I had to watch this movie to write an essay for my psychology class (chose it from a list). I felt like it was okay but there was just. Something about it. That made me feel frustrated. Other than the more obvious problems like her being denied her sex change. I wasn't sure what it was, and that's been preventing me from getting my essay done... so I looked up reviews and found this one (great btw) and you just said it outright... Bree is SO unlikeable. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt about why she lied for so long and how weird and strict she was, I wanted to like her and root for her so bad, but I think I was giving the writing too much credit... I'm exhausted from the mental gymnastics i went through trying to tell myself this movie was better than it is. And, yeah, the "Oedipus" scene, WHY. Why why why. NO!!!!! I couldn't even look at the screen when that was happening. Ugh. Not to mention her wanting to dump Toby off somewhere ASAP just so she could get her surgery... I wasn't sure how to feel about that. Like, I don't really blame her honestly, having been essentially forced into that situation, I can't even imagine how stressful that would be, but MAN was it not doing her character any favors in terms of likeability. It just made her look like an asshole!!! 😭😭😭
Thanks for the review! I watched this movie a while back and really enjoyed it. However, not being a trans person, I felt unfit to judge its representation. So, getting a Trans perspective on it was something I was looking for. Don't know if you are checking comments but would you say this is a good movie to recommend to Trans people? or something that is best left in the past as new movies and shows start to include rep. Cool review. I was wondering if this movie would be worth my time. Trans representation has come a long way since 2005 and I didn't know if this movie would still be watchable or total cringe. I'll have to check it out now.

I remember i watched this movie as a kid and i kinda related to it, just finding now at 22 that i'm an egg lol
