadian Alex from Car Throttle
Those boots disintegrated after less 2 years of hiking for me and Klim told me "regular wear and tear" as the sole delaminated....
Same with my Sidi Adventures. Seems like moto-gear is a one-year-and-chuck-it industry, if you ride beyond a weekend warrior schedule.

I've found that my Merlin Drax boots are surprisingly comfortable for hiking. In fact, they're the most comfortable boots I own! I have 2 pair of dedicated hikers and 3 pair of hunting boots.
Fabulous video!
I recently discovered waders make pretty nice riding pants and wading boots are nearly as good as my riding boots. Add a back pack for back protection and to carry my rod, net, chest pack , wading staff and I’m pretty much outfitted to ride to remote fishing!
I have those boots and they are indeed great for on the bike, and hiking.
Thanks for the video
Love the Wolverine hand at the end, kudo’s for adding reality.
Got to say that despite having seen some pretty convincing rebuttals to Ryan's "armour out" video, it's good to see FortNine having some fun with the controversy 😂
I've been using a light base layer jacket made with Primaloft Gold and graphene infused nylon. Not much to it and I would have been pissed if I'd paid full price, but it's 100% effective in preventing wind-chill (tested into low 40F's) and maintaining body temp. Probably doesn't breathe as well as a merino blend (currently a fan of merino socks), but super light and packable.
Great video as always
Icon storm guards are nice boots to walk, hike, and ride in. Maybe bulkier, but so coMFORTABLE.
Hahaha the ending
