I’ve never seen this version of Han-shoots-first before. I love how it stays fixed on a close-up of Han as he shoots Greedo. He barely flinches, just blinks and his hair blows slightly as you see the flash and bang. Then cut to Greedo sizzling face down on the table. I actually like this better than Greedo’s death in the original film(s).
@@quackula9190 Reading is apparently not your strong suit as the video description CLEARLY states that there is B-roll footage in here that didn't make it into the final film. The original 1977 cut has no line from Han referencing another killing in the cantina, and the footage of Chewie leaving as Han tells him to get back to the ship is one long continuous cut rather than cutting to Obi-Wan and Luke before coming back to Han. By all means, bust out your VCR and check. You're wrong on this, and if you try to claim otherwise after the fact you'll also be full of shit at that point.
It actually transmits the idea that Han doesn't really care. Greedo's death is so unimportant to him (and to us) that we don't even look at it. Also, between us not seeing it and the "sorry about the mess" it feels like the shot was really brutal.
What was even sillier is that following the 'Greedo shot first' outcry, Lucas changed it to 'Han and Greedo shoot simultaneously' in subsequent editions. As if that was going to satisfy anyone.
It gives off more of a "yeah, I don't give a damn what you have to say, bye bitch" vibe than the final version. The final version kind of feels more smug and sarcastic, like "ooh, you think you're so tough, but I'm tougher"
Because since 1997 when the special editions came out and it was changed to Greedo shooting first the entire Star Wars fandom hated it including me so the phrase "Han shot first " was born

Anyone notice when Han says "I don't think they'd like another killing in here" Greedo looks over to where Ponda Baba got his arm chopped off? (But if you wanna get technical Ponda Baba more than likely would've survived the encounter as a lightsaber would've fully cauterized the wound)
In this cut obi-wan decapitates him so he would look where ponda babas head got chopedp off. (so if we want to get technicaly technical ponda baba more than likley would've died in the encounter as a lightsaber would've fully beheaded his body)
Greedo didn't have to fire first. He told Han he was going to shoot him. He had no intention of just finding out where the money was for Jabba. He told him he was going to kill him there in the Cantina or in public. When I first saw the movie when I was 7 I couldn't tell who was shooting or what was going on.
That's why I don't get the outrage, the scene is essentially exactly the same regardless of if Greedo shoots or not. You can say it's unnecessary but people will claim it ruins Han's character when nothing actually changes about the interaction.
Nice! This would be an awesome source for fan edits if colorizing it was somehow possible. Using AI, perhaps? The shot of Han firing the blaster is *chef's kiss*.
the subtleties I didn't catch the original time around. Han crosses his leg to block greedo's view of Han's right hand and blaster. Then he reaches up and to the left to fiddle with the wall to distract greedo's attention away from his movements. The BOOM! Greedo flambe'! The was this scene goes makes it easier to follow.
This would be with Greedo's original intended dialogue before they cut the Jabba scene from the original release, right? Hence why some of Greedo's dialogue got replaced with dialogue from the Jabba scene.
The last time I saw this footage, someone said what a dill-hole Chewie was to leave Han when Greedo's blaster is pointed at him. Couldn't he have seen/heard what was going on? Glad they fixed it with an insert scene so it looked like Greedo showed up later.
Proves one thing, that Lucas is a little liar. One, that Greedo was always supposed to shoot first. Two, that Star Wars was always meant for little children. Same with the fried skeletons of Owen and Beru. Why doesn't he just admit that after ESB he decided to sell more toys to the tiny tots; that and they're easier to make movies for?
Yeah, he also couldn't have Ben say, "I lied." Instead he waffles on about "a certain point of view." Maybe that's Lucas's feelings. So from a certain point of view it is a kid's movie, and if a happenstance is good then it was always in the plan.
Sparks fly everywhere with blasters and they're bright. In a small space, it's probably smart. Lasers in real damage eyes so I imagine lasers of death are probably *real* bright.

George Lucas is lying. The original was that He save his life by shooting Greedo. Greedo never got a shot off. Whatever the intent was it never made it to the original cut.

Is it weird that I prefer seeing Han there as he fires the gun rather than the impact of the laser hitting Greedo?
I totally agree with you there, lol. Makes it way more obvious that Han was the only one to fire off a shot.
He looks so badass!!
Probably cuz the actual shot of Greedo getting fried is actually a dummy of Greedo.

Not at all. Its way more compelling from a character standpoint. And we get to see Greedo's fate in the next shot.

The fact that George tried to cover up Han shot first as "it was never in the script" makes me sad
