    Iconic year and model. Would have loved if the camera was taken to the rear of the car to hear the exhaust note. Otherwise, nicely done presentation.

    What an amazing automobile! The sound. The float. True luxury is more than merely throwing on more and more gimmicks.

    I'm curious about how a Cadillac of this vintage feels in terms of the ride quality, steering, quietness, shaking/squeaks.. do you feel connected to the car? Does it feel heavy and solid or like it's flexing and wallowing down the road??

    I can't remember but if you had one of these old engines didn't you have to add lead into the gas tank . They didn't have unleaded gas in 49?

    • @unclefester6501
      @unclefester6501 Рік тому +3

      Old cars run fine on unleaded. The issue is lubrication of the valves. They will wear into the valve seat on the head unless you have hardened seats put in. But it would take a lot of miles and these are not driven that much. Alcohol in the gasoline (thanks Iowa) is much more destructive on gaskets and metals in the fuel system not made for modern gas.

      You can buy a lead substitute or you can add a little marvel mystery oil or seafoam to your gas and it will give you the lubrication that lead used to provide. Another thing to watch for is to buy an engine oil with zinc to protect your cam- modern oils don't have enough, and, as a previous commenter noted, to avoid e10 gas if you store your car long periods, as the ethanol will gum up your carb and gas tank and can cause damage to old seals ( modern gaskets are made to resist e10 damage) Add a fuel stabilizer if you plan to use regular E10 gas, or find ethanol free fuel.
