I recently flew "The Room" from SFO-NRT, as part of a YVR-BKK itinerary that I managed to snag for 75,000 AP, with all legs in business class (no mixed cabin!). It was a steal on short notice that I picked out with help from tools linked on the POT site and for me it enabled an important, life-changing 2 week trip to SE Asia. Also, "The Room" was my first ever intercontinental business class, and highly memorable, so I'm delighted to see you've posted this video just as I returned from my trip!
That’s awesome to here. Curious.. Which days were you able to snag this for? I’ve been having such a hard time finding a similar leg for under 243k each way..
As the LAX route to Narita (which has full service) is going to change aircraft to 789 from the end of October, here are some routes that has full business class service with THE Room seats (all from October 28th) NH109/110 HND-JFK NH111/112 HND-ORD NH11/12 NRT-ORD NH211/212 HND-LHR NH105/106 HND-LAX
Flew The Room from HND to LAX couple weeks ago (decided to try it after seeing your review), fist time in business and really enjoyed it (slept a good 7-8 hours). Here are a few things I noticed that are worth mentioning: Lounge can be crowded and shower wait time might take up to 3-4 hours. If you have one of the backward seats, you might feel a strong pull during takeoff. There is no storage for larger items (or I missed it), I can't find storage for my bottle water so I left it on the side table and it flew off during landing. There is no dinner/full meal service since the flight departed at 10:55PM (NH106). The only meal service is breakfast (can always order from the snack/light meal menu though).
So they actually did it. I worked as an early mechanical designer for this seat and it was very ambitious. I see they reduced some options but it is still a nice looking seat and cabin
I just looked up LAX to NRT through Air Canada. Yes! 75K points. Seems to be a reassuring theme though. As with Lufthansa to Europe, and booking through United. Must be relatively short notice. In advance, up to 300 to 400K points
Interesting. Butter and corn in Ramen. That would indicate a Sapporo style or at least Northern Japan style of Ramen. It looks great and the whole trip looked amazing.
Great decision. I always wanted to have both the Japanese and the International meals on ANA business class flight from Washington, D.C. to Narita but has always chickened out from asking every year prior to the Pandemic. I am going to do it this time when we travel this winter.
Happen to have the flight #'s for the planes that feature "the room" from LAX to Tokyo? I'm seeing them from SFO or New York and Chicago, but not LAX. Thanks!
The organization and quality of your review videos are really well done! You can totally see the difference between a few years ago. Thanks for the review!
That's really excellent and ANA is way to amazing. That's a really wonderful vlog and I like the point when you review about the meals. There is so much for me to learn from this vlog. On the side note. I was really mesmerised with your intro map. It's really beautiful. Just wonder how did you do that? With what app are you using? :)
Dope video man. I miss Japan so much. I just got the Amex delta platinum and venture card, planning to use my miles and points to go back to Japan next year
I am trying to book a flight to Singapore from Lax via Haneda in the Room for Christmas. However I do not see the 777 scheduled from LAX to Haneda anymore.
Was that an HDMI port next to the Vanity Mirror!? I can plug in my nintendo switch and play on that humongous display. And looks like there’s even room for 2
very jealous! we're going back to canada from taipei in a couple weeks so japan will have to wait till later in the year, but definitely priority 1 now
I wish more ppl talked about how long it took them to rack up the points and what they did to do so. I think we all understand now that you CAN use points if you have enough, but most ppl don't have enough to benefit from these point deals.
Informative reviews. Question: do we still need to wear a mask inside the plane during the flight? I'm heading back and was wondering if we have to in business class. Thanks.
Is there any way to transfer points, other than Bonvoy, to ANA mileage club in Canada? I know US MR points transfer 1:1, but I cant seem to find a way in Canada to transfer.
Hey Ricky. Just curious, how far in advance did you book this flight? Or was this available within a few weeks before your departure? It seems that ANA releases award seats on Aeroplan about 2-3 weeks before departure. Please let me know!
I’m sure it’s much easier to find availability as soon as ANA releases it, but don’t give up hope if booking last minute! I’ve found that ANA will release business class seats 1-3 weeks out as well. I’ve flown LAX-NRT ANA “the room” on two occasions (most recently 3 weeks ago) and booked my trip within 2 weeks both times. Also, both times I found availability for 2 persons. Good luck!
Does ANA release different seats for different partner? I saw a seat same day same flight in business ANA but Aeroplan shows 1 seat left while ANA website still showing plenty. Can I call VA and get one seat on hold and check if I can book another seat with AC just to be sure?
Funny thing is I love all white JAL livery over ANA. I always thought that ANA livery looked like a cargo lol. But then ANA and JAL trade blows with JAL in luxury
