    Dorians back, shoulders, calves and overall conditioning were unprecedented, even shocking. I remember seeing him in the 90s and had that instant gut feeling that I’d never seen a human body like that before in my life. It really was all new uncharted territory in pro Bodybuilding.

      @@FYM-FCKYOURMOTIVATION I once saw him just calmly walking through a crowd of fans who come to see him guest pose/seminar at David Lloyds in Southall, London 1996/97. They parted like Moses parting the Red Sea, he signed cards, photos etc… even in lightweight leisure clothes he was unlike anything I’ve seen before 😂 his profession ‘Bodybuilder’ doesn’t quite cut it, what comes to mind is more like body morphologist. It’s clear now that he was doing a clever and very strict HIT workout, pharma and diet routine way above what US champs were doing. Even some weeks away from Mr. O 1997 he was massive, and round faced indicating he was nowhere near shredded. You can understand how he would look on the day why he wins Mr. O and all the ordinary bodybuilders are happy to fight for 2nd place, as excellent as they are. I heard it said that his Mr O pics that you see in mags and vids have never really captured the level of detail and granite hardness, I definitely believe that.

    • @Pulsonar
      @Pulsonar 2 роки тому +10

      @joe blogs I know, Ray, Wheeler, Labrada, symmetrical, sculpted, defined, proportioned… then you see the Yates juggernaut and cannot imagine how anyone has a chance against that mass, lat spread and dry, alround granite condition. It says something when he can still win with a f*cked up bicep, but in all honesty Sonbatty deserved that 1997 win, the rest of the field had caught up by then.

      Totally agree. In my opinion, they're the best of anyone since the steroid era began. The reason: he had what used to be termed "riding britches" thighs -- meaning that (unlike the turnip- or balloon-shaped thighs of recent competitors) they were narrower at the top & wide at the bottom -- similar to Steve Reeves & John Grimek. (Robert Kennedy, in "Hardcore Bodybuilding" & "Beef It", talked about how that shape set Reeves apart from his competitors.) As with a high chest (which both Reeves & Yates had, too), it gives a "superhero" look to the physique, & is probably one of the main reasons for Yates' multiple wins.
