    I was going to try that new JBL IRX15/sub but, its RMS is 400. Then I saw this and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this EV and combine it with the IRX 8 tops? The pair is only $700. If I can get the EV 10 SP's for around the same price then I would.

    You should really look at the ELX 18, compared to every other 18” sub it’s tiny. I have the ekx also but I have fallen in love with the ELX 18s because I can fit two of them side by side in the back of my suv. I loaned one to a friend and he didn’t believe me that it’s was a 18 till he read the back.

      I have both the EKX-18sp and the ELX-18sp my personal experience with them are the ELX-18sp hits harder. I can swap the power and go outside and the ELX-18sp carries further than the EKX-18sp. All set to exactly the same.

    I have Qsc K10s as monitors, or back up FOH, or just DJ tops. Do you think these are better as far as volume before limiting and clarity and smoothness? I should mention I have EKX15s too and I also want to be able to have a very loud clear and smooth signal for outdoor graduation ceremonies . Thanks for your help and reviews!

    I got the ELX200-12SP sub , I got the ZLX15P , I’m thinking on buying the ELX200-10P , what would you recommend for live music bands ? The ELX200-10 or 12P to work with the ELX200-12SP subwoofer ?

    I can't decide between ELX200-12P and DXR 12 MKII. Which would you use?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  9 місяців тому +1

      I currently have both in my inventory. When I go out to personally do an event I grab the DXR12MKII. When I rent out speakers I tend to give out the EV's. I think the Yamaha's are a notch up from the ELX series. Probably closer in line to EKX even though the Yamaha is plastic.

    It would be interesting to compare the ELX200-12P with the new ZLX 12P G2. Is the ELX200-12P still better?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 місяців тому

      I have a buddy that purchased the 8-in version of the G2 ZLX series. I have had a chance to listen to it and well I think the G2 series sounds good. Sound quality has never been my main issue with the ZLX series. It has been output. They just seem to limit a little too fast. It just doesn't quite get loud enough and the new 12-in version of the ZLX G2 still has a maximum output of 127 dB whereas the 12-In version of the ElX 200 series has a maximum output of 130 dB. Those extra 3 dB seem to make a big difference. So personally, I will still be sticking with the elx series. I have received numerous complaints from rental customers in the past about the ZLX series not being loud enough and I have not received a single complaint about the elx series being loud enough.

      Yeah, the ZLX speakers actually sound great to my ears as do most EV products. The general light construction and lower sound output are apparent, however. Not that they sound bad/harsh at higher volume, but you can definitely hear compression artifacts when you drive them hard, especially without a subwoofer. Don’t get me wrong, they can get loud when you are close to them, but not if you really want to fill a room, depending on the room of course. I’ve experienced a setup in a room about 25 x 50 feet with a low false ceiling and a carpeted floor. We had one ZLX 12p in the corner playing music off a smartphone. There was definitely a lot of volume up front, but due to the “dead” nature of the room, I was easily able to talk over it in back. And that speaker was being driven HARD! No clipping light, but it definitely sounded a bit compressed. The seemingly thin plastic enclosure was vibrating enough that you couldn’t set anything on it. We learned this by resting the smartphone in the side carry handle, because our cord was too short to set the phone on the ground: It was hilarious when the music would abruptly stop and we’d hear the phone hit the floor. This happened 3 times in the hour when we were truly driving the speaker.
      Yeah, we’re young amateurs if it wasn’t obvious, but we knew the limits of the equipment.

    hi, nice review. i was looking to buy padded cover for my elx 12sp sub, only available in my area is zxa1 sub cover, do you think if zlxa1 sub padded cover will fit elx-200 12sp subwoofer? thanks

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 роки тому

      I'm not going to make any guarantees but it looks like it would. The ZXA1 sub is: 15.75" x 17.50" x 18.00". While the ELX200-12SP is: 15.63" x 17.52" x 17.99". I'd say that's pretty darn close!

