Why that comparison mate? Africa to India? A country to the continent?
Is the colonial experience worth a comparison to you?
All the atrocities faced by the Indians during the British Rule is not a matter of comparison or something to be laughed about.
Hopefully you’ll see that from being a world power for hundreds of years India went on to became a Third world country which was a direct impact of the British empire in India.

The unmaking was unsuccessful.. Partly.. The material wealth that was stolen was only half the story. The real damage was psychological. Everything British was made up to be something you aspire for, everything native was looked upon as backward or primitive. This mindset pervades much of us Indians even now. Speaking English is cool as compared to the native languages. Traditional attire of Indians is something that you wear on special occasions, when they suit the Indian climate very well. Instead you see people wearing shirts and trousers on a hot day just because it is deemed formal! There are many more examples of how British unmade India but the revival is happening.

Also the obsession with white skin is because of the British..after 200 years of oppression, the improverished people came to see whites as superior "Gora Saab"- internalized that.

The problem didn't start there... Iranian / Persian King of Sassanid Empire went to India for help. But North and South kings of India were fighting within each other. So, he fled to China for help and unfortunately was killed before he reached Zoroastrian Iran. Iran was highly developed and technologically advancing civilization too. If Pagan Arabs resisted forceful conversion of Muhammad to Islam, then Iran would've been a cushion for India from softer external threats and Britain would've been in it's own place. Mughals and Muslim invaders not only tortured Indians, but also opened doors for British to torture Indians...

I dont think revival is happening. Whats happening is Indians being super insecure about their lost identity, therefore many Indians r overcompensating it by ultra-nationalism and whining about our glorious past. By doing this, India is just stuck as the nation that only looks at past instead of future.
Internet comments is filled by zealous indians chest thumping about indian culture, history and religion WHILE seeking validation from the west.
We hv reached a point where people r making up false history to make themselves appear better than others

Who said that ? lol colonialism was atrocious. And whether we are Christian, Hindu or Muslim, our blood boils when you hear things like this. But that doesn’t mean we want to talk about it all the time. Hate, should be left in the past but we should learn from history. We need to build our country up instead of whining. The descendants of the British today shouldn’t be blamed for their ancestors. However, this era is not something to forget. And when we make it big again, we can be proud of how we rose like a phoenix.

East India Company (not tea, back only China produced tea) was a chartered company formed by Queen Elizabeth the first and was the corporate representation of British interest in Asia. Members of Parliament, Prime minister, and the Royal family members too were shareholders of the Company. EIC lobbied the govt to have their own army and navy.
Similarly there was Dutch East India Company, company of france, company of Scotland etc.

Luckily our politicians of that time were patriotic which resulted in mostly united India except Muslims leader jinhna who found Pakistan dismissed the idea of united India

The son is getting caught up with the definition. The term ‘unmade’ can be on different levels. Mild to severe. Yes, India still has flicker of fire in her but compared to her former glory, it would be naive to say that she wasn’t crippled. How she was known back then vs how she is known now, explains itself. She was indeed unmade.

Britain created the unmaking of the Indian economy, but could not destroy our cultural ideals. That is why Britain still has this hang-up against India. You just have to watch the BBC, when they report about about India, they go to the poorest part of the city to report, but not the new cities, air-conditioned metros, and underground systems.