It's my first time trying to book anything business class with points. When I go on the ANA site its only giving me "Waitlisted" options for December.. Am I out of luck? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Business class is always first to go. If you’re flexible with your dates, you may have better luck getting business class in a lower seasonality. Check periodically for availability or ask an agent about waitlisting for your desired dates of travel.
Great review Ricky! I am planning to fly on this exact route next year and was wondering if I should book directly with ANA or through partners like virgin or aeroplan. Thanks!
Hi Ricky, I'm a very huge fan of your videos! I am wondering though, since I'm flying The Room very soon too, is it weird to fly backwards? Or is there actually no difference with a forward facing seat? Thanks man, keep up the good work!!
btw I can only see LAX flights to NRT/HND that land in the afternoon from UA, UA32, UA 39, are those ANA planes that are just tickted under UA? can you let us know which NH flight you were on?
He was on NH5, to Tokyo Narita. Departs LAX at 12:45 in the afternoon and lands at Narita at 16:30. This route is going to be operated by the 787-9 from 28th of October due to Haneda-Chicago and Narita-Chicago being operated by "THE Room" seats which means all aircraft which has these seats will be based at Haneda.
I am planning a trip from LAX -> NRT in 2023. I do not see any first class flight to Japan out of LAX. Do you think they'll return in the future? I only see Business class. I have enough points for first class and I'd rather fly out of LAX than ORD. Thanks!
You can, but not using mileage/points. If you purchase with a credit card/cash, you can do a one way but check with your destination country if they’ll allow entry without an onward/return ticket.
my family absolutely loved the room by ana. It's unfortunate that this type of seating is limited based on the aircraft. I believe there wont be any 777s flying between LAX and Japan anytime during the summer of 2023 :(
Lucky you. I'm glad your trip worked out, as for us We booked our flights (6 in total) in July to Okinawa via LAX for December. Our plans were to visit our family in Okinawa who have been stationed there for 3 years now with now contact with family. Yesterday ANA statically canceled our flight from LAX to Tokyo. But fear not as they are willing to book us on another flight LAX to Tokyo about 40 minutes later from the original flight but at twice the price. We have been on the phone with ANA for the past two days and they refuse to work with us. If you are wondering here is the flight info. Los Angeles 12:45 PM Tokyo 5:40 PM ANA 7543 Classy move ANA Any advice welcome
That canceled flight was a United flight, codeshared with ANA. If you didn’t book through ANA directly, they can’t assist. A refusal isn’t this same as inability.
As a chef I can tell you that I always avoid grilled meat/fish dish on flights because they loose all the juice during cooking- chilling - reheating process. On the other hand, I recommend slow cooked dishes like meat stew or slow cooked fish same one like you had on this flight.
A really fantastic video! Great pictures, informative narrative..but i dont quite share your enthusiasm for the product. And this is because i am a big window looker. Sure, this cabin looks pretty wide. But it gives you merely one (!!!) window. So the cabin for me looks way too dark and claustrophobic..not really my case. The QR Q Suite is much brighter in comparison. And food? I agree..on japanese airlines one should stick to the japanese menues. Unfortunately again, it just is not my taste..and the european menue looked not really exciting, on the other hand (just watch the international menues on QR). It seems that japanese carriers dont really excel in non japanese food. So, although it looks like a great product: it always depends on personal preferences ..and it does not really correspond to mine. Fair enough? Of course i will continue to like your videos:) Oh, last not least: the ticket price. Sure, people in the US can fly cheaply with all those sign up bonuses..which we dont have in Europe. Instead, we happily subsidize these nice discounts with our more expensive airfares hehe..dont hate me now:)
Row 5 (which I had the privilege of being able to snag when I flew on The Room about 2 weeks ago) does actually have 2 windows instead of 1 if you can get the seat.
Finally! Someone who makes a comprehensive review of the meals on ANA. Thank you and well done! Most reviewers have been poor at this.
Cheers

You connected in San Francisco for this flight right?? Because LAX doesn't service nonstop to Japan w the "the room" config

i think they have a price list. 90k -95k points roundtrip for east and west coast
Great review as always!🎉
Thanks so much!
Hi ! Thank you for the detailed video, may I know what the flight nr this is ?
The room is the best

You're supposed to walk over to the united terminal and use the polaris lounge before your flight
Nice review! Btw what lens were you using on your A7C?

Can’t wait to see Ricky’s honeymoon 😉 and how he’s going to top that from all the previous trips 😂

Can’t find Lax->Nrt direct ANA biz class from AC website at all. Looks like this deal is not available now?
Wish the pricing or miles were true! Its about 9k or 900k miles round trip business class *2 seats right now
superior business class love it
Thanks for the dopamine :D

They weren't too strict about it