    Did you run into any limiting problems? Heard EV’s can have that problem?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 роки тому

      I haven't had these speakers out at a gig personally yet to give an opinion on that. I did send one of my DJ's out to do a prom with the ELX200-12P's and a single EKX-15SP and he did say he liked them. It'll be a bit before I'll have them out to give an informed opinion on them. I will say the ZLX12P's occasionally got rental complaints that they weren't loud enough and would limit. But they are only rated at 126dB and these are rated at 130dB so I'm hoping I don't run into that problem.
      I have ran into some speakers that are tuned to have a deeper bass response and they run out of gas early and begin to limit when not using a sub. I think this tends to happen because some manufacturers don't give SPL ratings on pink noise. Instead they use like a 1000hz tone and say well at that one frequency this speaker will do 130dB but when you run pink noise or music through it you might only get 124dB. But then to get the frequency response they do a sweeping sign wave. So then the specs look like you get these amazing numbers but it's technically impossible to have that rated dB output and the frequency rating at the same time. For example my Yamaha DZR315's have a really high SPL rating and also a super low frequency response but if you don't use them with a sub and you're playing deep bass music they will run out of gas fast and go into limiting. But when you run them with a sub they get loud and sound great doing it. But if you just looked at the specs you'd think that you don't even need to buy a sub. I have heard people complain about the limiting issue with EV speakers (even on the ETX line). Hopefully I'll have more info on this in my full review of this speaker. Until then I hope this made sense and I didn't just babble out a bunch of gibberish. lol

      Yes I have the etx 15p and found the bottom can cut out at fairly high level. Sometimes use a sub for bigger events. Have a minidsp and thinking I might try setting a high pass crossover around 40 hz to see if that helps. Great sounding speaker though and get dmany compliments. Looking for smaller and lighter speakers for small parties. Thinking of Yamaha dbr15 or elx series? Thanks again for your honest help!

    How does this sound compared to the Yamaha DXR?

      So far from what I've heard they are probably one level below the DXR's. But I haven't used them enough to make a super accurate opinion.

      The cabinet is essentially the same but the ELX has better components. So it gets a little louder and sounds a little better.

    If I may? The Yamaha dbr15 is the same price as the elx200-12p so thinking it would be a better choice for small parties without needing a sub? Looking for a lightweight solution. Dbr 12 even cheaper. Any thoughts?

    Do you still use Yamaha speakers?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, I still use the StagePas 600BT as the base for my DIY DJ rental. I have no plans on selling them. I did sell my Yamaha DXS12MKII subwoofers in favor of the EV EKX-15SP. I originally was just going to upgrade to the DXS15MKII but I went with the EV to save on size and weight for rental customers. I also still have my Yamaha DZR315's and DXS18XLF subs but after I do sound for a county fair this summer I'm going to put that system up for sale. Not because I don't like it but because with COVID I've been doing some serious downsizing and I no longer have my shop or my trailer. So I'm probably going to be getting the RCF NXL24's paired with the RCF 905AS subs. I'm basically planning my setup around being able to load it into a small van as I need it to be a vehicle I can park in my condo parking lot. I also want to be able to get rid of my storage unit and just keep gear in my garage. As of right now I still plan on keeping my DXR10MKII's and DXR15MKII's because they are great speakers. I'll probably be mostly using the DXR's myself for production work as they just seem to be a little too expensive for rental customer to want to rent. That's where these new EV speakers come in.

      Any reason why you are thinking about the rcf nlx 24’s? Thought the Evox 12 was you array option?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 роки тому

      You know it's a tough one. I do plan on getting NXL24's to replace my ground stacked Yamaha system for the bigger live sound events I do (Bands & corporate events up to around 600 people). I had thought about getting rid of the EVOX 12's when I did this but as I've been using them more and more I think I'm going to keep them and basically have 3 sizes of speakers that I use for different events. Small: Bose Pro8, Medium: RCF EVOX 12, Large: RCF NXL24. But I may change my mind on the Bose if I can't find a way to get them at dealer cost (none of my current distributors are authorized to sell Bose and I like my deals since I flip gear so much). I may end up getting EVOX 8's or FBT CS1000's for a small system that is also used as extension speakers for larger gigs.

      Realistically you could probably go with my plan which is two ELX200-12P's for tops and then a single EKX-15SP for a sub. By going with a slightly higher end subwoofer than the tops you don't really need two of them for them to pair nicely with the tops. I like this setup because then I can hide the sub under my table so no one can see it. If you wanted to go with the 18" version you could as well but then you wouldn't be able to hide it under the table.
